Tony opens his mouth, about to say something, Steve just
waiting to hear what other idiotic things he has to say before
the intercom comes on again, Maria warning them about AIM.
Damnit. Really? AIM, right now?
Tony stands up as if he's about to go somewhere, talking about
being a drunken idiot, before actually telling him to get his
team because he's coming. Stark really is out of his damn mind.
The man's drunk and can barely even say a full sentence without
almost slurring every word. He's not focused, and he's
definitely not fit for battle. He can't lead in this state,
it'll put too many people in danger (not to mention, himself).
"No," Steve says, voice low, staring at Stark, ready to pin him
against the wall if he makes another move towards the door. "I
will assemble my team, Stark, but you're staying here until you
sober up," he warns, going towards the door. "You're not fit for
battle, and until you are, I'm in charge," he tells him, turning
on Tony's intercom to call his team to the Quinjet.

Tony scowls at Steve as he refuses to let Tony go, as
if he has the power to stop Tony. He tells Tony that he's not
fit for battle and that, for the time being, he's in charge. He
reaches for the intercom, but Tony's there in a second, pinning
his wrist down, and leans in close, fire burning in his eyes.
"You don't get to make the call of who's in charge, Commander.
This is me giving a damn, and doing something about it. I
thought that was what you wanted?
"I'm getting the suit. I will meet you in Manhattan. You can't
do a thing about it." He takes a step back and lets go of
Steve's wrist, something of a challenge in his eyes, daring
Steve to stop him. He won't lie and say that he's not doing this
to piss Steve off, won't say that it's not because Steve is
pulling the you-told-me-to card and he can do the exact same
thing, but he cares about the team, and about the world -- it's
just that nobody seems to believe that.

Steve is shocked when Tony suddenly comes over and pins
his wrist to the wall, preventing him from calling his team, his
face close, anger in his eyes. He knows it would be so easy to
just throw Tony back against the opposite wall, or to just
release himself from his grasp, but he wants to hear what Stark
has to say, because he might think he's threatening, but Steve
doesn't find a man who wreaks of alcohol threatening at all,
just plain pathetic (and sad).
Stark says that he's not in charge, that this is him giving a
damn, and Steve suppresses a dark laugh, because if this is
Stark giving a damn, they're more doomed than he had originally
thought. Then Stark says he's going to go get his suit and meet
him in Manhattan and there's nothing he can do about. The hell
he can't. And Tony then lets go of his wrist, taking a step
back.
"You're a damn fool, Stark. You going out like this is only
going to get you killed," he warns him before realizing that
what he had just said actually makes it sound like he cares.
"You know what, Stark? Forget it. Get yourself killed because
you're an idiot, I don't care," Steve growls, pressing the
intercom and calling his team to the Quinjet. "Meet you there in
five," he says shortly before leaving the room, actually
thinking that he wouldn't mind if Stark got hurt.

Tony looks like he's a little confused, caught
between surprise and anger as Steve makes it seems like he
actually cares, and then, promptly, doesn't. He ends up deciding
it doesn't matter, anyways, because Steve only acts like he
cares half the time because it's his job, because that's just
what he does -- but when it comes down to, when he sees who he's
actually sticking his neck out for, well, that's when things
changed.
Steve stalks out of the room, and Tony nearly clumps against the
wall, the conversation's exhausted him so much. But he can't
exactly not show up -- god knows how condescending Steve will be
if he doesn't. So Tony straightens up, calls the suit, and hopes
that he doesn't pass out while he's fighting. He may not quite
be a drunk yet, or an idiot, but he is kind of an idiot when
he's drunk.

Steve doesn't mention Tony's condition to anyone else
once they board the Quinjet, although he thinks he should, just
so they could... keep an eye on him, maybe. He's not really sure
why he feels like he should tell them, really, because if Tony
wants to be an idiot and try to fight AIM while drunk, then so
be it, let him get hurt and let that be a lesson to him.
They arrive in lower Manhattan to find AIM members everywhere,
dressed in there yellow suits, firing their weapons every which
way and just wreaking havoc.
"I don't understand, what's their motive?" Sam asks, staring
down at the destruction AIM is causing.
"I don't know, but it's AIM. Whatever they're up to, it's no
good," Steve tells him, T'Challa lowering the Quinjet to the
ground and opening it's bridge so they can get out. Sam
immediately follows after Steve, going back to the days where he
was basically his sidekick, following him into battle. Right
away, AIM is everywhere, ganging up on them and firing their
weapons, and Sam was right to ask what their motives were
because, as of now, it doesn't look like they really have one at
all except to kill.

Though he can feel the wind, and doesn't get very
chilly, flying through the air has somewhat of a sobering effect
on Tony. It's easier to fly in a straight line, however, when
JARVIS is the one automatically correcting you if you drift too
far one way or another. Either way, they get to the site without
incident. There aren't many civilians in the area, but it's a
mess that would be easier not to clean up. Tony flies ahead of
the rest of the team, firing his repulsors and smoothly dodging
what's thrown at him. He's not fighting like he's drunk -- he
feels kind of warm and fuzzy, but his reaction time is barely
delayed and is mostly compensates for by the warning already on
his screen.
Ten minutes in, when a few goons are closing in on Rogers, Tony
lands right next to him and kicks an opponent, sending him
sprawling backwards. "So, I'm going to get myself killed? Are
you counting on that, Commander?" he mocks, firing another
blast.
"That doesn't look good," Clint remarks, as something that looks
very much like a bomb casing is blasted into the sky. It rockets
straight upwards, and Tony's already flying.
"I've got it," he says, glancing at the HUD. It does appear to
be some kind of explosive, but Tony guesses that the shock wave
will probably do the real damage if they're shooting it this
high up. A little closer, and he can fry the controls... a
little higher...
The shell explodes, suddenly, without any warning, and a noise
like a cranked-up bass resonates from the impact, knocking Tony
back. His ears ringing, it takes him a second to realize that
the wave hasn't just knocked him back -- it's rendered the suit
entirely inert. "JARVIS?" The wind is whistling past him, the
HUD is blank, and he's falling, rapidly. "Wake up, J, come on.
JARVIS. JARVIS." The ground is coming increasingly closer,
getting bigger and bigger, wide and flat and hard. The second
before Tony hits, he realize he might actually be about to
die.

