just a daily day in the life of foreverkit [ o ]

[ a ] little brown kit awoke with
a large jowled yawn. she stretched, waking herself and raking
her mini-claws aginst the tattered ground. she padded outside,
ears flattened against her head submissively and in a shy
matter, she slid into the medicene cat den. "hello." she piped,
looking at the sleeping medicene cat. she put on a brave face,
her normal visits were just watching medicene cats and studying
them. this is what she really took an interest
to.

spacecadet woke up when the kit entered,
and stood up to greet her. "hello, love." he yawned, still
pretty drowsy. "anything i can help you with?" he padded over to
his stock of herbs, silvery eyes searching for some cobwebs and
poppy seeds. if she was hurt, he needed to be ready. "are you
hurt, er something?" he asked, a worried look replacing his
utter tiredness.

"n-n-no. " foreverkit stuttered,
stepping up to him. "i'd like to learn more about herbs." she
mewed shyly, looking at her paws
self-conciously.

spacecadet sighed. phew, she isn't hurt.
his face brightened as she went on, and he smiled when she
finished. "that's great!" he murmured. "where should we start?
or, here. i want to know what you know already. can you tell me
what's the best remedy for a bellyache?" spacecadet wondered if
she would know, but he knew that foreverkit was smart. it was
sort of a trick question, though, because there was three
possible ways.

Longkit padded up, a broad smile stretching across her grey maw.
The tiny tabby had seen Foreverkit pad in, and her interest and
skyrocketed. Medicine? Her heart sank. Both the kitten's
mother and father had been lost to greencough, and her soul was
still unsettled by the fact she had never been able to help at
least ease their pain. Padding in, her green eyes quickly grew
wider to make up for the lack of light in the dim den. "Uhm,
hello." Okay, so maybe this wasn't exactly the right time, as
it appeared Spacecadet was... training Foreverkit? Huh, maybe
it was open lessons. "How does one stop greencough, exactly?"
No need to beat around the bush, she wanted to know. And
stomachaches? Wait, bellyaches? Oh, she had had one before.
"I got given juniper once, when my tummy hurt," she meowed,
fluffy fur seeming to cascade down her lither frame. "But I
thought chervil root helped, too."

spacecadet smiled as longkit strolled in.
"why hello there, longkit." he meowed. "greencough you say? hmm,
catnip would be the best remedy." the solid blue tom waited for
foreverkit to answer, and when longkit replied his face lit up.
"yes! that is correct! is there any other way, besides juniper
and chervil?" the medicine cat smiled, wondering if the tomkit
would get this one.

The fluffy she-kit racked her brain. "Umm, f- no," sitting
down, Longkit searched deep within her memory, only to conjure
up the blurry memory of when she was a young kit- now she was
nearly an apprentice. Yes, there it was. A plant that produced
small white buds with a bright, bumblebee-yellow at the center.
And the leaves were a rougher texture, like feverfew. But no,
that was something else... Then, she found it. A spiky, lilac
plant that was sort of a circle. It's name..it was..
"Watermint?" The question was cautious, as she wasn't entirely
sure.

"yes!" he meowed, smiling. "that's exactly
it, longkit." spacecadet searched his mind for another question
to give the two she-kits, a trickier one this time. "alright,
you got that one... now tell me, what's good for giving nursing
queens, that can help with producing milk? it can also warn off
fever." okay, not as tricky as he wanted. oh, well. they are
kits, anyways. the next one will be hard!

Seeing as how she was merely a kit when her mother had taken
borage leaves, she wasn't exactly sure as to how she would go
about answering this question. "Um.. I think it was borage, but
I'm not sure." However, there wasn't sadness in her voice.
With this knowledge, Longkit could help people! Save lives,
even! The grey tabby's heart swelled. She was learning!
