So, Here Are The Results of my Server Study from 2 nights of
Playing.

I'm going to attempt to post this straight from Google Docs. If
that does not work, I'm going to try to post the screenshot of
the sheet, showing how bad things are. Remember, I am in North
Central Indiana, about 180 miles from Chicago, Illinois. I am
posting this for the purpose of exposing the fact that
Activision has been lying to all of us regarding ping being
king.
Edit- I was expecting the PDF to post in this box. It did not.
Below you will see "untitled spreadsheet.pdf", you'll have to
click on that to access the file I guess. Let me know if there
are any problems accessing the file.

uncomfortable downloading "Untitled Document". I understand if
people are hesitant to download something from a " stranger".

That's about how mine would look. Except I get Dallas and St.
Louis more often. New Jersey not as much as you. Never seen any
outside the country. I haven't looked in a couple weeks now.
When I was checking, I could definately tell when I was on a
server further away before I even looked. Now I just back out
and try again if I'm dying by players that seem to be 100ms
ahead of me.
I have read up on how this stuff works (only a little might I
add). Your closest server isn't always going to be the best
ping. It depends on how many hops there are in between you and
the server. Whether these hops fluctuate between matches, I do
not know. I don't understand why they would. All I can say is
100% of the time I feel like I'm far enough behind other players
to the point I literally can't compete, I'll look and it will
show me connected far away like Dallas or Florida. It's not 100%
that I have a decent match and see I'm on Chicago servers
though. I can usually play and feel I can compete probably
80-90% of the time. One way I check that is my first head to
head gun battle. If I'm melted before I even ads, I usually
bounce, might try a few more, but in the end I won't be
finishing that match. Not worth it since how I play, I have
quite a few head to head encounters. Plus I can tell when I've
been outgunned, or got screwed by latency differences. I'm not
one to make (too many) excuses for getting killed. ;D
I would just like to know the reason behind it all. BrianSavanna
said during IW he was like always connected to Atlanta servers.
That RL dude had a server 7ms from him, yet he only would get on
it a couple matches once in a while. The rest they'd throw him
all across Europe and Middle East. Brian says MW has him all
over the place as well. I don't get it.
Sometimes I feel this is their way of SBMM. I mean people give
them an awful lot of credit to implement a complex algorithm for
matching players on several areas to determine skill. When these
same tools can't even get descriptions for challenges correct
😝. The last 24/7 playlist that had Shipment, the
description was for shoot the ship ffs. Them lazy asses probably
just make it where after a certain amount of matches they throw
you around the country and use higher latency, and their lag
comp to simulate you playing against equal/better players.

You are absolutely correct about distance and ping not
necessarily correlating. While I have my laptop up, I'm going to
do a tracert and see what the results are. I took 12 or so more
samples tonight, and it got to the point I couldn't handle it
anymore.
I kid you not, I was being placed on godaddy.com servers. I'm
going to go ahead and throw in my spreadsheet from tonight, and
I'll look the ip address up later and update it. I will say
that, tonight, all of my Chicago hosted matches played great.
The St Louis matches were ok. At the end, I wasn't even getting
ip addresses. Instead, it would be a website address, and that's
when I bounced because it felt like a dialup connection.
Edit- I looked up the ONE server that had a suspicious IP
address, and it was a damn GoDaddy.com host. That is the 2nd
attachment in this post

Yo it really can happen that you end up in a lobby with arabic
speaking people. Happened to me 2 minutes ago, German time 09:25
at morning. LOL This game is pure trash connection like.
Meanwhile I end leaving more lobbies instead of playing the
game.
GGreloaded - "Trash, this game is trash."
I like the game at all, otherwise I wouldnt play it any longer.
But I´m losing all respect from devs who created such a poor
netcode.

So, I have a couple more spreadsheets here, showing my whack-ass
connections over the weekend. I seemed to be getting thrown into
St Louis, on some weird company's server, a lot. My ping to St
Louis btw is 42ms.
Edit- have to share a link to my Google Drive because I can't
figure out how to name the damn spreadsheets, and uploaded the
old one

I am purposely replying to my own message, to post my 3rd
spreadsheet, but also to use a few different words to try to
grab Google's Search Engine"s attention when people search "
modern warfare server locations"
So, here is another, smaller, spreadsheet showing the location
of modern Warfare's dedicated servers that I connect to. These
are for the PS4 Modern Warfare Dedicated Server Locations, and
as you'll see, there is some discrepancy in locations.
For the IP addresses that say "Chicago, Il & Atlanta, GA", I am
just posting what iplocation.net gave me. The 3rd column lists
the "organization", followed by the ISP. Please, someone else
search those ip addresses for those IP addresses that resolve to
GoDaddy, and that GmbH, and see what you find. I can't
understand why GoDaddy would be listed as the ISP or host.
Admittedly, I didn't do a ton of research yet, as I've just been
collecting data. I'd log the IP on my phone before every match
in a spreadsheet, do that all day, then look the IPs up later
that night.
Tonight I'm going to disable auto-ping, and move my location
around Europe/Germany, so Horrorman can get the IP of his
closest server and see if he's connecting to it or not, even
though he didn't ask me to.

I didn't forget to do it, I just did it incorrectly. Per the
DumaOS forums, I was supposed to change my location, simply by
moving where I claim "home" is by pinning my location near
Germany, and then set the Geofilter to 380 miles, and start a
match on my PS4. I did this, and was thrown onto the same
servers as I usually get.
Tomorrow, I think I'm going to try by doing things differently.
All I want to see is the icon of a dedicated server, which is a
solid white rectangle, and click on it to get it's IP address.
Of course, that means turning off AutoPing, since Autoping
displays the IP address automatically, so clicking on the icon
is not needed. If I turn AutoPing off, then I can click on the
icon, and see what AutoPing normally displays for me. (I'm just
typing that out as I'm thinking, so I don't forget.)
One curious thing I noticed, and if James sees this, I'm curious
if he's experiencing the same thing, is that as soon as I turn
the game on, I see a round icon, with dashed lines around it.
The instant I turn AutoPing off, so that I can click on it to
see what it is, the damn thing disappears. Literally, every
single time. As soon as I turn AutoPing back on, the icon
reappears, like it's playing hide and seek.

When you see anything near "Stuttgart" thats where I live. I
heard in Frankfurt should be a server farm for CoD. That would
be around 160 miles, or 200 km away from where I am. So if it
works what you want to do I´m really curious what you
"discover".
