Who Is Your Favorite Dev Studio, and Why?
By: mygamertagsucks Date: February 13, 2020, 2:38 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
I'm curious to hear from all of you guys/gals who your favorite
developer is for Call of Duty, and why they are your favorite.
Since I'm asking all of you, I might as well share my opinion.
As usual, this will be a longer post since I want to let
everybody know exactly how I came to this conclusion. If you
don't read all of it, you'll think I'm an idiot with no taste in
       games.
Ok, now I know I'll catch hell for this, but please hear me out
before assuming I'm just a dumbass with bad taste. My favorite
Call of Duty dev studio has got to be, hands down,
SledgeHammerGames, but for reasons you may not think.
I first got into Call of Duty during Black Ops 2, and I didn't
get really, really into it until April of it's life-cycle. BO2
was my first online multiplayer game, and I was obsessed. I was
so into the game that I wanted to learn about it, watch videos
about it, and see what others were saying about it. So I went to
YT, and to my surprise, people were saying how "this map played
better in BO1", and I heard that, A LOT. Around this time, the
hype train for Ghost was in full motion, and the first snippets
of MP had been released by some YouTubers, and all of the
comments were the same: "Isn't X map actually just Y map from
MW3, but reskinned?' Then, after launch, I got into the forums.
The forums were filled with people saying CoD was stale, lazy,
cut and paste, and no fun anymore. Here I was, new to this
community, and all I am hearing about was how much better it was
"back then" when Call of Duty was fresh, and doing new things,
and all of their maps were original.
I know at least 3 of you have been here since before BO2, so I'm
sure you remember the community, almost universally, stating
that every "new" Call of Duty was actually just last year's Call
of Duty, with the maps being reskinned. I remember, very, very
distinctly, the feeling within the community that CoD needed to
change things up because it was getting boring. I can not stress
that enough- it literally felt like everybody was saying nothing
in CoD was fun anymore because they had already played the map a
year ago, and people were saying they felt like they were being
ripped off having to pay for the new game, when the new game was
full of old assets. This is very important to know, and
remember, because it is the direct reason I choose SHG as my
       favorite studio.
So, the community wanted change, and Activision was well aware
of this. Activision, wanting to make a change that CoD had never
seen, without tarnishing the reputation of their "big", and well
known studios (Treyarch and Infinity Ward- the fanboy flamewars
were real back then), decided it was time to give one of their
support studios, who had been developing a third person CoD
before being brought in to help IW finish up MW3 after the
Infinity Ward saga played out, a chance to make their own game,
       under Activisions terms.
So, Activision wanted their new CoD to still retain the CoD
gunplay, and fast paced action that we had grown accustomed to,
but they needed the game to take a leap into the unknown, and
change things up as much as possible. Well, nobody can say SHG
didn't accomplish that. I'll be the first to admit, maybe they
overshot things by introducing Jetpacks, and abilities (which
would evolve into specialists in Treyarchs and IWs releases),
and the laser guns were corny. But damn it, the game was fun, to
me anyhow. At it's core, the game had the same gunfights and
played just like a Call of Duty game. The only difference was
the jetpacks, and the community wanted different.
Then, instantly, those same assholes saying how Call of Duty
needed to take chances, and do something different, were the
same assholes attacking the game, saying Advanced Warfare was
