Jim and the others had just managed to make it to the Forest
Kingdom when his hovercraft had given out. They were close to
the Forest Union now, so they felt safe in going on foot from
there. Once they had made contact and settled in at the camp,
having spoken with the leader, Calhoun, everyone had split up.
San and Katara were off somewhere. Jim was glad he didn't have
to deal with San just as of yet. Belle had also gone off, lost
in the books they had saved from the library. She seemed very
distracted, so Jim had tried to give her space. He himself had
decided to go off on his own into the woods. One of the members
of camp had told him of a sacred grove close by where people
went to meditate or relax. it sounded like as good a place as
any to try and clear his head. It was to his surprise that when
he arrived there, he found he hadn't been the only one in need
of some meditation.
"Hey Belle. Didn't mean to disturb your peace."

While scanning the statistics of shapeshifting, Belle's ears
perked up to Jim's voice. He seemed at ease, unlike her. She had
to keep silent for a while in order to rest her mind. And now
she was at peace. "What's going on, Jim?"

Jim came up beside Belle and leaned back against one of the
ancient trees that occupied this section of the forest.
"Just trying to relax.... And stay away from San. She's till
pretty upset with that stunt I pulled and losing the library
like that didn't help improve her mood." Jim didn't like to
admit it, but the only reason they had had to burn all the books
in the first place was because he had gone back to the Air
Kingdom.
He looked down at what Belle was reading. It was one of the
books she had teleported out of the library. Well, at least a
bit of the knowledge had survived.
"I'm glad you teleported some of the books away. If you hadn't,
they'd be ashes right now."

"To San's defense," Belle muttered. "destroying the books cost
us some valuable information. On the other hand," her tone
softened. "it would be better if they were reduced to ash and
not be in the hands of Maleficent." Belle gestured to the
volumes that were stacked eatly inside one of the old trees. The
carving inside was similar to a shelf. "The books we managed to
confisicate had the most important details. As long as the
library thunders with her frustration, we'll be safe."

Jim gave Belle a sidelong glance. Truth to tell, he was glad she
wasn't angry at him. He already felt like more people disliked
him then actually liked him. And who could blame them? He wasn't
the easiest person to get along with. Even San, despite her
bluster and tough exterior, could still make friends like
Katara. Jim uncrossed his arms and walked over to the tree where
the salvaged books were housed.
"Knowing my aunt, she probably had the guards in charge of
killing us executed. She doesn't take failure very well."
He knelt down beside the tree and began to look through the
titles.
"Looks like you picked out all he keepers. These books contain
some of the most important and powerful knowledge and magic we
had. Which one do you have there?" Jim put the books back before
coming up behind Belle.

"A guide to shifting." Belle showed Jim the illustration. On the
left showed a large red dragon on all fours, like its many
representations. A few lighter sketches showed it shrinking and
righting itself until the very end showed a sketch of a human
figure. "It would explain you and your sisters' conception.
Dragons of the Air Kingdom had this ability alone."

Jim scowled down at the illustration in the book.
"What, air dragons are the only ones that can shift? I was never
told that. Then again, we never really knew much about our
dragon heritage. After all, everyone just thought it was a
myth."
Jim looked at the book for a while longer. Suddenly, an idea
struck him.
'Belle, does it say anything it that book about how to
permenantly stay human? How to keep someone from shifting?"

Belle flipped through before shaking her head. "If there's any
indication it has yet to be written down."

Jim sat down by Belle and watched her flip through the pages.
"Well, if there isn't a spell specifically for it, couldn't you
combine a shifting spell with a reversal spell and get the same
results?"
Jim himself had taken a few lessons in magic. In the Air
Kingdom, it was expected of everyone to try the various talents
the schools had to offer in order to find the right fit. San had
found hers in combat, whereas Jim had found his in engineering.

"I do know a spell that can reverse a shifting, like if we
accidentally turned a person into a toad." Belle mused, rubbing
her chin. "I'm a little rusty, though." She stood up. "I just
hope you don't mind being a guinea pig."
