Yo Hablo Espanolo, Senoro! (Megan and Sara)
   DIR By: Sara

       ---------------------------------------------------------
"Chels, PLEASE girl I need you to pick up Hanna. I am in MAJOR
crisis mode and I have no IDEA what to do!" Before Chelsea can
ask me what's wrong I say, "I promise to talk to you about it
later, really, I do, but right now...I just need to figure this
out. I am so SCREWED!" I massage my temples with my fingers
after I hang up and sit on my bed, staring at the email on my
computer and just thinking to myself...I need help.
"Dude...don't be dumb." I look at the text message from Chelsea,
and moments later comes the second half. "Our RA is Megan
       Rodriguez...ask her for help."
I am NOT one to humble myself, or to ask for help, but this is
seriously way over my head. In the summer, when the Spanish
placement test was online, it said very clearly that you should
NOT use any electronic aids, dictionaries, etc. But I really
wanted out of my language requirement (I'm HORRIBLE with
languages), so I might've peeked online once or twice...or three
times. Good news: I placed out! Bad news: I got to campus and
found out I had to take another placement test to complete that
process. There's just one problem...I've taken a total of 3
years of high school spanish, and I don't know ANYTHING. Oh
yeah. And the placement test's tomorrow.
I look at the texts again and shoot back a quick, "thanks,
Chels." Then I head down the hallway to Megan's door, and knock.
She asks who it is, and I call back, "It's Sara...I know you're
busy with your own first day of classes and stuff, but I was
wondering if you had a sec?"

"and how is the first few days going baby"
I sigh and look at my list of things I need to get done soo much
stuff on my list. Three hour call with my mom is not one of
them. I lean onto my fist, my elbow on the desk . I smile just a
little "your baby is fine Ma, I actually was just about to head
down my dorms and check on everyone"
I was just telling Tabs about you being an RA this year when she
came over for the book club...she was just so excited for you"
"ma seriously, I wish I could talk but.."
" she was disappointing you never stopped by before you left,
you know she used to teach kindergarten she could have given you
       some pointers"
"When one of my girls starts eatin paste or starts having
frequent accidents I will give her a call"
*KNOCK KNOCK* "Ma that is one of my girls I really gotta go OK I
       love you so much...byes"
I quickly hang up just as she is about to start up again and go
to the door opening it to let her in "I have a sec what can I do
for you" I sit on my bed leaving her my desk chair if she needs
       it

"Thanks," I smile at Megan and take the seat she offers me. I
draw my knees into my chest thoughtfully, then go right into it.
"I am really, really sorry to bother you...but I just got an
email notification saying I have to retake my Spanish placement
test. I took it last June when I got accepted, but that was back
when I was actually speaking Spanish for school and stuff.
Now...I have no idea how I'm going to pass it, because I don't
remember anything. I swear I wiped my mind clean of all Spanish
knowledge..." I shake my head and sort of shrug. "I'm sorry to
bother you with this...but you said at the floor meeting....I
don't know. I was wondering if you'd help me? Or you know
someone who could tutor me just once or twice before the test?
       Because it's sort of...tomorrow."

I listen to Sara and know full well what is going on . I lift up
my phone and text back one of the other RA's and ask her to take
care of the floor for the night and I will take care of hers on
Friday. I then turn to Sara "sounds like you need a cram session
majorly so lets call for some chinease and make a night of
it...I have to keep an eye on things a bit around here but for
the most part I am yours for the night and I will help you as
       much as I can"
I pause then smile "OOORrr how about we get out of these walls
for a while and go to my favorite Mexican resturnat in town...we
can study up there and maybe get some help from the waiters at
the same time...what do you thinK?"

I sigh with relief at what Megan says. The look in her eye makes
me think she knows more than she's letting on, but as long as
she helps me I don't care what she knows! "Thank you," I say,
breathing out a sigh of relief. "Mexican sounds great but
um...do the waiters speak English? Because I swear I have
forgotten ever word of Spanish I ever learned."
She's looking at me like Are you serious? and I moan, putting my
head in my hands. "Seriously...I'm dead. If I don't at least
place into the final level, never mind placing out, the school's
going to know what I did and I'm going to get expelled and I
just got here!" I'm speaking to myself, but out loud...not a
great habit. Remind me to fix that...soon.

I have to shake my head at the spanish waiters comment "well I
guess then theres no better tim ethan now to get you up to
speed" I roll my eyes "were you one of those test out by google
searching?" she blushes and I shake my head
       "Not smart Sara just sayin...."
I take my small back and make sure I have my keys as I head for
the door while walking down the halls I add in "during the day
you can chelsea make a lot of noise....you sure you are not
keepin a pup in there or something?" I say joking.
"its not far just up the road some"
"so ok what do we need to get through ...just the basics right?

She asks about testing out by google searching and I am half
       embarrassed, half relieved...because apparently that's a thing,
which means I am not the only one. Less likely to end up
       expelled then? Maybe?
She says not smart and I nod. "Yeah...figured that out today
when I found out about the in-person follow up test." I shake my
head, following her down the hallway, then freeze when she asks
about a pup. My face grows white and I say rather quickly, "a
pup? No way! Chelsea's allergic to dogs. Why would you think
we'd have a dog? Crazy!" Perhaps I doth protesteth too much
because she gives me a weird look, and I make a mental note to
inform Chelsea of her new allergy to dogs.
I catch up to Megan quickly and move past that awkward moment.
"Um....well....not exactly just the basics. I kind of need to be
       fluent...by tomorrow. I placed out...completely. Google
       helped....a little with that."

"follow up tests are a pain...I will even admit that but don't
worry i will help you up to passing it" I smirk and add in "I am
not to keen on anyone else on our floor ...i have seen other
floors people and trust me...being your RA is a peice of cake
       comparitively"
"really She is ALLERGIC? She has like three back at home with
her family" I say laughing "odd " but I shrug it off anyways
"FLUENT" I say with a bit of shock " ....wow" I pause and shake
my head "ok so we will get you as far as we can and after that
you had better hope to hack into your inner diego and dora"

I grin when Megan says being our RA is a piece of cake compared
to other floors. "I hope you still think that after tonight," I
say, slightly self conscious about embarrassing myself with my
lack of Spanish speaking knowledge or ability. I sort of glide
by Megan's comments about Chelsea being allergic and having
three dogs...yeah, would've been good to remember that one.
Megan seems less confident after I tell her I need to be fluent
and I offer, "maybe the tests are on computers...then I can hack
something more useful than Diego and Dora." She looks at me like
trying to see if I'm serious and I hold up both hands. "That was
a joke..." I'm not a cheater, but I also am not above using some
tricks to pass, because right now I can't risk expulsion.

When the joke is made about Hacking I show zero enjoyment in the
joke untill her hands go up "I figured but needed to make sure"
I say stiffly only half smiling.
"Sara we really need to get you up to speed fast. Like Rapido!"
I smirk at her "I hope at least Looney tunes taught you
       something"
When we get into the resturant I look at Pepito my favorite
waiter and a friend of mine "Pepi, this is one of my wards Sara
she is trying to learn spanish in a night" he shakes her hand
and his eyes go wide "Tu esta muy loca" she looks at me and I
sigh "we have a LOT to teach you"
All before the drinks come out I go over Colors and then quiz
her like an I SPy game in the room, I then do the alphabet
teaching her the song to sing to remember all the letters.
When Pepito comes out with waters he asks in spanish anything
else to drink ladies...I turn to Sara and translate as well as
teach her Male and female adjectives to help her...
