Mistake I Made with Networking.

Im posting this as a form of "don't make the same mistakes as I
made" form of a PSA.
So, tonight, I decided to completely check my entire network
settings again, as I do every few months, and was shocked at
what I found. I had all of the required PS4 ports opened and
forwarded to my PS4, but I also noticed that I had 3 rules that
I had added, and they are not necessary.
So, for starters, I managed to have Port 80, the freaking
general internet port of all things, being forwarded to my PS4,
using FTP protocol. I also had a couple of the Xbox one ports
forwarded for some reason.
Needless to say, I deleted the port 80 rule, as well as the two
Xbox one rules, and things are drastically better, for me. I'd
just been rolling with the same setup since Xbox 360 days, and,
well, that wasn't so smart. The only reason I thought to check
them out was because I began to wonder what would happen if my
nephew's xb1, and my PS4 were connected on my network and both
vying for the same ports.

I wish I knew enough about my router settings to change things,
but there is SOOOO much in there that I'm afraid to mess
anything up.
I suppose I could upload screenshots one of these days...

If you know how to login to your router, you can easily reset
all settings back to default. Most routers will warn you before
making unnecessary changes, some will simply not allow certain
changes. (at least in my case anyway. I've owned and messed with
4 different ones now throughout my gaming days)
PortForward.com is really the only easy to use site that I'm
aware of that can walk you through opening ports.
I could possibly help you out if you'd like.
What brand of modem/router is your console hooked up to?
What platform you play on? You're a PS4 player aren't you?
You're on Xbox right? :)
The reason there isn't a one-answer-all is that it's a bit
different from one router to the next.

Curious, but what got better for you? Matchmaking, or general
overall gameplay? I have the 80 port open. Don't have any Xbox
ports tho lol. Wondering if I should get rid of the 80. I
noticed its recommended to be open for several other games I
play.

Hey, Stabbotage, I'm more than comfortable with giving you some
step-by-step instructions if you'd like them. All I need to know
is your modem, and your router model. For instance, I have an
Arris SB6183 modem, and a Netgear Nighthawk XR500 router. With
just that little bit of info, we can help you get your ports
forwarded, and I am not the least bit gunshy in offering you
help. Trust me, we won't screw this up. It's much easier than it
sounds.
