How To: Post an RP!

So I realize a lot of us haven't ever done any type of RP, much
less in a forum environment. Here's what you need to know!
When it comes to posting an RP, there's a lot of crucial things
that you need to keep in mind while writing.
1) Detail is key!
Don't just write
--- Quote ---
> Bob is beautiful.
--- End Quote ---
Why is Bob beautiful? What features does he have that make him
beautiful? I'm sure this goes without saying but none of us can
read minds. If you want Bob to go to the grocery store and buy
ice cream for his mom, say so. Don't just all the sudden have
Bob at his mom's house eating ice cream with her. It makes no
sense, and is very confusing.
2) I speak English. Do you speak English?
For God's sake, use proper English.

Is not a post. Hell, that's not even a sentence. People are
gonna be pretty upset if you talk like this.
3) Be creative!
Always think of new things for your character to do, and new
ways for them to do them. Don't just go along with whatever
someone else is saying, you're your own person! Act like it.
4) Be open to other people's ideas.
When you post, try and leave it open for someone else to come in
and add on. If you want to write a story about your character,
that's great. But go do it somewhere else. This is a group
effort, not a place for you to write a novel.
5) Perhaps the most important thing of all: Your character is
YOU!
I don't mean that your character is literally you, for all I
care, you could be playing as some crazy space lizard with a
monkey tale from planet Gargozo in the Linguini nebula. But
since you're playing him/her/it, you decide there thoughts,
feelings, actions, and words. Don't just say

> "No." Bob shouted.
--- End Quote ---
Is bob angry? Why? What's going on that made him shout? What is
Bob thinking, feeling, etc. We need to know.
So that's all you need to know really.

Here's a sample post:

> Ather’delin grabbed Leon by her waist and hoisted her over his
shoulder. “No time to rest, let's go.” He said, sounding rather
cheerful as he took off into the forest, Sven close behind.
> “We aren’t going to try and fight?” Sven asked Ather’delin,
surprised.
> “There’s only one thing I know with the power to summon two
Hellhounds. That’s a dragon. And whatever dragon is back there
isn’t one we want to tangle with, that’s for sure. We have to
move, we don’t have a choice.”
> As Leona bounced up and down on Ather’delin’s shoulder, she
was planning their escape.
> “Ather’delin, can I use some of your mana to make a shield
around us?” She asked.
> Just as she spoke, a fireball hurtled past them. It struck the
ground, leaving a crater the size of a oxcart and sending chunks
of earth flying in every direction. Ather’delin nodded, and Sven
moved closer to them. Leona pressed the palm of her hand into
Ather’delin’s back and siphoned some of his mana into the shield
that she was summoning around them. The next fireball would have
hit them directly, but the shield stopped it dead in its tracks.
> “Ather’delin, I’m pretty sure thats a cliff ahead!” Sven
yelled over the roar of the flames. Ather’delin didn’t waver and
kept running towards the cliff, Sven hot on his tail and Leona
slung over his shoulder.
> “Grab onto me.” He said calmly.
> “What?” Sven asked.
> “Grab onto me!” He shouted and Sven complied. He grabbed onto
his shoulder with his right hand and held on tight as
Ather’delin ran right off the cliff. Sven and Leona screamed as
they hurtled towards the earth, but then Ather’delin started to
change. His body rippled and grew longer, his skin became red
and wings sprouted out of his back. All of the sudden they were
soaring through the air and Sven let out a sigh of relief that
was short lived as a second dragon burst out of the woods and
rocketed towards them.

You're probably thinking "Woah, that was long and complicated."
It doesn't have to be. A post could be one sentence, or 5 pages.
It depends on how fast the story is moving, and what's going on.
If you're having a conversation with someone, you're probably
not going to be posting a huge thing, since both people need to
participate.

Another thing, if you're stuck, (as I was in that example post
that he used) let someone know and odds are they can move events
along until you can figure out what you're going to do next.
