"So what you are saying is that you want me to join
your... secret team?" T'Challa asks even though it doesn't sound
like much of a question, sharpening his fake claws.
"That's exactly what I'm saying. I've already got Clint, and I
knew I could always count on you," Steve says, leaning against
the edge of the table in T'Challa's room.
T'Challa stays quiet for awhile, as if in deep thought as he
continues his work of sharpening. "Of course you can always
count on me, Commander, but the question is if I can always
count on you. I heard about your breakdown with Stark. That
shows a lack of leadership." T'Challa looks up, a frown on his
face, but his answer already seems clear. He wants to join
Steve, he just wants to make sure that Steve won't have another
mental breakdown.
"I know it does, and you know that when it comes to lack of
leadership, I've got the least of it."
T'Challa shrugs and smiles a half-smile. "Don't know if should
exactly be saying that to a king," he jokes, setting his claws
aside before standing. "I'm in, but Steve, just promise me that
this is for the better benefit of everyone, and not just some
way to try to prove that you're better than Stark."
"I promise," Steve says, walking over to T'Challa and placing a
hand on his shoulder. "Besides, Stark was the one who suggested
I do this."

Tony had gotten the call some ten minutes ago, and
from them on out he'd been fuming. Somehow, the message had been
delayed, and Tony knows they'll be a half hour late to the
battle, if there's anything left to fight. Of course, he would
have been there sooner, but for some reason half the team was
missing and it had taken twice as long to gather everyone up and
get going.
When Tony finally lands by the location, his team of Pete, Thor,
and Natasha close by, he sees a very curious amount of nothing
going on, and then something he almost can't believe: members of
his own team already at the scene.
"Little late, Director," remarks Clint with a smirk, fiddling
with the tips of his arrows.
"Where the hell have you been?" Tony demands, looking around the
group gathered around Rogers; Clint, T'Challa, Maria, and
Sharon. "You've just decided that you're not running things by
me anymore? If I had known you were here, I wouldn't have wasted
time and resources getting here myself."

Steve's talking to Sharon about cleanup by the time he
hears Clint welcome Stark, the man of the hour asking where they
have been. He turns around to see Stark, fuming, asking
questions, saying he had wasted time. By his side is Thor (who
didn't really want Steve and Tony fighting, so chose not to go
with Steve), Peter (who didn't join for the same reasons), and
Natasha, who Steve has no idea why she didn't join. Lately, she
seems like she has been trying to keep her distance from Steve,
and it's really hurting Steve because they were partners. She
was there to help him find Bucky, and had frankly always been
there for him, but now he's without her, and Clint seems to be
without her more too.
"You told me to start my own team, Director, so that's what I
did," Steve says, approaching the man a little more, Sharon
right behind him. "In other words, I'm just following orders."
"Sorry to waste your time, sir," says Sharon bitterly, crossing
her arms. T'Challa remains silent, but stands on Steve's other
side, eying the men and woman in front of them. Steve can't help
but feel like hes still in a war zone.

Tony takes a step closer as the Commander, the latter
looking pleased with his explanation of all this. Tony is
shocked by the amount of stupidity displayed before him --
Rogers not only wasted his time, but could have injured others,
too. If the entire roster of heroes was gone on another mission,
and something else sprang up, a lot more people could get hurt.
"You think this is a game?" Tony demands, flipping the faceplate
up so he can look Rogers in the eye. "You think this is funny?
You're not being clever, Commander. You are a child with a
vendetta, and if you think that dividing communication and
manpower is going to help anybody then you are sorely mistaken.
I don't care if you hate me. But it wasn't just my time you
wasted." Tony doesn't have to motion for Steve to get the gist
of who he's referring to. Natasha looks twice as furious as
Tony, and if looks could kill then Clint would be utterly and
completely dead.
"Start your own team," Tony spits, "I don't really give a sh*t.
But you are still under SHIELD regulations, and you need to let
me know the next time you go traipsing off to save the
day."

Steve frowns and grits his teeth as Stark asks if he
thinks this is all just a game, throwing his faceplate up. He
goes on to ask if he thinks this is funny, tells him that he's
not clever, that he's a child, and that he doesn't care if he
hates him. Steve's hands turn into fists, and Sharon looks
sorely angry as well as Tony says that they're still under
SHIELD regulations.
"Do you really think I give a damn about your SHIELD
regulations? Look at what your regulations have done to us,
Stark! You're sending teenagers on top secret mission, yet you
expect me to tell you every single move I make?" Steve asks,
voice nothing but a low growl. "You can't expect everything to
go your way anymore, Stark, you've made more enemies than you
can't count because of your leadership, and I'm done following
orders from a man who can't even take care of himself much less
an entire team," he spats, feeling Sharon's arm loop around his.
"We did your damn job for you, Stark, you should be proud," he
grits out before he starts walking away, his team slowly
following him.

Tony watches Steve leave with his group, all looking defiant and
uncaring, except, perhaps, for Clint, who looks at Natasha like
he almost regrets his decision. Apparently, he doesn't regret it
enough for him to change his mind, because at the lack of
response from Natasha's face, he simply turns back to Steve and
keeps walking.
"Back to base," Tony growls quietly to his turn, already turning
around and stalking through them back to the Quinjet. He knows,
realistically, that what Steve did was wrong, but there's part
of his argument that has a point -- if Tony can't take care of
himself, how can he take care of anybody else?

