How Do You Organize Your Files?

This is how I organize mine. Right now everything is on my
desktop because I am waiting until Black Friday to buy an
external hard drive, because if you download a lot of kits, you
definitely need an external hard drive!!!
First of all, here are the folders on my desktop:

All my digi-scrapping stuff run along the top so I can see them
easiest.
They include:
The MMS Program Shortcut
"1- Digi-Scrapping Stuff" (I show what is in this folder later
but it is basically allll my kits and stuff)
"2- Scrap Me!" A folder that I upload all my of pictures to from
my camera. That way they are there for easy finding when I am
browsing from MMS. It is easy to upload to, also. Once I scrap
them, I move them to their permanent home in a monthly folder,
i.e. "October 2010"
"3- Shortcut to MMS files" - I made a shortcut to the MMS files
so that I can easily add to the MMS files when I download
something or easily organize them when I want, too. Also, having
a shortcut on the desktop makes it easy to find the files when
in MMS if you ever need to.
"JPEGs" - All my album pages that I have saved as Jpegs. They
are organized in files in there, too.
Photoshop Program
"Scrapping Inspiration" - sometimes when I see an awesome LO, I
save it here to scraplift or use as inspiration.
"Photoshop Stuff" - stuff that I have downloaded for photoshop,
etc.
"Fave Pics to Scrap" - I copy pictures to here that are my
absolute favorite and then I scrap them differently or in a more
special way in each of my kids' special album that is just them.
Yes I end up scrapping the same picture twice but I can't
resist! I have to have a family album and I have to have a
special just for each of them album! :)
Some of those folders are numbered so they are easy to find
while browsing in MMS.
Here is the "Digi-Scrapping Stuff" folder

I have 2 kits folders, one for favorite kits and one for the
rest. The favorite kits I use more so it is easy to find them in
their own folder.
I have a folder for all of the MMS files that I have downloaded
in case I need to reinstall them.
Here is the "kits" folder

I keep each one in their own folder. Then inside each folder are
all the embellishments and there are separate folders for papers
and alphas.
Lastly, here is the embellishments folder and it is where I keep
all the things that don't have their own kit, etc.

Hope that is helpful to anyone! It took me a long time to figure
out a system that works for me! What does everyone else do?

Wow Katie, you are SUPER organized! I have everything on my EHD.
I sort my kits into groups of Websites.
Example, a list of my folders looks like this:
GOTTA PIXEL-each kit gets its own folder INSIDE this folder
MY MEMORIES SUITE-each kit gets its own folder INSIDE this
folder
SCRAP ORCHARD-each kit gets its own folder INSIDE this folder
etc, etc.

I LOVE the scrapping inspiration idea.....Katie, I have my
files set up like yours...except next to the kit name I put the
site for example: Boys Will Be Boys Scrap Orchard.

That is a good idea to put the name of the store next to the
kit. I didn't think that mattered at first but now I think it is
good to know. Most of my kits are freebies so the ones I have
paid for, I remember where I got them so I will go back and add
that info!

Since I keep most of my stuff on MMS it is divided into Papers
and Embellishments. I have broken my embellishments into a
folders similar to folders as Katie, with the addition of a
designers folder, where I keep my designer kits divided by
designer and then kit. Occasionally I will separate by stores,
if I would recognize the store before the designer.
