Steve sees Tony's frown after he tells him to
leave, and his heart drops. Does Tony really want to stay here?
Steve wants him to stay, but danger. This could be dangerous.
He's having feeling he hasn't felt in many, many years, and it's
too dangerous. Something might happen, and Steve's whole world
will crumble. Love is dangerous, especially with him. It's not
love, damnit, it's just... and obsession. No, that sounds
creepy. Um, it's a crush... that he can prevent... if Tony
leaves.
"C'mon, Rogers, I just got here."
Tony's smiling... Oh god, he's smiling. He's so... perfect,
which is why he needs to leave. Steve.... he.... he's not...
Tony's....
"I'm sorry," he suddenly blurts out, blushing just a tad, but
quickly hiding his face. "Thank you, for coming, it means a lot
to me, but... um... now's just not a good time." You're stupid.
"Thank you for caring as well." Shut up, Rogers, you're being
stupid. "I'm sorry," he repeats, wanting more than anything to
just wrap his arms around Tony and make him ignore his words,
make him stay. "I've, uh, got to find lunch and stuff. Really
busy day." Can you get anymore dumb?

Tony can see Steve's face softening, perhaps preparing
to let him in, but, suddenly, he blurts out an apology, and is
asking Tony again, to leave, looking awfully shy and awkward as
he explains that it's not a good time, that he has to find
lunch. Tony can pretty easily tell that Steve is lying, though
that's probably because he's (apparently) not very good at it.
And he doesn't really look as if he wants Tony gone, either. He
really just seems flustered.
Tony's not sure what compels him to make him say what he does
next. [b]"There's lunch at my place," he offers, quiet,
beseeching. "C'mon. Pepper makes the best BLT you've ever had in
your life, I swear. And you look like you could use a shower.
And a shave." Oh, god. He's actually inviting Steve Rogers to
his house. What a teenage girl. "And we could watch a movie. How
many movies have you seen in this day and age? Have you even
seen 3D yet? We can watch a 3D movie and eat BLTs. That's a good
day in anyone's book."

Steve doesn't know what he's expecting from
Tony. Part of him expects him to just leave like he has been
asking, but the other part of him thinks he's just going to
stay. However, he doesn't expect what actually does happen...
And what happens is that Tony invites him over to his house.
Tony's house. His domain. Where he sleeps, eats, showers, gets
dressed... everything. He tells him that Pepper (Pepper?) makes
the best BLT, and that Steve looks like he can use a shower and
a shave, and that they can watch a 3D movie, whatever that is.
It sounds wonderful, but... is Tony really inviting him over to
his house?
"Who's Pepper?" he blurts out when he had originally planned for
his first question to be if whether or not Tony's serious. "I
mean, um... do you really want me to come to your house? Won't
you get arrested if you get caught with me in your home?" Do you
really trust me that much? Why do you care? I mean, Steve's all
for staying at Tony's, being with him for who knows how long...
just... being casual with him. He might even get to know more
about Tony, and that's something Steve craves. It's the best
plan he has ever heard of, but it's not the safest, and Steve
wants Tony to be safe.

Tony watches, becoming increasingly more hopeful as
Steve stares, awaiting his reply. This is actually kind of
exciting, now. Who knows how Steve could react to JARVIS and
Dummy and, yes, even 3D movies, can you imagine? Steve suddenly
asks who Pepper is, and then quickly backtracks, asking if
Tony's sure, if he could get arrested if they catch him with
Steve in his house. Jesus, that's adorable. Wait, no, bad, not
adorable. That's, like, a valid question.
[b]"Point," Tony admits, frowning, but immediately brightens up
again. "But, hey, come on, you don't think Fury grants me some
immunity? I mean, he doesn't want you arrested, either. And
where else are you gonna go? Sh*t, okay, not what I meant. Look,
just-- let me do this. You deserve to be clean and well-fed, at
least for a night. And I'll show you who Pepper is." He smiles,
though is kind of hoping Pepper won't pose a problem -- Steve's
got a crush on him, he could get jealous. But he seems pretty...
in control, when he want to be. Hopefully everything will go
smoothly.

