Rechargeable Batteries

Back in late June 2018 I bought my first Xbox. It was an Xbox
One S. That same day I picked up 2 sets of 4 AA rechargeable
batteries and a recharger. One year and a half later these items
keep working. I have never bought any disposable alkaline
batteries for my controllers, which work$ quite well for me.
I added a set of 4 batteries to the rotation in August 2019.
This set of batteries stopped working back in December. They do
not provide enough power to the controller even if the recharger
says that they have a full charge!
Do you know of a trick to get rechargeable batteries working
again? Is there a way to reset rechargeable batteries?

Just a shot in the dark, but sounds like you got the voltage,
but not the amps. Like a bad car battery. You can recycle a car
battery and they make new plates to make new batteries, not sure
there is much you can do for AA batteries though.
Should've went with a PS4. They have rechargeable battery packs
inside. ;D
What brand are the two sets of batteries? Any info on how long
they are supposed to last or how many charges they are supposed
to be good for?

The brand of both the batteries and the recharger is Energizer.
There are rechargeable battery packs for Xbox controllers too
but I didn't want to go that route after seeing all the problems
that my nephews had with them.