Steve fights back to back with Sam almost the whole time
until Sam tells him he's going to a different area, spreading
his wings and going his own way. A few more goons come over, and
Steve takes them down with no problem before more take their
place. It's just busy work to Steve, but it's still a serious
situation, and Steve's trying to keep an eye on the team as he
fights, making sure all of them are okay. The only one he can't
see though, is Stark, which... does set him off a little.
Suddenly, Stark's next to him, kicking away an AIM goon and
firing some repulsor blasts. Steve doesn't even have time to
sign or roll his eyes as Stark mocks him, asking if Steve's
counting on him to get killed. Right now, Steve's main concern
is stopping AIM, not crossing his fingers for Stark's demise. He
has his team to worry about, and AIM to worry about, and Tony is
neither one of those things.
Clint's voice comes over the comm, saying something doesn't look
good, and Steve collides his shield with the head of a goon
before looking at Clint to see what he's talking about. Clint's
looking up, and Steve's eyes dart up to see something that
resembles a bomb. He places his finger over the comm, about to
tell the team to stay clear of it, but Stark's already saying
that he's got it, flying up towards it.
"Stark!" Steve yells after him, the sound of a blast coming
towards him. He dodges it, throwing his shield and looking back
up at Stark just in time to see the bomb explode, knocking Tony
back. Steve stares as Tony starts plummeting down, and he
wonders why Stark's not flying, but soon realizes that Iron
Man's eyes and repulsors aren't glowing... and neither is the
outside reactor.
"Sh*t," he curses, and tries to use the comm to tell Falcon to
stop Tony's fall, but the comms aren't working, and Tony
crashes. Steve curses again, everything almost a blur as he
rushes over to Stark's side, ripping off his faceplate. Tony's
eyes are closed and he's not responding. Quickly, Steve starts
ripping the suit apart, his own heart beating so loud he could
almost hear it. The chest plate is the first thing Steve rips
off, and he freezes when he sees that the arc reactor isn't
glowing.
"I need backup over here!" Steve shouts, hands on Tony's chest.
He doesn't know what to do... he has never dealt with anything
like this before. "Where's Maria?" he yells, eyes searching for
the woman. He puts his hear over Tony's heart, and still hears
it beating, but it's slowing, and Steve's starting to panic.
They need a back up reactor. They need something. All their tech
has been shutdown, and Stark... Stark can't die.

Maria had watched Stark fall, fast, and hit the
ground hard. She running as soon as she hears her name being
called -- the comms aren't working, but she can hear Steve's
bellow even from where she is. When they're close enough, she
drops to her knees beside Steve, examining. Stark lays,
unconscious, half his armor ripped off (courtesy of Rogers,
she's sure), with a curiously unlit expanse of chest. The shape
of the reactor can be seen clearly through Stark's shirt, but
it's not glowing, which means it's not on.
"What are we supposed to do about that?" Maria says. The
Commander seems... upset. A bit odd, since he possibly hates
Stark more than she does. "Jump start it?" assuming there's
anything electronic within the vicinity still working. She taps
against her earpiece, but receives no kind of feedback.
"There's a flare on the Quinjet," Clint pipes in, as he runs
over. He looks suddenly unsure, glancing at the unconscious form
of Stark with something like fear. "I can go get that?"

Steve doesn't know why he's so desperate, clutching onto
Tony like he's the one dying. Maria, thankfully, comes over when
he calls, dropping to her knees beside him and observing the
damage. She asks what they're suppose to do about that, meaning
the arc reactor, and Steve feels so useless, staring at her,
waiting to see if she has an answer to her own question. They
need an idea and fast.
Maria suggests a jump start, and hope returns to Steve's eyes,
looking back down at Tony and ripping open his undersuit to
expose his chest, the arc reactor dead inside of it. He hears
Clint says there's a flare in the Quinjet, and says he can go
get it, but it's more of a question. Tony doesn't have enough
time for questions.
"Yes, go get it," he orders, waving Clint away. "Just do
something," he goes on before looking at Tony's face, all
peaceful and relaxed. "I can't just let him die," Steve finds
himself saying, not even caring anymore. This wasn't what he
wanted. He never really wanted anything like this to happen.
Steve would never really wish death upon Stark, no matter how
much he thinks he despises him.

Tony thinks he hears a distress flare going off. He
doesn't understand why. Are they in distress?
He opens his eyes, body convulsing, before he turns over and
expels anything still left in his stomach. It burns terribly
coming up, likely as a result of the alcohol, and Tony feels
like his throat is on fire. His head, though, is the worst of
it, and possibly what made him throw up in the first place. When
he's done, he collapses onto his back, shaking. His chest aches,
and he feels almost unbearably cold. It's only then that he
realizes that there are people staring at him, and he's got half
his suit ripped off of him. He looks down at himself.
His under-suit is ripped open. The reactor's light is gone.
"What did you do to me?" Tony demands, his hand flying up. He
clicks the reactor out of place, and twists it back in. Nothing.
He looks up at Steve with something like fury and, mostly
undoubtedly, fear. "What the hell did you do to me?!"