not Call of Duty because it took place in space. This was when I
realized: As a community, we don't know what the hell it is we
really want. The community demands different, and gets it, and
then we have the balls to say, "it's too different. Remember
this fact, because it takes place again in just a couple of
       years (from Advanced Warfare's release).
Advanced Warfare ushered in a 3 year period of futuristic Call
of Duty, which I personally had no problem with, but the
community seemed to hate it. By the time Infinite Warfare was
revealed, the community had had enough, and demanded that we
return to "boots on the ground", and all of that silly shit
(BTW, I couldn't say this on the Activision forums, but fuck
Whiteboy7thst. You are not the voice of the community, so please
go away).Infinite Warfare, for those who have it a chance, and
played it for what it was, as opposed to what they wanted it to
be, was actually a pretty good game. I enjoyed it, and met some
great friends during IW. However, it was evident that the game
was doomed from the start once the reveal trailer came out and
became the 2nd or 3rd most disliked video on YouTube. Nobody had
even seen the game, but they already hated it, and the BOTG
chants began. Activision, hearing the noise from their fans,
knew they had to get back to their roots, and it just happened
to be SledgeHammerGame's turn in the three year cycle.
We all know good and well that Activision demanded a return to
old school Call of Duty, and told SHG exactly what kind of game
they had to make. So, we received WWII from SHG, and,
unsurprisingly, the fans hated it, too. It was "too slow",
"boring", "non-authentic to the era", etc, etc. However, the
hype for WWII was real, and I'm sure this made Activision happy,
even though it made SHG unhappy. SHG, it would be revealed, was
working on Advanced Warfare 2 before getting the mandate that
their game somehow bring the franchise back to where it was
before they took it to space, and this made quite a few SHG
employees unhappy. I firmly believe that this is one reason the
studio founders were "promoted" within Activision, but at the
cost of being removed from the studio they co-founded.
In short, SHG never really had a chance to make their own game.
They were developing their own game for Call of Duty, and were
told to scrap the project in order to help the more celebrated
Infinity Ward complete Modern Warfare 3. Three years later, they
were told to scrap Advanced Warfare 2 for a "BOTG" Call of Duty.
Basically, they were the sacrificial lamb of development
studios, who had no say in what they made, but twice were tapped
to revive the franchise. SledgeHammerGames was not a failure as
a developer. Activision set SHG up to fail by putting them in a
       no-win situation, TWICE!
For that reason alone, I choose them as my favorite studio. They
stood no chance, and yet, managed to give us a couple of really
solid games. Even if their games were not the most technically
sound products, I have to respect them for the way they handled
themselves. They never once went to media bitching about the
demands from Activision, like Vonderhaar did (remember his tweet
about how bad it felt to pitch ideas you were passionate about,
only to have them met with "nos" across the board?). When the
co-founders left the company, through Activision's
"restructuring" of the studio, neither one of them said a word
about how they felt, or what went into making the decision to
oust them. To me, that shows incredible integrity. As long as
you have your integrity, and do things the right way, I think
that is deserving of the utmost respect. Let's face it, we all
have been vocal about our disdain and hatred for Activision, and
all they did to us was take down their forums.
Oh well, thanks for reading, and please let me know who your
favorite is, if you haven't fallen asleep reading this long ass
       editorial piece.