Steve frowns when Tony does, figuring that
that was the end of Tony's little idea. That once Tony leaves,
Steve will have to scavenge for food and sleep on a dirt-covered
floor like every night. However, Tony's smiling again, saying
how Fury doesn't want him in jail and will basically protect
them if they were to be found. He goes on to ask about where
else he would go, apologizing right after even though Steve had
not been offended. Steve doesn't really know where else he's go
besides another abandoned building that's in worse shape than
this one. But Tony's not through yet, asking him to let him do
this, that he deserves to be clean and well-fed for one night,
that he'll show him who Pepper is (not that that's the best
idea).
Steve watches as Tony smiles again, that beautiful, perfect
slight upturn of the lips that has Steve's heart skip a beat
each time. God, how could he possibly resist staying at least a
day with him? That's just it, he can't. He wants to catch every
single one of Tony's smiles and be there when he laughs. It's
the little bit of joy he gets out of this world, and it's enough
for him to get by on... but he's not in love.
"Okay," he agrees, smiling slightly. "I'll come with
you."

Tony grins at Steve as he finally agrees to come over,
looking a little happier himself. [b]"Perfect. Let's go," Tony
replies cheerfully, and gets to his feet, holding out a hand to
help Steve up. Tony will admit, he's kind of curious to see what
Steve looks like once he's clean and clipped -- sure, he's
already a pretty good-looking guy, but the scruff and the
blood-stained clothes doesn't exactly work wonders for him.
Right. Blood-stained. Tony really need to get him to stop with
that or there won't be much of a case to hold with him.
"Listen, there's something you need to know before we take off.
Don't freak out. There's some guys, SHIELD agents, about a block
away. They're not going to come inside, they were just there to
make sure nothing explodes. You don't even have to look at them,
though, I'll give them the signal and we'll deal with Fury
later. Okay? Is that alright?"

Steve smiles a little more genuinely at
Tony's cheeriness, finding it slightly contagious as the man
gets to his feet and holds out his hand to help Steve up. Before
he takes it, though, Tony warns him that there are SHIELD agents
about a block away, that he shouldn't freak out, that he doesn't
even have to look at them because Tony will give them a signal
and he can deal with Fury later.
Steve blinks at Tony, eyes practically boring into his friend's,
wondering if he can truly trust him before remembering Tony's
promise. Besides, Tony probably wouldn't try to trick him twice
after the last time. Steve can still hear the sound of that
agent's neck cracking... so slowly, he reaches up and takes Tony
hand, getting himself up and perhaps hanging onto Tony's hand
for a bit too long before quickly letting it go.
"Yeah, that's fine," he says, blushing a little again. "Thank
you," he adds because, hey, the man is doing a lot for him. He's
still not sure why he's doing so much for him, but the point
still stands. "Lead the way."

Tony's faith wavers a little as Steve stares at him, not
knowing what to expect when it comes to him, anymore. Tony's
experienced firsthand how quickly Steve's attitude can change...
he doesn't exactly want to be on his bad side again. So Steve
stares at him, guarded, and Tony stares right back, until,
finally, something changes in Steve's eyes, and he lets Tony
help him up, lingering with his hand in Tony's. Steve lets go
and quickly assures Tony it's fine, blushing a little bit. The
color in his cheeks fascinates Tony a lot more than it should,
and, a little guilty, he thinks about how much it would take to
make him blush all over.
Steve thanks him, and then tells him to lead the way, so Tony
takes him by the arm and does just that, leading them outside.
He hopes that passerby won't take too long to stare at Steve, or
they might notice the parts of him that are more murder-ish than
not. From a distance, Tony can see the SHIELD squad's van,
parked and waiting, and he waves them the signal that
everything's okay before he takes Steve straight in the opposite
direction. Fury will definitely yell at him about this, but
Tony's got a good ten minutes before word gets around.
Walking quickly, Tony reaches to get his phone out of his
pocket, and calls Happy. He picks up almost immediately.
[b]"Hey there, Hogan. Hoping you could get us a ride."
"I thought I didn't work for you anymore? Head of Security,
remember?"
"Then get someone else over to Flatbush Avenue, Brooklyn. This
is important. Make sure they don't ask questions."
"Tony, I can't waste resources because you killed a hooker, or
whatever you did--"
"Hey, no, not me. I'm much more classy. Look, if I call Pepper,
she'll get mad at me, I know she won't drive him to the house,
much less let him in."
"Him? What did you do, adopt a stray?"
"Yeah," Tony says, giving Steve a look, "Something like that."
Finally, Tony manages to convince him, and, with two minutes to
spare, a car eventually pulls up to where they're waiting.
"After you," Tony says to Steve, stepping away from him and
motioning inside the vehicle.

