Steve doesn't fail to miss the look on Tony's face as he
turns and sees the laptop screen. How could he miss it anyways,
Tony just keeps on staring at it. It was a little heartbreaking,
in fact, and Steve could tell this was very, very important to
Tony. He never planned on revealing is secret, though, that's
for sure. Still, he couldn't shake the wonder and questions in
his head about how and why Tony was a missing person after all
these years. A fourteen year old kid running away from home for
years just didn't sound that normal. Why had Tony left? How long
had he been alone? How did he take care of himself?
"Don't tell anyone," he hears Tony beg, watching the man pull
his knees up to his chest in a defensive move. Oh.... Steve
blinks as Tony goes on, practically telling Steve he'd rather be
ran over than exposed to the public. He closes his laptop with a
click, sliding it back into his bag and taking a step closer to
Tony, expression still serious, but softer. He knows Tony's
frightened and worried, and that's the reaction Steve had
wanted, but now he just wants him to be okay.
"I won't tell anyone," he promises, not smiling, but not looking
upset either. "I never planned on telling anyone. I just didn't
want you to make another stupid mistake because of me," he goes
on, taking yet another step closer to Tony. "I guess it's really
none of my business about the whole missing person thing, but...
well... you have something of mine." Yep, that's Steve, always
wanting to get right down to business the first opportunity he
sees. "I went on my bank account today to find five hundred
dollars missing from my account, and a lovely little note from
'T'." Steve fixes Tony with a stern, but yet still indulgent
look. His original plan had been to demand the money back from
Tony, but now, truly thinking about it, most traces of anger
gone, Steve can't really think about anything he was really
going to do with that five hundred out of over one billion
dollars. It's not like he really needed it, and it appeared that
Tony needed it more than him, which... wasn't a bad idea once
you thought about it.
"Listen," Steve begins again, sighing quietly. "You can keep the
money, but only on one condition." Ah yes, the catch. There's
always a catch, especially went it came to stealing from Steve
Rogers. However, this little catch was going to be... different.
"I want you to give our friendship another try," he admits,
lowering his head a little due to embarrassment, blushing only a
tad, tad bit. "I know we just met yesterday, and things kinda
got... misunderstood, but, you know, I think we could have
something good here, and I really don't want to stop speaking to
you or stop seeing you just because I got a bit clueless last
night," he explains, still not looking Tony in the eye. Was he
really offering Tony five hundred dollars for
friendship?

Tony watches Steve's expression changes slightly,
becoming a little softer as he stows away his laptop and takes a
step closer. Tony shies away, not trusting him for an instant.
What's he gonna do now? Shake Tony until he gives him his money
back? Tony doesn't care about the money, god, he'll just fix
Steve's account and he can be on his way and Tony can just not
get found out, he can live in this little world he's build for
himself and not have to worry about people finding out about
him, not have to worry about anybody telling anybody anything--
"I won't tell anyone," Steve says, like a promise, and Tony's
stance relaxes a bit at the immediate relief he feels. He
watches Steve warily as the man continues, stepping closer once
again (Tony wishes he would stop doing that, honestly, it makes
him edgy) and going on about the money Tony's stolen, his face
becoming more stern. Tony flashes him a crooked smile, but
understands that it's not really the time to make jokes, so he
keeps quiet while Steve continues, giving the atypical on one
condition speech... though his terms are... a little peculiar.
Tony watches -- with a little flare of warmth that he quickly
douses -- a small blush spread it's way across Steve's cheek,
before fading just as quickly. Tony knows he's still attracted
to Steve -- despite the rage he'd been in last night, a lot of
it was because it wasn't exactly fair how hot, and,
unfortunately, straight, Steve was. But Tony can ignore the
flickers in his gut, he does it all the time, it's not a big
deal. Steve's condition to be friends, however, makes things a
little more difficult.
Making friends is not the problem. The problem is keeping them.
Tony had made friends with Steve last night, and then ruined it
in probably the least efficient way possible. That's usually the
way Tony Stark ends all his relationships -- unnecessarily
complicated and messy. So excuse him for having to take the time
to think it over -- making an actual conscious effort at this is
a little daunting.
And, you know, it's not the money that Tony's considering to be
the bribe. It's the bribe that somebody actually wants to try to
be his friend.
Slowly, Tony slides off the window, and Dummy jumps on, sitting
close to Tony and ogling Steve with his big yellow eyes. Tony
tilts his head down and looks at Steve over the tops of his
sunglasses, eyebrows raised. "Friends," he says, his lips
quirking up into a vaguely amused smirk. "I basically told you
to go f*ck yourself and you still want to be friends? More
importantly, that's all you want?" He laughs, short and light,
and shakes his head (ow?). "I tried to have sex with you last
night," he points out, because, hey, maybe Steve forgot? It
seems likely that he would have forgotten. That's pretty much a
dealer-breaker, isn't it? Would he really want to be friends if
he had remembered that? "And that's just... not a problem for
you?"