I can't comment much on this because the only 2 versions where I
have played multiplayer are Black Ops 4 and this Modern Warfare.
I played the campaigns of the original MW, MW2, MW3, Ghosts and
Infinite Warfare. I started the campaigns of Advanced Warfare
and WWII but I lost interest very quickly because they didn't
       keep my attention.

It all started with Infinity Ward. They made a good game with
Call of Duty, and 2 years later CoD2. I think ATVI has seen the
potential of this game series, so they hired new devs called
Treyarch. Treyarch made CoD 3. CoD 3 was only available for
consoles, to that time it was PS3 and X-Box. I wanted to play
it, so I bought me a PS3 just to play CoD 3. Multiplayer has
always been great, but with CoD 3 it really hit a point where I
got kind of addicted to play MP. Modern Warfare a year later
took it to the crown on my end...I dont tell how many hours I
       spend to play Modern Warfare...
To that time I liked IW and Treyarch really much the same.
It has been like this until Ghosts. From that time I lost with
every further title more "respect" and "faith" in both devs.
Dont let me start talking about Sledgehammer, which has been the
       worst from all devs.
I don't really care about all of these developers now, and they
       have all become "unbelievable".

It's a tough one. I can say it's not going to be SHG for me
though. I'll just list the games I've played and rate them out
of 5 and do a little math and find out which studio gave me the
best times. Even I may be surprised by the results. Before I
start though, I gotta make one thing clear. The early CoDs are
going to have high marks cause I played them with a few of my
good real life friends. Some of the best gaming moments of my
       life during them times.
MW2(IW)-My first CoD I played online. Therefore one of my tops.
Didn't care about anything behind the scenes, didn't go online
for anything, no forums, just friends. All I cared about was
killing people and partying up. After a while I began sniping
and QSing with my buddies. Awesome, 5/5.
BO1(Treyarch)-Was a great game. They did fuck up snipers though
by adding to ads time to prevent QSing, but run-n-gun was just
as enjoyable. Hit markers felt weird. Great, 4/5.
MW3(all 3 worked on this, but I'm giving it to IW)-By this time
I thought I was hot shit lol. Very similar to MW2, but imo, was
different enough. Snipers were back. Run-n-gun was still good.
My KD was starting to creep close to 3. But with all that came
me transforming into a "sweat". Started noticing certain things
that were BS, raging, the whole 9 yards lol. Solid, 4/5.
BO2(Treyarch)-Another one of my top favorites. Sniping was fun.
Run-n-gun, shotguns, all great. Had snipers, shotguns, and smgs
diamonded out. Put the most time in this one. Highest KD of any
       CoD I played, 3+. Super, 5/5.
Ghosts(IW)-First CoD played mostly solo. All my friends stopped
after MW3 and BO2. Honestly, the gameplay was good, but I
couldn't get into the slowness and huge maps. KD really fell
off, and I began losing interest in trying, and in CoD in
       general. Disappointed, 3/5.
Advanced Warfare (SHG)-Nope. Lol, I didn't like this game at all
at first. Only reason I'll give it a rating is cause of their
One Shot mode they came out with later. That actually was fun.
       Terrible, 1/5.
BO3(Treyarch)-I liked it when I got a chance to play it. I was
out of the country for most of its cycle. I still managed to get
a few days worth in. Only gripe were the Specialists. Ok, 3/5.
Infinite Warfare (IW)-I liked this game even though it wasn't
well received. The mechanics felt great. I was coming off
playing TF2. I didn't even start IW until January of that games
cycle. TF2 played a bit faster, but I think that is why I liked
IW. Also is the first CoD I joined them damned forums
🖕😆. End of that game, and the start of going on
forums, I believe, marked the beginning of my downfall in CoD,
as in lacking interest more and more. Good, 4/5.
WWII (SHG)-Hated it at first. Hit detection felt weird, way off
weird. HQ was a complete joke, and they forced you to go into
it. Divisions were stupid, imo. Maps were meh. Snipers were fun
though. They did do a massive overhaul on a few things I didn't
like, which made it better. Meh, 2/5.
BO4(Treyarch)-Specialists, stim shot, and 150 health completely
ruined it for me. I was so over specialists and they decided to
one-up it and have the dumb timed thing as well, I don't even
know what it was called anymore. Having to decide whether to
stim to heal or reload in a lot of situations, ugh..dumb.
Sniping was fun. Barebones came too late. Not good, 2/5.
MW(IW)-There's a lot of shit wrong with this game. I hated it
the first few weeks it was out. Worst maps and worst matchmaking
I've ever seen in a CoD game. People told me to adapt, except
all I see is people adapting to how every other CoD is played.
By that I mean I see way more people coming out and moving
around, so in that sense it has gotten a little better. Even
though I now have quite a bit of time in the game, it's still
low on my list. [s]Could've[/s] should've been great, 2/5.
       Soooo.....
       Infinity Ward- 18/25=72%
       Treyarch- 14/20=70%
       Sledgehammer- 3/10=30%
I actually am surprised that Infinity Ward has brought me the
best CoD experience. I thought it'd be Treyarch. Huh.

