Ch. 2
Time for training!
That night I couldn’t sleep. “What is wrong with me? Why am I
joining the FBI?” I felt like my brain was going to explode. I
got out of my bed and decided to look around the chambers that
the headquarters gave me. It was sort of dull. It had a dresser,
a cot, a chest with a lock on it, and the door. I left the room
and walked around looking for a cup of water. I heard someone
around the corner. I tried to listen to them, but they had
gotten closer, so ran back to my room.
It was still dark when I was awoken for my training. “Dark
Fire! Wake up!” yelled Steifer. I got up, exhausted, and
followed him through the corridors. He led me to a dark room
with ladders, ramps, and bunkers in it. “This is the simulation
room. It is where you will do your training,” The boss said
through a speaker. “This time you will be training with a laser
tag gun.”
I was given the toy gun and then Steifer left the room. Lights
flashed, there was a loud noise, and then I was surrounded by
people and animals. I was in a marketplace in Africa. I heard a
scream and saw someone steal something from a woman.

I started to chase him, but he tricked me and escaped down an
alley. “Boy! This sure seems real.” I said aloud. I went back to
the scene of the crime. I looked all around for clues, hints,
anything that could help me find the criminal.
I found a letter. It read, “Dear Shadow, You won’t beat me.
You can find me at the alley behind the market.” I decided to
take his bet and went to the alley that is behind the market and
sure enough he was there. I took aim with the laser gun and
almost got a shot at him when he yelled, “Get him boys!”
Ten more goons came out of nowhere. They had knives and the
leader of the gang had a chain. I grabbed my gun and took aim. I
shot at one of the goons, there was a flicker of light, and then
he disappeared. Two others tried to jump me, but I was too fast
and turned and shot those guys too.
At the end of my shooting craze, it was just me and the leader.
I shot him, but he wouldn’t die. He whipped his chain at me and
hit me in the head. The blow nearly knocked me out. It felt like
blood was rushing out of my head were he had hit me. “It didn’t
take you long to recover, Shadow!” He said as he swung again. I
ducked for his second attack. I hit him with the gun and it
knocked him out cold.

The room was consumed in darkness. “Simulation over,” A robot
voice said. There was a flash of light and then I was back in
the simulation room. I heard applause, looked around and noticed
all of the agents were clapping for me on how well I did on my
first “mission”. “Well done!” The boss said. “The simulation
has just given you a name. It is Shadow!” Steifer said. “Wow! My
name is now Shadow D. Fire!”
