Apprentice and Assassin (Tag: Layla)

Maleficent sat in her throne, sipping from a small wine glass
and waiting. The Dark Queen had informed her that the person she
had chosen for the role of assassin would be arriving soon. It
annoyed her that she had been so rudely dismissed by the Queen
and that her assassin had been take from her. Still, she
couldn't afford to go directly against the Dark Queen. She
continued to sip from her glass, enjoying the taste. She was
glade to have someone who would finally kill San and Jim,
especially since her guards had been unable to kill them when
San and Jim had managed to sneek into the castle while she was
with the queen. Well, she had a new captain of the guard now and
he had better not disappoint. A small knock at the door sounded
before a guard appeared.
"My Queen, someone to see you."
"Send them in." Maleficent said in a quiet voice. The guard
bowed before leaving.

Layla walked up to the front of the air kingdom castle. She had
never been there before. Yet she was given a notice. She walked
into the room as the guards instructed. She stood there looking
at the Maleficent.

As the young girl entered the throne room and stood before her,
Maleficent could feel a sneer appearing on her face. So this was
the assassin that the Dark Queen had sent her? A young and
useless looking creature. Still, there must have been something
about her or she would not belong to the Twilight. Maleficent
released her glass, which disappeared into the air.
"Well, well, look what the guard dragged in. Am I to assume you
were sent here by the Dark Queen, my dear?"

Maleficent smiled at the young woman. It was not a kind smile.
"Well then, am I to assume that you are mastered in the arts of
dark magic, skilled in deception, and capable of destroying your
enemies efficently? Because the job I have for you requires all
of this and more. And I do not tolerate disappointment."

Layla looked at Maleficent. "Skilled in deception and capable of
destroying my enemies I can. My heart is filled with rage and
hatred. On the dark magic part, I am still learning that."

The temperature in the room began to drop at Layla's words.
"Two out of three is not good enough. I expect only the best and
you will not do. Would you care to wager your life on a two to
three chance?"
Malefcient stared at the young woman for a moment and smiled
before slightly tilting her staff. Suddenly, a long daggar
appeared behind Layla. It floated in the air for a moment before
it went flying through the air, poised to strike the girl in the
small of her back.

Layla looked at the dagger. She wasn't afraid of it. Her face
remained cold and still as the hallowed graves. She didn't move
though. She wasn't afraid of death or anything anymore.

At the last moment, the dagger switched course and flew by
Layla's face, leaving a small line of blood. Maleficent caught
the dagger in her hand and smiled down at the girl.
"Impressive. You show no fear. A useful quality to have. But I
doubt that is your only power." Maleficent let the dagger turn
to dust in her hand.
"Show me your........gifts, my dear."

Layla nodded and shifted into her dark fairy form as a cyan bra
top, cyan pants, boots, headband, bracelet, and moon shape wings
appeared on her. She flew up into the air and shot fuchsia
energy beams filled with a dark energy and shot at a tree
outside turning it into ice. Then she flew back to the floor and
shape shifted into her dark mare form and then back into her
fairy form. The only spell that she knew how to perform was to
turn objects to light and shape shift.