Steve smiles as Tony slides off the window sill, finally
letting the smile reach his eyes. Then a cat jumps on the
window, a cat Steve hadn't noticed before and was staring at him
with yellow eyes. Tony has a cat? That was... pretty adorable,
actually. Steve didn't imagine Tony would have a pet, especially
not a cat. Steve puts it in his mind to make sure to pet the cat
later. He likes cats. He likes dogs more, but cats could be
cool. Steve's old next door neighbor used to have cats.
Forty-seven cats, to be honest. Heaven only knows how she
managed to take care of all those felines.
Steve focuses back on Tony as he starts to speak, thinking about
his words and their meaning. Yes, Tony had tried to have sex
with Steve last night, and he knew that attraction probably
wan't going to go away (it usually didn't), but Steve didn't
mind. I mean, Bucky had hit on Steve as well before they had
become friends, and now he lets the man stay over anytime he
wants. Also, about the whole insults thing, Tony had been drunk,
so Steve could easily forgive him for that.
Steve shrugs at Tony's question, walking over to him to scratch
Tony's cat behind the ears, smiling fondly at the creature.
"It's not a problem with me as long as it's not a problem with
you," he replies, glancing up at Tony. "I'm actually sort of
flattered that you'd try to sleep with me," he continues,
shrugging again. He continues to scratch Dummy for a few moments
before adding, "By the way, if I made you think last night that
I was homophobic, I'm not. I think people should be allowed to
love or be attracted to whoever they'd like. It's not really
their fault anyways, right?" The question is completely
rhetorical, of course. "I just don't happen to be attracted to
men, but who knows, there's always room for change." A joke.
That was totally a joke. Of course, it wasn't like it wasn't
true or anything, but Steve was joking. He doubts he'd ever be
attracted to men. Besides, wouldn't he sort of already know if
he was attracted to guys?
Steve stares at Tony for awhile, looking him up and down,
keeping an open heart and mind and, nope, no attraction. Sure,
Tony was quite easy on the eyes, but Steve respected that, he
didn't worship in it or anything. Maybe Steve was just one of
those guys who was never meant to be bi. I mean, there had to be
some straight guys in the world, right? Whelp, that was it then;
Tony was bi, and Steve was straight, and they were possibly
going to become friends.
"So, uh, whaddya say? You get to keep five hundred dollars in
exchange for being dragged into a crazy friendship?" Steve asks,
chuckling and looking Tony in the eyes now, or, well, shades,
really.
Oh yes, this was going to be one heck of a ride.

Tony watches Steve, watches him walk closer, get
right up in Tony's space to reach over and pet the cat. Dummy
immediately starts purring, nuzzling up into Steve's hand
enthusiastically. God, he's such a weird cat. Why does Tony
always snag the weird ones? Humans included, Tony thinks, as
Steve goes on to reply. Flattered. That word strikes Tony
as particularly funny, and he rolls his eyes, smirking. Oh,
I'm hot? Thank you! Yeah, like Steve hadn't realized it
beforehand. Tony would spend every day looking at himself
in the mirror if he looked like that. And no, Tony
doesn't think Steve is homophobic. He seems like the kind of guy
that's chill with just about anything, as long as it's not
hurting anyone. Steve's last comment draws a genuine snort out
of Tony, which he quickly muffles with a hand. Room for change.
Right. Even if that hadn't been a joke, Tony's amused, because
he's not going to waste his time trying to make Steve gay for
his own enjoyment.
Jokes aside, though, the whole 'friend' offer is still on the
table, and Tony needs to make a decision about that. He stares
for a moment. Realistically, it shouldn't be a hard decision.
Tony's only making it hard on himself. Crazy friendship, and
five hundred dollars? The answer is obvious, right?
Tony sighs through his nose and turns around, facing his
computer. He wakes it up, and five seconds later he's giving
Steve the access to his bank account back. Easy, simple. He
turns back around, taking his shades off to make this more
official. "As long as it's crazy," he smiles, broad and
bright, and sticks his hand out for a handshake. "Let's start
over, okay? Oh my god, you're Steve Rogers, you're famous. I'm
Tony. Would you like a cup of coffee?"

