Tangled Discussion (spoilers) and upcoming Disney/Pixar
"BRAVE"

So I finally saw Tangled on Tuesday. While it was no Hunchback
of Notre Dame, I did love it a lot. And kudos to Disney for
having the heroine be 18 instead of a certain sixteen year old,
red-headed marriage- happy mermaid I won't mention.
But some serious/not so serious questions that I wanted to ask
the audience are:
-Do you think that Mother Gothel cared for Rapunzel at all other
then for using her for the healing powers of her hair?
-Do you think Eugene/Flynn suffered from chronic kleptomania,
and what sort of toll would this put on his and Rapunzel's
relationship?
-Did you prefer Rapunzel as a barbie blonde, or a much more
butch brunette? And what sort of message does this say about
Disney and its' perceptions of beauty?
-Do you think there was any sexual tension between Mother Gothel
and the Stabbington Brothers?

1) Erm, no.
2) No, he just wants to be rich. 8D AND RAPUNZEL'S A PRINCESS,
that's solved.
3) She was cuter as a blonde but strangely sexier as a brunette,
as if it matured her.
4) FFFF, MOST DEFINITELY. What do you think they were doing
while they were waiting, playing scrabble?
AND I TAKE IT SOMEONE ISN'T AN ARIEL FAN? D8
Well I don't really care if you don't like her, I hate Belle. xD
OH YES I LOVE TANGLED SO MUCH YES. It isn't out here until Jan-
oh, wait... LATER THIS MONTH. So I'm going to take Lia to the
cinema to see it. <333

For some reason I actually do think Gothel cared for her, even
if it is just a tiny, tiny bit. I mean she could have treated
Rapunzel like Tremaine treated Cinderella. There was no reason
at all for her to be nice to the girl if all she wanted was to
use her to keep her own youth. I mean she joked around with
Rapunzel-in her own sense of humor- and even was willing to go
out and get Rapunzel the fancy paint for her birthday. And I
think Rapunzel cared for her still. I couldn't imagine Rapunzel
suddenly losing all of her affections for her "mother" just
because of a lie. It was a big, serious, and horrible lie, but
still. All those years, and the emotional connection she had to
the woman couldn't of disappeared like that. I think that is
shown when Rapunzel reaches for Gothel before she fell from the
tower.
I don't know about Flynn. I think he stole for survival, and due
to his story, merely for the fun and the adventure and title he
could gain from such a life as a famous thief. Nothing more.
I think I actually prefer Rapunzel as a blonde. I mean when she
turned brunette, and with that short hair cut, I kept thinking
Mandy Moore. That's Mandy Moore right there. Not a bad thing,
per say, I guess, but I didn't like it. I guess it doesn't
matter. Disney most likely will market her, like they are doing
now, as a long haired blonde in a pink//lavender(?) dress. But I
guess it suits. I'm all for originality, but you have to confess
that most Rapunzels are blonde, so it is not a big deal that
they made her one.
No, they followed her to get the crown-and to get back at Flynn.
They seemed too dumb to care about anything else. She most
certainly had bigger things to pursue.
So anyone heard anything about Brave? Princess Mérida is
supposedly scheduled to be our next Disney Princess, even though
her film is being made by Pixar. She is said to have red hair,
or reddish brown type of hair from an old sketch I saw of her.
And she'll be Scottish (played by Reese Witherspoon), and I
think somewhat of a tomboy? IDK. But she'd rather be an archer
than a princess, so I assume she could possibly be a more fierce
character. I hope so. It will also star Emma Thompson (the voice
of Captain Amelia) as a queen named Elinor. And Julie Walters as
a Witch. Interesting.
Edit: Here’s the picture.

Strange. I’ve yet to hear as to whom those little boys are, I
guess they're her brothers. And is that the queen? She appears
awfully young. And is that the King? I know the movie is over a
year away, but I’d love to find some more info about it. ^^

1.) Yes, absolutely. Otherwise Rapunzel would've left the tower
faster than you can say Jiminy Cricket. Moreover, I think
Gothel, in a twisted way, loved that stupid flower. Since said
flower became a part of Rapunzel, she was forced to love the
girl as well--until she rebelled, of course.
2.) Lul I read "toll" as "troll". I think Eugene wasn't a
klepto. I think he had fallen into an unfortunate pattern he
didn't know how to get out of. Like an alcoholic. I guess you
could call it kleptomania; but I think of it as more of a
lifelong obsession with getting the comforts he never had as a
child. /psychobabble.
3.) I think Disney's use of the line: "I always had a thing for
brunettes" is just proof that girls can be beautiful regardless
of their hair color or shape. She is the first Disney princess
with a near-pixie haircut, which says a lot, to me. She is
lovely either way; Flynn falls in love with her and STAYS in
love with her, even throughout her physical changes. Her beauty
comes from within. And omg freckles. In short, I think she is
beautiful as a blonde and brunette alike. Either way, she is a
perfect princess, in my opinion.
4.) ...Jam, go sit in a corner. GROSSSS.
@Iris: I'm not looking forward to the Bear and the Bow. I WAS
looking forward to the Snow Queen, but it's been put on reserve
for...ever. I heard the song Alan Menken wrote for it and whined
in piteous agony about it not being a finished or potentially
finished project. The designs of "Brave" are cute, but I heard
some negative things about it. Like the fact that Disney doesn't
want to focus on female protagonists anymore; they want to
alternate between boys and girls. Not necessarily a bad thing,
but it irks me that they will change entire stories for the sake
of gender roles and differential points of view. So in short, my
recollection on "Brave" is that I heard mentioned it will also
be postponed in exchange for the favoritism of a plot focusing
more on a male character; or else Disney will eradicate the
redheaded Scottish princess and use her brothers as the main
characters instead.
