Ultimate Fighter

Anyone bother with it? I started watching it 4 years ago..and
like it. Some decent fighters have come that route into the big
leagues..just saw a promo ad for the new season on FX Network.
Supposed to be filmed live? Thats pretty nuts..and good to see
Dana not allowing it to get stale by mixing it up. I'm sure it
was a tie-in for the contract the UFC signed recently for UFC
main events on free cable and it works for me. Especially live..

Starts the week after next. I like Faber, but seems distracted
and his ability to stay healthy is always a concern

Watched this last night and came away liking the live
format..though the 'commentary' during the fight (or lack of)
was kind of strange. Dana White, Cruz and Faber sitting cage
side, whispering (foir the first few fights) was weird, but once
they opened up, you got to hear some candid assessments from
White on a few of the fighters.
Lawrence was the real deal surprise here. Hop aboard the hype
t5rain, because I'll be watching now, just to see this kid
dismantle anyone they put in front of him.

I wish I could check this out, but I'm almost always working
during it's broadcast and I don't have a DVR. I really like the
live concept.

I would imagine you could replays during the week or online.
This will be a good season..there were 2-3 fighters heading into
the house that were light years ahead of the rest of the pack,
imo.
I see this Lawrence kid dominating anyone that he matches up
with.
Here's a wrap of the opener

Last nights episode was pretty killer..though the house stuff
was weak, but who really cares about the bromances.
Like I've been ranting, theres something that apparently
everyone on Faber's team sees as well: Justin Lawrence is a
beast. And a hungry one. In a unique fashion, Faber asked his
team who was ready to fight (Lawrence), instead of selecting
one. In an uncomfortable, awkward silence, his team staring at
their shoes, no one answered. No one wants to fight this kid.
They want to survive. There just isn't enough intel on this kid
to know his weaknesses, after a relatively short dismantling
last week in the selection show. What you see is what you get,
and as much as a hyperbole as it can sound like, this kid has
what it takes in this weight class to do some damage. Cruz
apparently thought so as well, selecting him first. I'm gonna
ride the wave with this kid.

I really though Cruikshank had the athletic ability and tools to
go far as well. I though I remembered from the opener bio, that
he brings black belts in multiple arts and comes from a family
of excellent fighters. He came after this sacrificial lamb James
Vick..the tall and lanky standup boxer, with some nice moves
early on, showing an array of spinning back kicks and spinning
backfists, taking command of the center of the ring early
on...and just like that, he shoots, right into Vicks knee.
Outfuckingcold. The bounceback off the mat did some damage too.
I have faith that if there's an injury down the line, he will be
the automatic stand in (as injuries have plagued the last few
seasons of UF)

Great recap. I'm gonna check out Lawrence. I thought there was a
replay on the other night, but it just turned out to be a
marathon of past seasons.

I almost feel bad posting about it, because of the spoiler
potential...
but there really is something with this Justin Lawrence kid. Lat
night he showed even more with his patience style of standup
boxing. He circled and countered, listening to his corner. You
new it was coming without telegraphing it. Nice barrages of
power shots and was in and out..showing great quickness and
motion.
Marcello didnt look bad, it's just this kid looks unstoppable.
He broke his will, by seeming to counter every blow with
something with just more on the end of it. He hurt him mid way
into second, and nothing but power came after that, sending
Marcello to the mat with some solid lunging strikes preceded by
a nice kick that landed pretty flush. Lawrence missed with
several spinning backfists during the 2 rounds. Any single one
lands, this fight is over. You can hear them cut the air almost.
The only sentiment I can come away even remotely negative, is
that I read Marcello was coming off two pro losses before coming
to the show, so his head might not have been in the game this
late in his career. Too bad really for a Gracie' protege

Pinchel showed the most stamina last night with the chokehold in
the sudden death 3rd round. nice finish to a pretty close fight
Ogle looks very mentally fragile as does Sicilia (who was
selected to fight Saunders next week) both showing that the show
and expectations/mounting pressure is weighing on them. They
both need to keep focused or they are done
