Steve watches Tony and glances at the ice he
gave him, wondering why he wasn't putting it against his head.
It's for his head. But before Steve can tell him, Tony answers
his question, saying hes been better, saying that he kind of
passed out... and now his hands cold. His head. Put it on your
head. Maybe Steve should do it for him. He does know to put ice
on the head after its been hit, right? It's not like he can put
it in a tiny bag or anything, he doesn't have one of those.
Then Tony looks around and sees his suit, nicely assembled on
the table. In pieces, of course, but that couldn't really be
avoided. Hopefully they can be put back together, though. It's
like a giant puzzle, really. However, Tony quickly makes it
clear that the suit cannot be put back together, and asks if
Steve had taken him out of battle. Then Tony goes on to scold
him, causing Steve to frown with guilt, saying that people are
getting hurt with him gone. He doesn't understand, though.
Tony's hurt. He can't fight while he's hurt, so Steve is helping
him.
Tony stands up, and a little too quickly for that matter. He
drops the ice, no doubt his head is pounding, and drops to his
knees. Steve becomes immediately concerned, his expression
turning gravely serious as he gets to his feet and rushes over
to Tony's side. "Don't try to stand up," he warns him, scooping
Tony's body up into his arms, the warmth of the man spreading
throughout him. "You need to lie down and rest some more," he
says, lying him back down in the bed, brushing some of his hair
out of his face, being extremely gentle.
Without a word, he heads back over to his bag of ice, getting
some more out before getting a good idea and heading over to the
desk, digging through the top drawer and pulling out a rubber
surgical glove and dropping the ice inside, tying a knot at the
top. "Here," he says, handing him the glove of ice, "for your
head."

Tony hears Rogers' voice, telling him not to stand, then hands
lifting him, scooping him up, and it doesn't really occur to him
that Rogers is carrying him like a princess until he's being sat
down. While he's trying to get over the audacity of that,
Rogers tells him to lie down, and actually brushes hair out of
his face, so soft that Tony barely notices, but he definitely
sees, and gets an eyeful of Rogers' grave expression. What is
going on?
For a moment, he disappears from Tony's vision, but he shows up
a moment later with a rubber glove, and, once again, ice. He
hands the glove to Tony, clarifying it's for his head, and,
yeah, Tony had figured, but he doesn't get it.
"I don't understand," Tony says, sitting up and wincing at the
jarring movement. Gingerly, he presses the makeshift icepack
against the tender spot on his head. "There were doctors on
site. Why are you... helping me?" He supposes he could call it
that, but the whole thing really has come as a grand in
convenience for him, and Tony would probably be a lot more angry
if he weren't so busy being in pain.

Steve feels right to smile again as Tony
takes the glove of ice, but then immediately frowns again as
Tony sits up too fast yet again, saying he doesn't understand,
but finally places the ice against his head. He asks why Steve
didn't leave him to the doctors on site, and why... he's helping
him.
Steve smiles once again, sitting back down on his chair and
recrossing his legs, staring up at Tony through his big, blue
eyes. "I like you," he says like it's completely normal, setting
his hands in his lap. It's true, obviously, Steve really does
like him. In more way than one, it would seem. Tony's nice and
seems interested in him. Perhaps not the sort of interested
Steve would be hoping for, but interested enough to stay with
him for awhile and listen to what he has to say. Interested
enough to so far not tell SHIELD anything he knows. Or, well, at
least, Steve hopes he hasn't. Plus, Tony is probably the most
beautiful person he has ever lied eyes on for years. "And I
don't trust those doctors... SHIELD's doctors. They keep too
much from people," he explains, being completely honest with
Tony.
Steve looks down at himself, staying silent a few seconds before
looking back up. "I'm not... what you think I am," he says
quietly, almost randomly. "I'm not... evil, and I'm certainly
not heartless." Steve starts twiddling his thumbs, tension
inside him rising. "I've lost a lot, and its... changed me..."
he tells Tony, memories flashing quickly through his brain like
pictures being freshly taken from a camera.
"Not now..." he tells himself, staring at a spot in the wall,
"you can't loose yourself right now..."

