Does Call of Duty Need Sold?
By: mygamertagsucks Date: March 18, 2020, 5:06 pm

So, I've made the rounds on social media, and even seen someone
receive Reddit gold (whatever that is) for making the statement
that Call of Duty should do away with releasing every year, in
favor of producing one standout product every two years. My
feelings on that is complex, mainly, because I do not think Call
of Duty will be able to return to form while Activision is
calling the shots. Granted, the worst Call of Duty game seems to
outperform the next closest competitor, by a large margin no
less, so I dont see Activision selling off this IP. However, we
       can entertain the thought.
Under new ownership, I believe we would actually see a new
(actually new, not heavily repurposed) engine instead of this
Quake 98 engine. I also think that, as with everything,
sometimes a new set of eyes are needed for a project because of
fatigue, disinterest, or flat out not caring about the end
result bwcAuse they know it will always sell. With the free to
play options they have tried, it sure seems to be a hit, and a
moneymaker, so I am highly doubtful ATVI will ever sell off the
       franchise.
That being said, how do you all feel? Do you think selling the
franchise would be a good idea, for us, the players? Or do you
think it would be a disaster? If you want to see it sold, who
would you like to see purchase the game, and why? (Even though
EA is a valid answer, please dont say EA, lol. Then we would
have Battlefield of Duty, with CoD running the same engine as
       battlefield.)
Personally, I would like to see Rebellion Games (Devs of Sniper
Elite series, highly recommend giving Sniper Elite a look/see)
possibly take over developing Call of Duty. I don't know who the
publisher would be, I'm just sick of Activision and Activision's
       ways

Al depends on the direction the new publishes want to go with
       it.
It's that warzone is free otherwise I wouldn't play it. Money
       hungry sons of bitches.
But a 2 year cycle between cod installments won't be bad. As
       they feel rushed.
But the biggest upgrade cod can have as you said. Using a real
       new and better engine.
Not a reworked engine (graphics mostly)

I think the main issues would be:
       1) Releasing a game every year GUARANTEES pre-order sales from
fanboys, no matter how good/bad the game may end up being. I
got stung on BO4 (I liked BO3) with no mention of no campaign
until it was too late and atrocious game play, gamekiller for me
so never played it but they got my money anyway (digital so no
       re-sale value).
       2) For a game to have a longevity of more than a year the
developers would have to have enough ideas to keep it fresh for
that long. These guys just don't have that. They can't even
make a new game without half of the maps being re-skinned old
maps pretending its 'what the players want' when it just makes
life easier for them. When was the last COD where all the maps
       were totally fresh?

I'd like to see a 2 year cycle, and honestly, I'd be much more
willing to spend extra money for add-ons (not maps) during that
period than I am knowing that within a year I'm probably not
going to be playing this game any longer because a new version
       will be released.