Bruce has heard... things.
He's kind of glad he didn't get involved with it all in the
first place, even if that meant the only reason Steve didn't ask
him like he did the others was because he thought he would
follow Tony to the end and back. No, he hadn't minded, and he
had thought that it would be simple to avoid the repercussions.
That's not so true anymore, especially with the mission that
he'd heard about. Whatever all this is, it's escalating in a way
Bruce doesn't like.
Around lunchtime Bruce waits in the mess hall until he sees the
Commander sit down. It's not exactly a conversation that needs
to be held in private, and Bruce figures this is less...
confrontational.
"Commander," he says formally, sitting down across from him. "I
heard you were forming a team." There's a salt shaker on the
table, and Bruce picks it up, turning it over in his hands a few
times for something to look at. "I'd like to know your
intentions," he adds quietly, not demanding, just asking. Bruce
isn't here for a fight, and he's not here to tell Steve what
he's doing is wrong. He just wants to make sure that this whole
thing doesn't turn sour.

Steve gets a salad today, not really hungry at all, but
knowing Sharon will scold him if he doesn't eat. There's no one
really in the cafeteria, so he just sits at an empty table,
waiting for Sharon. To be honest, he can't stop thinking about
everything that has been going on for the past few weeks.
Bucky's death, beating Stark, Peter's mission, forming his own
team. He just doesn't know how to feel about all of it. Nothing
seems to be going right, but then again, it also seems like
things just can't be right ever again.
Then, suddenly, Bruce sits in front of him, and he can already
feel where things are going. Sure enough, Bruce talks about his
team, asking what his intentions are, and Steve sighs, mixing
his salad around. He likes Bruce, he really does, but he feels
like he and Bruce are growing much more distant these days since
it seems like Bruce will forever be on Tony's said about
everything.
"Contrary to popular belief, Doctor, I'm not doing this to get
on Stark's bad side or to prove anything," he starts off,
keeping simple. "I don't see Tony as a fit leader, and don't
wish to be under his order all the time. The Director told me to
start my own team, so therefore I did. This way Stark can run
things the way he wants to, and so can I," he explains before
taking a bite of his food, chewing softly and then swallowing.
"I don't do this in hopes to cause any trouble, I do this to
make thing better and the team safer. I think anyone can say
that Stark and I work better when we're apart."

Bruce doesn't care to argue as Steve says he and Tony
work better apart. That, that is definitely true. The Director
and Commander are polar opposites. Iron Man and Captain
America... well, that's a different story, and seeing as how
neither of them can differentiate work from personal life
anyways Bruce supposes it still doesn't apply, even though they
could be, and have been, a fantastic duo.
"I don't think you're wrong to want this," Bruce says calmly,
still handling the salt shaker, "Sometimes a change of power is
a good thing. In Tony's case it might even be for the best."
Steve claims that the two can now run things the way they want,
but Bruce can tell that Tony doesn't really want to run
anything. "I just don't want it taken too far. Natasha looks
like she's contemplating killing Clint in his sleep. I've never
seen a wedge like that between them." Bruce looks up, peeking
over the rim of his glasses at Steve. "I guess it all comes down
to how many ties you're willing to sever."

[shadow=#B6B6B4,left]"I'm loyal to nothing... except the

Steve waits for what he thinks is just going to be Bruce
telling him how wrong he is. However, he receives quite the
opposite. Bruce tells Steve that he doesn't think what he's
doing is wrong, and that this is probably best for Tony, which
Steve is not against at all. He may despise Stark, but that
doesn't mean that he doesn't want him to be happy. Bruce then
goes on to tell him that he doesn't want this to go too far,
that Clint and Natasha seem to be... falling apart due to this.
That makes Steve stop because he too has realized the tension
between his two friends, if Natasha even is still his friend.
"I don't want to sever anything," he explains, setting his fork
down and sliding his food to the side. "I know Natasha doesn't
like Stark and I fighting, and I no you don't either, or Thor,
or Peter, but I can't help that right now, and I am trying to
make things less difficult. I just can't help but run into Stark
every now and again," he continues explaining, looking Bruce in
the eyes. "I just want everything to be okay again, Bruce, but I
just don't see how that can happen," he admits, not really sure
why he's telling Bruce all of this. The man just has this...
aura to him that makes people trust him.

Bruce listens carefully to Steve as he explains. He
knows that right now, everyone is angry and rash and more than a
little bit confused, and everybody's story has another side that
a lot of people aren't willing to listen to. Bruce doesn't
really like to rule anyone out as inherently evil until he's got
an idea of the big picture.
"Things could fall into place," Bruce assures Steve, setting
down the salt shaker and putting it back down in it's original
place. "Sometimes life has a way of sorting itself out. But
prepare for the worst. You and Tony fighting could lead to
bigger problems. People could get more angry, more hurt. As long
as it feels right to you, though, keep going. Make sure that you
actually want to do what everybody else is telling you to."
Bruce, as well as everyone else, has seen the effects if you
don't. Slowly, Bruce gets up, adjusting his glasses on his nose.
So many new pairs, and they always seem to slip. "The road to
hell is paved with good intentions," Bruce reminds Steve softly,
and with that, shuffles quietly out of the cafeteria.