Steve waits for Tony's answer, sticking his hands in his
pockets. The silence after a question like the one he just asked
wasn't a good sign to him. Tony was going to say no probably
because he thinks that things would be awkward or something,
which, who knows, it might get a bit awkward, but that hasn't
stopped Steve before. Or maybe Tony's going to say no for a
different reason, some unknown reason that Steve will probably
never figure out. Maybe he had been to much of an ass or a
let-down last night, or maybe threatening Tony that he was going
to reveal his secret had taken things too far.
Steve watches Tony walk over to his computer, looking slightly
nervous. Come on, Tony, answer, he urges in his head. He sees
Tony go on to what looked like his bank account, and pressed
some keys, unlocking it for Steve. Oh, okay, maybe he has a
chance of being Tony's friend after all. Or maybe he's going to
give Steve his account back and then tell him to leave. Was he
being judgmental? Probably. He really needs to stop jumping to
conclusions and just focus on the overwhelming suspense Tony was
creating.
Then, Tony turns around, taking his shades off. "As long as it's
crazy," he says, causing Steve's face to light up. Oh yes, it
was going to be crazy. No doubt about it. A famous, rich,
straight novelist with a kind personality mixed with the missing
person listed, thief, bi... whatever he really does in his spare
time besides steal guy with an... interesting personality. It
might not sound or seem crazy now, but from the things Bucky has
told him, it was going to be a pretty eventful friendship. And
that's what Steve needed, really, someone to open him up and
show him what it's like to live and have an adventure. Steve
hasn't done any of those things since the war, and he needed
someone to bring the old him back.
Steve smiles at Tony's extended hand and the his own smile,
thankful that the man was willing to start over. "It's nice to
meet you, Tony," he says, taking Tony's warm, smaller hand again
and giving it a firm shake. "A cup of coffee sounds
great."

Tony grins a little wider at Steve, shaking his hand
firmly before they separate. He steps back, going to go get
another mug as well as his own, but Dummy leaps at him before he
can move, landing squarely on his shoulder and digging his claws
in. Tony yells, about to shove him off, but the cat seems only
to be using Tony's shoulder for more height because he leaps off
and latches onto Steve's shoulder instead, curling around the
back of his neck, purring loudly, rubbing his head against
Steve's hair and flicking his tail on his cheek.
"F*ck," Tony says, caught between wanting to laugh and
wanting to celebrate in joyous jubilation that Dummy not picking
on him anymore. "Sorry, he's... just, throw him off,
he doesn't mind. If you kill him I may even kiss you again."
He doesn't even look like he's kidding. With that and a rather
hateful glare to the cat on Steve's shoulders, he goes to get
his mug, and heads into the kitchen to get one for Steve. He
fills both mugs and puts them on the counter, turning to the
fridge. "How do you take your coffee?" he asks, throwing
the question over his shoulder while he rummages around for
wherever he left the creamer. Oh, right. He left it on the
counter. Tony will drink coffee no matter what it is or how it's
prepared, but most of the time he sweetens it just a
little.

Steve laughs as the cat jumped onto Tony's shoulder,
clinging onto him desperately. Tony, however, seemed more
desperate to get the cat off of him before the cat leaped and
landed on Steve.
Steve was surprised at first, thinking, there's a cat on me,
before the fluffy creature settles down and starts to purr. He
smiles and chuckles, reaching up to pet the friendly cat some
more as Tony tells him to throw the cat off of him. He looks up
when Tony mentions kissing him again, and it looks as though the
man wasn't kidding. Well, no offense to Tony, but he doesn't
really want another kiss, nor does he want to kill the cat he's
seemed to made friends with. It's fluffy and big and brown, with
little white paws, and Steve thinks it's cute, though he really
wants to know his name.
Tony walks off, no doubt to fetch Steve's coffee, and he's left
with the furry beast around his shoulders, still purring up a
storm as he pets him fondly. "So what's you name, cat?" Steve
asks, knowing his talking to a cat but not really caring
because, come one, who hasn't talked to an animal before? He
scratches behind the cat's ear again, chuckling to himself. Why
does Tony hate the cat so much? Steve likes him.
Right as Steve starts batting playfully at the cat, Tony asks
how he likes his coffee, and he chuckles once more before
answering, "Just black, please!" and returning to his little
playmate. Yeah, Steve's not much of a coffee person unlike
Bucky, but he does prefer he cup every now and again, especially
when it's just black and bitter. It was classic and
old-fashioned, but a lot of things about Steve were
old-fashioned, and he likes it that way and doesn't plan on
changing his habits any time soon.
Steve moves out of the bedroom and into the living room,
standing in the right between the kitchen and the living room,
the cat still on his shoulders as he pets it slowly. "So tell
me, Stark, if you're not a banker, then what are you?" he asks,
curious and wanting to make conversation. At least with knowing
Tony's secret, Steve feels like he can trust Tony
better.

