Gods Can’t Save You Now, or Can They?
A review on “Of Gods” by Lumberjay.
       Written by tbremise.
Introduction: Lumberjay is well known for some great games with
unique concepts, “Of Gods” is no exception. The game has some
beautiful levels and great puzzles, but what really makes the
game complete is the story line. Let’s just say, Lumberjay out
       did himself again.
Gameplay/story: “Of Gods”, is a game that has a unique concept,
being a less noticed sequel to Pyros, I think that the gameplay
was well thought out. I think the best way to explain the story
is to quote his description, “After Pyros was killed by his
brother, the mortal and godly planes began to suffer from
strange occurrences. A god had never been killed before, and the
consequences proved dire. In time, all existence will fall,
leaving nothing but darkness and shadow. It is up to Hydros: God
of Water and Life, Pyra: Goddess of Wrath, and Celeste: A
demigoddess with psychic powers, to save existence.” Doesn’t
that just scream out an exciting challenge to you as a player?
With the main story following around three Gods and Goddesses,
you are given unique powers for each, Hydros, the power of
water, Pyra, fire and floatation, and Celeste, also floats and
psychic like abilities. Lumberjay keeps the game thrilling, as
he makes you follow each character’s story in two level
intervals, one challenge with a puzzle, the second a boss level.
Level design: Each level brought new and exciting aspects to the
game, along with the different abilities your characters had
available. Lumberjay had a well thought out design of the game,
alternating boss and puzzle challenge levels every other level,
the only exceptions are the last two levels, when you have two
boss levels In a row. After seeing the first two levels, I had
expected the game to be the similar and perhaps get a little too
repetitive, but I was wrong. The game kept up appearances, and
continued to challenge throughout. Each Boss level has a new
challenges where you have to figure out how to hurt them in
each. With the difficulty of each boss rising, the last boss
brings the games challenge to a climax, with you having to
control two characters at once and the god’s abilities
ridiculously hard to defend against, you must just find a way to
wait out the clock in this level, because the God is unbeatable
       otherwise.
Puzzles: I don’t know how Lumberjay thought up some of these
puzzles, and why he even put them in the game, but I must admit,
it definitely helps keep the game interesting. With three fun
puzzles, each one more challenging than the last, he puts a
little pressure on you, making it all the more enjoyable. And
even though the puzzles seemed simple, they did take a little
       thought to solve.
Enemies/Hazards: As the title suggests, you are Gods battling
other Gods. With each boss level being the main enemies on the
levels, I was in a way disappointed. Even with this thought,
they were more than enough to bring a challenge to the game. On
the other hand, in the puzzle levels, Lumberjay adds more
challenge as the game progresses, he adds hazards in the second
one, and then enemies along with hazards in the third and fourth
puzzle levels. I suppose the game has some good hazards, but I
just didn’t think they were the real challenge in the game.
Scenery: I like how the game has some decent graphics and
scenery, along with the 3d platforms. Each level gave you the
feel of playing a professional game. Sometimes, though, I think
some of the scenery and background selection may have made the
game lag slightly, but even with that slight set back, it looked
believable. It immersed you into a world of Gods and demons,
from the perspective of Lumberjay, which no one can argue with
is beautifully done. I think any of the levels could have been
satisfactory for the thumbnail of the game as they all depict a
       beautiful world of the Gods.
Addictiveness: Is this game addicting? In my opinion it is,
after you are immersed into the first two levels, the game draws
in the players’ attention, which is the goal of all game makers.
The game keeps you on your toes as well. I can say that I will
be entertained every time I feel like playing this game. The
most addicting thing about it is the challenge of beating the
boss levels that are throughout the game in my opinion.
Creativity: You have to be creative to come up with this sort of
game. With the unique story line and the multitude of
challenges, “Of Gods” has to be one of the most creative ppg
platform-like games I have played on sploder.
Final thoughts: Lumberjay has created a classic game with a
great story line, a multitude of puzzles, and many great boss
levels all put together in one great bundle. Though I did find
the lag in a few levels annoying and some of the hazards in the
game pointless, the game is very enjoyable and entertaining to
play. The concept in “Of Gods” is original, and the gameplay
along with it. I expect more of these types of games to come
       from Lumberjay in the future.

Apparently this review was too bland, having headings was bad,
and the format made it seems like a "scientific study" and that
I wasn't voicing my opinions. I am surprised that I got this
sort of feedback as I actually do talk like this sometimes, so
him saying that I am not voicing my opinions is false, but I am
not about to complain with anyone, as that would get me
banned... I guess I will have to make it more my own next time.
This really surprised me because I based the fromat off of a
review that YoungCaliman did when he wrote a review... oh well.