I'll be honest, James, I thought Treyarch would be the top of
the list for you as well. I always thought Treyarch was, by far,
       your favorite.
You mentioned nostalgia playing a large part in four scoring,
and I'm glad you did. Because, for me, Black Ops 2 was far and
away my favorite CoD of all time. I played it with my nephew,
split-screen, during his entire spring break. When I realized
that only his account was getting XP (we played under his SN,
and I played as his screen name (1)), I went out and bought a
2nd copy of the game, in April, and started my own account. I
wanted to be a prestige master so badly that I grinded the crap
out of that game. I started with a new, fresh account in April,
and the day before the new CoD came out, I managed to reach MP,
on the map Grind, while messing around with the crossbow.
I have only gone to the midnight release event for two Call of
Duty titles: Advanced Warfare (promised my nephew it would be
installed for him by the time he got home from school), and
WWII. I will never forget Advanced Warfare's release night
because after I got the game, I went down to the room I normally
play games in, and started the installation process. I was
looking at the shit they gave away when I noticed my dog at the
time, a Chihuahua, was not at my feet. He was ALWAYS at my feet.
I got up, walked into the bathroom, and there he was, "expired".
Sorry, I'm super sensitive, and emotional and still can't say
       that word.
The WWII release was pretty cool though. I went with my Dad, and
we picked up a ton of SWAG from GameStop. They just walked
around the line with a box full of promotional items, and let
everybody take two or three things. Like a dumbass, I grabbed
two maps, and a stupid pin button. My dad grabbed 3 of the
miniatures of people throughout the game.
I believe Treyarch makes the best games, and has the best feel,
but I just respect the hell out of SHG for the work they did,
and received little credit for it.

       I don't have a favourite Dev.
As my top 3/4 are different devs.
       Top is.
       1. WaW
       2. Mw/MW2
       3. Ww2
       I skipped the 3 advance movement cods. As I don't enjoy sci-fi
games that much. And if I want to play a sci-fi game I will get
       a sci-fi game.
Ghosts was on the edge of being to sci-fi.
Www2 games have a plus for me. As I game really into shooters
with call of duty, medal of honour and brothers in arms.

Started online MP with MW3 about 1/2 thru the cycle. Took a
while to figure out what the Hell was going on but was having
       fun.
Ghosts-my favorite to date. Couldn't wait to get home and play.
Found the love for a Thermal Silenced LMG's and a Suppressed
Sniper Rifles. Dropzone...my favorite game mode of all time.
Plus the create a class system is still, in my opinion, the best
of all since then. Free Fall...worst map in COD history IMO.
Still go back and play Ghosts sometimes. It's surprising to see
there are still a few thousand players on line.
Advanced Warfare-liked it. New style gameplay. Kinda fresh.
Atlas 20MM-Best Sniper Rifle Ever after they screwed up the Lynx
and made it a 2-shot kill from a 1-shot in Ghosts. You could
shoot someone in the foot with the Atlas 20MM and kill them!
BO3-was just OK. Still played it a lot. Learned the value of
       blind chucking grenades...
Infinite Warfare-Suffered thru it for about 3 months before
deciding this was the worst. The Jetpack Jockeys had become too
much to bare. I will readily admit it was because most of the
other players were better (much much better) at using the
Advanced Movement than I was so it became a drudgery to try and
keep up. I had more Supply Drops/Care Packages stolen in 3
months play in IW than I had in full cycle play on the earlier
       3. Don't even get me started on how stupid I though introducing
       Sniper Scope Glint was.
WWII-Meh....to far in the "Back to Boots on the Ground"
direction in my opinion. Had some very pretty maps though...
BO4-Enjoyed it greatly. Got me back to being excited to play as
soon as I got home from work. Found my like of playing HC modes
over Core-especially TDM. Had more days played on it than
Ghosts, AW and BO3 combined. Great Camping spots! Especially
if you had a Microwave Shield or Mesh Mines! I really liked
pretty much every map. Really good Thermal Supressed LMG's and
Sniper Rifles. Still play it on occasion.
MW-So far I'm enjoying it greatly. First game however where I
flat our refuse to play certain maps or only with certain
conditions. Piccadilly ranks right up there with Free Fall in
my opinion as worst map in COD history so I refuse to play it at
all regardless. I try to avoid Shipment if I can (it's terrible
in HC mode) and only play Crash or Vacant if I'm in a party.
Map filtering would work great for me on this one. Very
disappointed that Sniper Scope Glint is back. Makes it tougher
to be the guy with the Sniper Rifle that everyone loves to hate
because he's laid out at the back of the map picking them off
and they don't know where it's coming from. The advent of the
Cronan C480 has helped some but still...
With all that said I guess I would have to say that they've all
produced a game that I've liked. Looks like Trayarch and IW are
       about tied.