Tony's eyebrows raise a hair, fractionally surprised when Rogers
just comes out and says that he likes him, looking as if he
means in a rather board, all-encompassing sense. He's only
fractionally surprised because the whole kidnapping, protective
thing is a bit of a give away, and Rogers seems a lot more happy
with him around. This whole thing really is inconvenient but...
at least nobody's hurting him. Rogers also adds that he doesn't
trust the doctors, and then, after a few moment's silence,
continues, letting Tony know that he's not what he appears, that
he is only how he is because of what's happened to him. Tony
stares at him a while, and then drops his gaze.
"I think if you were evil I'd be three day's dead," he says,
frowning, and returning his gaze to Steve's face. He looks as if
he's trying to figure out a particularly challenging puzzle.
"And I don't think you're heartless, either. You made mistakes.
Big mistakes, but, that's what we all do. We're human. Can't
blame you for that -- I know how it works. Something throws you
off track, and your whole life gets turned around. Things don't
look how they're supposed to anymore." And Tony doesn't excuse
Steve for his actions -- he's killed innocent people, that's a
major problem -- but at the very least he can understand what
caused it all.

Steve feels like he's going to snap at any
second. Like he's going to loose himself and and come back to
find people dead at his feet. However, Tony starts talking,
coaxing him out of his temporary state of panic with his words.
Tony tells him basically that he believes him, believes that
he's not evil, or heartless. The sad thing is, though, those are
the nicest words Steve has heard about him in many, many years.
But Tony goes on, basically describing his entire life situation
right now, and Steve is... shocked, to say the least.
He stares at Tony probably longer than necessary, debating
whether or not the man is an angel sent from the heavens. He
sure seems like it, and Steve-- Steve is mesmerized with Tony.
Hes never met anyone like him, and Steve really wants to keep
him here as long as he can to find out more about him, and to
tell him more about himself, because he's desperate to get
closer to Tony for reasons he can't really explain at the
moment. Yet, he knows Tony needs to get back home soon before
everyone starts worrying and looking for him, because, knowing
SHIELD, they will find him.
"Thank you," Steve says softly, looking down at himself and
smiling just a tad. "You're... different than the others. I like
that," he admits, messing with his thumbs. "You're more kind and
understanding," he adds, getting more and more quiet as he goes
along.
He needs to take Tony back now.
Slowly, Steve gets to his feet again, and carefully approaches
Tony, not making any sudden movements that would make him appear
threatening. "Come on, I think I've had you long enough now.
SHIELD is probably looking for you," he says while placing a
gentle hand under Tony's arm, carefully helping him up and out
of bed, wrapping an arm around him in case he got dizzy. Sadly
though, Steve still has to cover Tony's eyes, just so he can't
find his way back, and leads Tony back up the steps, and down
the roads he went last time, taking him back to SHIELD's
headquarters.
"Take care of yourself, Tony," Steve murmurs near his ear before
letting him go, making sure Tony's close to the door so people
can help him before backing away into the shadows. He really
wishes there was a way to keep Tony longer and to be with him
more. He's starting to get sort of attached to the man, and he's
still not sure if that's good or bad. Who knows, it might even
be both.

Tony smiles a little as Steve admits he likes him better than
the others, that he's more kind and understanding. It's sweet,
even if it's also wrong. Tony's not being kind -- he really does
get where Steve's coming from. Sure, his life-changing
experience kind of changed him for the better, the opposite of
what it did to Steve, but that's neither here nor there -- he
gets it, is all he means.
Next thing he knows, Steve is approaching him, telling him it's
time to leave. Tony lets himself be pulled up and led away with
his eyes covered, but he'd almost wished that he didn't have to
go. He knows it's not up to him, and he wouldn't want to make
Steve uncomfortable by intruding on his space, or whatever,
but... Steve interests him. He doesn't understand all of him,
but he wants to.
The way back to SHIELD is the same as last, and Tony's
practically mapped out a chart in his head by now, but he still
doesn't really plan on telling SHIELD anything about it. When
they finally come to a stop, Steve whispers a goodbye in his ear
before he once again melts away. Tony just barely represses a
shiver, and when he opens his eyes he's back where he really
would rather not be. He doesn't bother to turn back and look for
Steve this time -- he knows he won't see anything, and he knows
that Steve won't come out, either. He just takes a deep breath,
tries to steady his steps, and walks, leaning on the wall the
whole time, into the building.

