Players from other platforms
By: Gordontonio Date: March 3, 2020, 11:27 pm

I have crossplay enabled. I noticed today that most of the
lobbies I am placed in are populated with console players. There
are even lobbies where everyone is on Xbox. PC players are very
rare. Is it that PC players are grouped with PC players mostly?
Are PC players being prevented from joining lobbies where
console players are the majority? Are Xbox players so many that
we are the majority in lobbies? Does something similar happen to
you who plays on PS4 or PC?

PC player here. I too have cross play enabled and see mainly
console players. Seldom do I see PC players because they are all
in their own parties, play league now that its a thing, or are
only ever around during double xp days. A few of my PC friends
say they rarely play any Call of Duty game on PC just because
how tailored to console players CoD has become since Black Ops
4.

Honestly, I think this is just indicative of the fact that
console players continue to outnumber PC players, and by quite a
wide margin. Even though I hate Activision, I want to see CoD do
well, and it did this year. Even on PC, Modern Warfare sold
well. However, sales figures are misleading, as it only
represents a unit sold, not a unit being played. I am 99%
confident in my answer, though I don't have the hard numbers or
statistics to prove it. Once the devs quit caring about
enforcement of their ToS, and seemed to allow cheater to roam
about freely, with no consequence on PC, a lot of players just
migrated to console.
Out of curiosity, if you disable crossplay, do you notice a
difference in how long it takes to find a match? Also, when you
have crossplay disabled, how would you rate the quality of the
lobby? I'm just curious, and if you have time to give it a go
later on, I would love to hear your results.
Personally, I disabled crossplay because I'm afraid of you guys
on PC. Ill admit it, and I don't care. You PC players always
seem to be a different kind of beast. Granted, just as with
consoles, there are bound to be some players who suck on PC,
just as some suck on console, but I've always found PC players
to be much better at performing certain things. Don't you guys
have an FOV slider, which would allow you to see much more of
the playing area? I'm sure I saw where you guys do have a
slider, but, is it locked when crossplay is enabled? You're
really the only PC player that I'm friends with, so it's nice to
be able to ask someone with firsthand experience.

This is a follow up post to my first post, where I had asked
Gordontonio to compare wait time with crossplay enabled to the
wait time with crossplay disabled. Since I never ask someone to
do something I wouldn't do myself, I decided to see what my
experience would be on the PS4 with crossplay enabled/disabled.
I was surprised, and this is just my subjective results, which
were surprising to me.
Crossplay enabled: The first thing I have is a question. What
does it mean when the player has a controller, and what looks
like a tv or film screen next to it?
The first thing I did after buying the game was disabling
crossplay. I didn't mind being matched against xb1 players, but
PC players had me intimidated for some reason. So, all of my
experience up to this has been strictly PS4 vs PS4. Once I
enabled crossplay, I expected much faster matchmaking. I think
most ppl would expect faster matchmaking with crossplay enabled
due to the belief that we can now be connected with every other
player out there. Instead, it seemed to take considerably longer
to find a match on Shoot the Ship than it did with crossplay
disabled. I also got the full experience you all have been
talking about; after every good game you have, the game goes out
of its way to punish you and pit you against better players.
With crossplay disabled, I didn't really get this experience.
This, again, was surprising to me at first. Now, I think I
understand why I never had this issue with crossplay disabled,
but that would get me on a tangent. As for the lobbies, most of
them tended to be console vs console, with only one game that I
recall having a PC player in it. I should mention, I only played
shoot the ship, but PC players were rare. As for the strength of
the lobbies; I was surprised at how drastic the lobbies can be.
One game I'm smashing through potatoes that dont even aim their
gun when they are right next to me, and the next game I'm being
melted by some guy on a headglitch repeatedly. I was surprised
by how easy the "gimme" lobbies were, and frightened by how hard
the "punishment match" was.

So I found a picture of a MW pregame lobby, but it has changed
since this was taken in September of 2019.
But it is still useful to show the other system types and
controller vs. mouse icons.
First thing is to answer your question about the one with a TV
screen, that is apparently for PS4 now. (whereas they used to
have a PS4 logo as seen in the pic below--if you still see
these, then disregard most of what I'm saying because I must be
mistaken)

So the first person on the list "ilCirox" and is using a PC (as
depicted by a PC tower), they are also using a KB&M, but they
could have just as easily shown a PC tower with a controller
since PC can use either input device and so can console now (I
hate this idea b.t.w.)
The sixth person down is "maratxxx2" is using an XBOX with a
mouse.
Under this person is another PC/Mouse
Under them is a PS4 with a mouse, but if this pic was taken
today it would show a computer monitor/tv with a mouse.
I hope this helps and didn't add to the confusion.
Note: this is not my pic, but rather it is just one I found on
the internet. I could not find a recent pic with monitors/tv.

Hey, I appreciate the effort taken to explain to me what the
icons mean, but I think PS4 still shows, for me, as the little
PS logo. I'm going to go turn the game on now just to check, and
I'll post a screenshot if I can grab one.
Have you tried enabling and disabling crossplay yet, to see what
type of lobbies you wind up with? I'm just curious.

You see the PS4 logo for other players because you are a PS4
player. You should not see any Xbox logo. You will see Xbox
players as a TV screen and PC players as a tower computer.

And there's my answer! Thanks, Gordontonio.!

I'm just curious if you've tried disabling and enabling
crossplay, and what, if any, differences you found. I seemed to
get matches far quicker with crossplay enabled, but I never
measured the actual time. I also noticed that, with crossplay
enabled, I seemed to actually play against the same players for
more than one match in the Shoot the Ship playlist.
I'm just curious of everyone else's results of they tried
enabling and disabling crossplay. I will say, subjectively
speaking, my gameplay seemed far better with crossplay on, until
I would get the punishment lobby.
