What the hell happened to me?

I've always found pleasure in knowing that, regardless of my
age, I could always hang with the best of them in Call of Duty.
When I first got into CoD, I only played HC because I thought I
was just such a precise shot, HC would suit me better. For a
long time, it did, too.
However, precookedcow got me playing on Core during Infinite
Warfare, telling me, "it takes more skill to land consecutive
shots', etc. So, since IW, I've been playing Core, almost
exclusively. I figured it would be like riding a bike; you never
forget how to play HC. Well, I'm not sure what is happening, but
I SUCK at HC now. Im talking, double negatives. Or, I'll have a
good game with 30 kills, while someone on my time has 80
something kills, and more OBJ captures. So, I'm asking for some
help.
I always stick to the corner of the map, and work the perimeter.
The problem I'm having now is, "I dont know where the damn
perimeter us!" Seriously, these maps give me a headqche. As soon
as I think I have it figured out, I find that there's tons of
more room I need to explore. Oh, and the doors. So help me, if
CoD ever puts doors in their game again, I'll lose my shiiit.
So, I need to know, how do I get my groove back in HC? Anybody
have links to sites with the map outline?
(Now, for the truth. My peckerhead nephew thinks he's hot crap
at the game, and you'll have to see what he told me. He's good,
but he's not better than me. I have noticed that, when he plays
at his mom's apartment with ADSL internet. 10/3, with a PS4,
XB1, Alexa, Switch, Four phones, a tablet, and his laptop, he
can not be killed. Yet, when he plays at my house, with proper
internet, he can't do worth a crap. He refuses, in the face of
the evidence, to believe his crappy internet gives him some
weird advantage. Anyhow, I need tips for hardcore. I want to
shove 5his down my nephew's throat (I love him to death, but the
boy is cocky as hell)

This may seem counter-intuitive, but check out the rationale...
If you are decent at sniping or using marksman rifle, you can
feast in HC.
Reason is, no kill-cam to show where you got them from.
Its counter-intuitive because it seems like “I see why a OHK
weapon (Like sniper/DMR) is powerful in core, but even a pistol
or LMG is a OHK in HC mode.” But, as I say, with a decent scope,
you can plink ppl across the map and they cant find you for
revenge like in core mode.
I say give it a couple games and see if you like the results.

Thanks for the suggestions, they are greatly appreciated. I just
can't get these damn maps figured out. I have always been decent
enough to hold my own in a match, usually ending each year with
a 1.5KD or so, but for whatever reason, I've gone full-fledge
retard with this game. Once I get a mic, we will have to party
up.

This game is a different animal.
R'n'G doesn't really cut it on most maps anymore.
Your description of your game play should work in your favour on
this, I also like to stalk the margins and try and flank and
destroy rather than run into the centre of the map (although
this sometimes happens if I am having a Kamikaze day).
Your issue is the doors I think, unless you have played the maps
enough to know where the doorways are, likely camping spots etc
are then you are always at a disadvantage.
Maybe try playing custom matches against bots to familiarise
yourself with the maps.
I have just come back to normal rotation after playing Shoot
House and Shipment for god knows how long and while I am not
bad, I am not playing the maps anywhere near as well as I did,
just don't seem to have the awareness and ability to spot
enemies as I did before.
Maybe there is a cautionary tale here!!