Word spreads to Fury fast, telling him that
Stark's back, suit gone, glove of ice against his head.
Immediately, Fury's on the move, going down to meet Stark and
ask him where the hell he has been, because he disappeared
during a fight, and now he has ice and everything for his head.
Could the motherf***er really not stay in battle because of his
head? It's really not like Stark to just get up and leave a
battle, he's usually in the front lines.
Fury makes it down close to the entrance of HQ to see Stark
leaning against a wall, suitless with an icepack against his
head just like everyone had said. "Where the hell have you been,
Stark?" he asks, approaching him. "We have agents on every
corner of New York City looking for you, and you just stumble in
here like you've just gotten back from sipping tea with the
Queen," he points out, stopping right in front of the man. "You
disappeared during combat without letting anyone know where you
were going, now I'd like to know exactly what happened."
Fury leans against the wall, mimicking Stark, waiting for an
answer that makes sense. Last time Stark showed up with no suit
and a minor injury, it was coming back from Rogers', and the
injury was only minor because Steve had stitched him up. If Fury
didn't know better, he would say that Rogers has a little thing
for Tony, but then again, Fury knows that Steve's kindness and
compassion still lies within him deep down, and perhaps it just
takes a fool like Stark to bring it back out of him.

Tony doesn't get the peace he'd been hoping for for long. Word,
apparently, gets around disgustingly fast, and before he really
has time to process much of anything, Fury is storming down from
whatever hellish office he comes from, asking where he's been.
Tony grimaces -- Fury's voice is kind of grating, not to mention
very loud, and it makes his head throb. At least Steve was quiet
about kidnapping him, not to mention gentle. He gave him an ice
pack, for god's sake.
"What, you actually think I got up and walked off?" Tony says.
"Gee, Fury, last I recall people who are unconscious can't do
that. Maybe we should go ask a professional, just in case." Even
dry wit hurts him. Headquarters are significantly noisier than
abandoned buildings. "It was Rogers. he saw me go down and
just... dragged me back to wherever he's at. I mean, really, I'm
terribly sorry for the inconvenience, but if you don't mind I'd
liked to go get my head scanned now and make sure I don't have
brain damage."

Fury listens to Stark's explanation,
discovering that Stark had gotten knocked out, using his awful
taste in humor to further his point, before saying that Rogers
had dragged him away and took him back to his hideout. So, once
again, Steve pinpointed Stark and took him to take care of him.
Why does Rogers keep doing this? Why does he care so much about
Stark? Did it have something to do with Tony's heritage, or was
it something deeper than that? Rogers is a hard man to figure
out, but with some answers, Fury can probably solve the puzzle.
However, before he can ask more questions, Tony says he should
go have his head checked out. Fury thought he would never ask.
He grabs his walkie-talkie, and holds it up to his mouth. "Tell
Dr. Banner to report to the sick bay, and get me some medics
down here to escort Mr. Stark," Fury orders before sliding the
walkie-talkie back into its pouch, staring at Stark. "What has

Tony's nose crinkles a bit as the Director continues

God, he makes it sound like Tony's being defiled, or something.
"Okay, you can relax, and stop with whatever homoerotic fantasy

Tony's still reluctant to give any kind of information regarding
Rogers to SHIELD. He knows that they could help him, but...
Rogers doesn't trust SHIELD, and chances are he'd end up
panicking and hurting more people if they got too close. He's