Tony takes Steve by the arm after he tells
him to lead the way, and drags him outside. Steve glances over
to his left to see the SHIELD vans parked there, a man inside
one of them pointing at Steve until Tony waves at them, giving
them the signal. He looks away, and Tony takes him the opposite
direction of the SHIELD vans, pulling out his phone as Steve
easily kept up with Tony's fast pace. He calls some man by the
name of Hogan, asking if they can get a ride because apparently
Pepper wouldn't do it. Steve can already tell that his visit is
going to be a little... difficult. I mean, to everyone in New
York, he's a murderer, so how can this Pepper woman just so
easily let him in to stay and such?
However, soon after Tony hangs up the phone, a car pulls around,
Tony opening the door for him and telling him to get in. Steve
manages a slightly nervous smile, not really used to getting in
strange cars to be taken to someones house, but he gets in
anyways, awkwardly waving at the driver as Tony slides in after
him. His heart is racing, but he can't explain why. At least
it's not from panic.
A few minutes go by before a large tower comes in sight, one
Steve has seen many times before with it's incredible height and
giant "A" on the top. It's the Avengers Tower, and Steve guesses
that that's where they're headed. Perhaps Tony doesn't really
reside in New York like Steve does... kind of.
The car pulls up to the front, and he and Tony get out, Steve
craning his neck to stare up at the tower, the light of the sun
reflecting brilliantly off it's glass. It's a strange building
to Steve, but he supposes he can get used to it just like he has
gotten used to every thing else around him.
"Did you build this?" Steve asks, walking to the front door with
Tony, making conversation as his heart continues to beat quickly
in his chest.

When they next step out of the car, Tony observes
Steve's face for any reaction he might have to the tower. It was
Stark tower, but, however much Tony had enjoyed seeing his name
plastered across the skyline, he things the single 'A' thing is
going to stick. He's making floors for all of them, Bruce and
Natasha and Clint and Thor, as well as a communal floor,
kitchen, theater, the whole shebang. He, of course, gets the
penthouse, with Pepper, and beneath all of that will be the
actual company. They're still in the process of patching all the
holes, but seeing as how Tony was looking to spend just a little
more time in New York, he's looking forward to having it all
finished.
Steve asks if Tony built the tower, craning his neck up to look
as the whole thing as they walk, and Tony laughs a little, just
because he likes talking about his genius. [b]"Ah, well, yes, I
mean, I designed it. I kind of had to strip everything down and
rebuild after the Battle, but it's almost to its full glory
again. It's run by a giant one of these, basically," Tony taps
the ring of light on his chest, kind of forgetting that Steve
probably had no idea what the reactor even does, "and, of
course, being built by me, could run on it's own for a year.
Waste-free, too. I'm kind of the only name in clean energy by
now."
By this time they've entered the building, a teeming mass of
activity, and nobody has much time for Tony Stark and his
walking companion. The girl at the front desk, however, does
interrupt their path to the elevator. "Mr. Stark? Ah, you missed
your eleven o'clock with the Red Panda Network. Ms. Potts has
threatened to--" she pauses, looking down at a slip of paper in
her hand, "--grow claws, and, um--"
"You know what, sweetheart, it's fine," Tony waves away the rest
of what she was about to say. "Send them a donation, something
extravagant, make sure it's a multiple of five. Red pandas,
sure, why not. I'm kind of busy right now, I'm sure you can
handle it." He's already walking again. The girl stares after
him with her mouth partly open, and suddenly seems to notice
Steve. Her eyes grow a little wide.
"You're okay with elevators, right?" Tony asks Steve, walking
briskly, talking a mile a minute. "I mean, you're not
claustrophobic or anything? Of course, I have stairs, but it's
gonna take you a little longer. Me, I'm a little too old for
that much climbing, and a little too rich to stand in a crowd,
so, private elevator, no people, if you're worried about that.
By all means, though, take the stairs if you want."
