       Soccer-Leaden-footed England plod on
towards samba party By Stine-B Jos-Plateau Nigeria, Sept 11
(Reuters) - England remain on course to
qualify for next year's World Cup finals but
the tedious nature of their 0-0 draw in Kiev
on Tuesday did little to suggest they will
bring much fun to the party. New FA
chairman Greg Dyke caused a stir last week
when he pretty much dismissed England's
chances of success in south America next
year and the boring draw against Ukraine
offered little to contradict him. ...

       Soccer-Redemption for Van Gaal as
Dutch reach World Cup Sept 11 (Reuters) - Louis van Gaal has
restored his reputation by leading the
Netherlands into the World Cup finals, a
decade after failing in the same competition
       with a highly-rated team. The 62-year-old
coach delivered the Dutch to next year's
finals in Brazil on Tuesday when they made
sure of top place in Group D with a 2-0 win
in Andorra - their seventh triumph in eight
qualifiers. The success puts Van Gaal back
among the coaching elite after he had to
       spend years rebuilding his reputation
following the failure to qualify for the 2002
       finals. ...

       Soccer-Czech coach Bilek quits after
World Cup loss to Italy PRAGUE, Sept 11 (Reuters) - Czech coach
Michal Bilek has resigned following his side's
2-1 loss to Italy in a World Cup qualifier that
all but ended the country's chances of
reaching next year's finals in Brazil. The
Czechs have endured a stuttering qualifying
campaign under Bilek, beating only Malta
and Armenia as they struggled to find the
net for a majority of their Group B games. "I
have not met the goal we have set for
ourselves and... I offer my resignation," Bilek
       said in a statement. ...