Guess I am on the fence ???
Loved Ghosts and donned it with the gold combat knife, loved to
hear the squeakers when I went 27-7 on Tremor with it (only once
but the rage from that lobby still keeps my blood moving).
Played a lot of BO3 and had a great time on it playing with a
       good crew.
Got really into WW2, but then I remember back to the days when
CoD was Medal of Honor and I think they did a good job of
re-creating the feel of those old games.
Liking MW so far, but I am finding once I have completed the
ribbons etc I am putting my gaming elsewhere as there isn't
       really anything to do.

the list for you as well.
       [/quote]
Yea I did that on the fly without really thinking about it ahead
of time. BO4 is probably what did Treyarch in for me. I don't
know why them damn specialists bother me so much, but they do
       lol.
If I were to rate just the devs...they are all equally
incompetent for the most part. I mean they're all way smarter
than me, but it seems after BO2 they all have fucked with shit
that me and a lot of other players didn't see it necessary. Plus
their un-transparent way of operating just pisses a guy off,
even if it is Asstivision pulling the strings, idc. The two guys
who left IW and formed Respawn seem to know their shit. TF2 was
fun as hell during its peak. I will have to commend SHG newly
appointed head dev who orchestrated the overhaul of WWII. IMO,
that was much needed, even if it didn't make the game a whole
lot better. At least they made an attempt.
Sorry to hear about your dog. We had to put ours down a few
       years ago, that was tough.

Thanks for the words about my dog. Not gonna lie, I was crying
like a bitch, and woke my nephew up, and had to have my Mom come
over at 130 in the morning (I live in the same subdivision as
them, and our backyards are only separated by 3 houses, so it's
not like she had to rush across town.).
Anyhow, the dog I have now is by far the absolute best damn dog
I've ever been around, and I'm beyond thankful that she ended up
with me. I was volunteering at the animal shelter at the time,
"socializing" the dogs that were, for a lack of better word,
dicks. You know the type; you stick your hand out to feed it and
the fucker bites your other arm? For some reason, I was able to
work with every single one of them, even the ones that had been
there over a year, and get them to where you could pet them. I'm
going to lose "manly" points here, but fuck it, it broke my
heart to see those dogs that were transfers from other shelters,
who would absolutely tremble and cower when you walked in their
cage because they had been grossly mistreated. I'm sorry, but it
takes a real piece of shit to abuse a dog, especially a dog that
you had taken in because you intended to make them a part of
       your family.
I was finishing up my volunteer work, when I walked by an empty
cage, which shocked me because they never have empty pens there.
There was paperwork already posted, and it was for a 6mo old
female beagle, owner surrender, but she had not yet arrived at
the pound. As I was reading through her paperwork, animal
control brought her in, from outside (they take the dogs around
the outside of the building, and get them to go inside a little
doggy door that, once entered, locks the dog inside the
facility.). I kid you not, James, you would have thought that
she and I were being reunited, even though she and I had just
seen each other for the first time. She ran to the front of the
pen, and started howling for me. She never even looked behind
her to notice she couldn't go back outside. It took me all of 45
seconds to open her cage, take her to the front, and adopt her.
Since I was a volunteer, I didn't have to wait while they
conduct tests to determine the dog's demeanor, and what type of
household she'd fit best in. She was a "stray" for 45 seconds.
The worst part about it was that she came in on a Friday, and
the shelter has a strict policy that any animal that is adopted
must first be spayed or neutered, so I signed the paperwork for
her, making her mine, on a Friday, and picked her up from the
vet and brought her home the following Monday. When they brought
her out from the back room at the vet, she saw me, and ran
straight to me. From that day, she has been right next to me
       wherever I go.
I honest to God hope I die before anything happens to her. I'm
40, now, so I'm rooting for a heart attack or something, which
isn't far fetched given my panic disorder. I frequently have
blood pressure readings of 175/105, or some crazy shit like
that. My resting pulse is around 90, but I am in great shape,
outside of my broken and torn up back anyhow. (I'm not a fatass
       is what I'm saying).
Now THAT, my friends, was an epic tangent.