Tony follows Steve's request a leaves his coffee as
is, adding a bit of sugary goodness to his own and snatching it
up in his hand again. He watches as Steve comes out of the
bedroom with Dummy still on his shoulders, and Tony feels a
flicker of something he deems irritation at that. "Dumb cat," he
mutters darkly, pushing the mug on the counter towards Steve.
Steve goes on to ask Tony a question, and Tony looks up at him
blankly while Dummy (who was just batting excitedly at his new
friend's hand) hops down from Steve's shoulders, trots over to a
bar stool and hops up on it, his front paws on the counter to
lean from Steve's mug. Tony scowls at him, lifting the mug in
the air and accidentally-on-purpose spilling some of his own
coffee. There, that should keep the flea-ridden thing busy for a
while.
Tony walks over to Steve, holding out the full cup for him,
taking a sip of his own coffee at he regards Steve's question.
His head starts to pound again, so Tony pushes his sunglasses
back over his eyes. He needs an Advil, or something. When was
the last time he even went shopping? "That's a very good
question," Tony says eventually, kind of talking to himself and
Steve, wandering over to the couch and sitting down on it,
drawing his tablet into his lap again. "Genius, billionaire,
playboy, philanthropist?" He laughs quietly to himself, turning
around in his seat to give Steve an uneasy smile. "Alright,
well, the genius part is true. I got kind of tired of being a
billionaire. I'm working on the playboy part, and, uh, I'm not
rich enough to be a philanthropist, which brings us right back
to not-a-billionaire-anymore." He turns back to his tablet,
frowning at it as he tries to work. It's harder with someone in
the apartment, like company blocks his thought process, or
something.

Steve watches the cat ditch him, going over to his
coffee instead in which Tony quickly snatches away, spilling
some of his coffee. He knew that Tony had done it on purpose,
but also knew that he'd probably deny it if Steve pointed that
out. It was sweet no matter what, even though coffee probably
wasn't something you should give to your cats. Now the thing was
probably going to be more jumpy and crazy. Steve still doesn't
even know why the cats here. So far he hasn't seen a littler-box
or food bowls. Did the cat even belong to Tony?
Steve takes his coffee when Tony offers it to him, taking a few,
quick sips as Tony considers his question. Finally, he begins to
answer, sitting on the couch in which Steve follows him over to,
sitting down next to him and crossing his legs, leaning back as
he sipped his coffee. He laughs at Tony's answer and analysis of
the question, pondering his answer for a few moments. "So you're
sort of like Hugh Hefner," he decides, swilling the remains of
his coffee around before finishing it off. "Except the fact that
he's married and lives in a huge house with a ton of money and
kids even though he's eighty-seven." Steve looks down at his
empty mug before placing it on the coffee table and turning to
look at Tony, a joking smile on his face. "You aren't
eighty-seven, are you, because that would just be weird and make
last night even more awkward." He's kidding, of course, but he
felt like he just had to say it, standing up and taking his
empty mug with him, putting it in the sink and turning on the
water, deciding to wash his own dishes.

Tony laughs along with Steve's joke, abandoning his
tablet to talk. Steve gets up with his mug, probably to go set
it in the sink or something. Tony watches him walk, swinging his
feet onto the couch so he's sitting sideays on it. Dummy stands
up straight, apparently done cleaning the counter, swiping his
tongue over his mouth and then leaping onto the head of the
couch and rolling into his back, paws waving in the air. Tony
pokes his belly. He mews.
"You wouldn't believe the miracles of moisturizer," Tony
says with a chuckle, getting back to the joke at hand. He
swallows the remains of his coffee and sets it on the coffee
table, then reaches to scratch Dummy's chin absentmindedly.
"For the record, I would make a much better Hugh Hefner than
Hugh Hefner. Much more handsome, much more charming. I could
snag anyone sixty years younger than me even without flaunting
my money." Dummy starts batting and biting at his hand with
wild eyes, using all four paws to try and latch on. Tony swats
at him, frowning. "Stop," he tells the cat sternly.
"God, you're useless."
