The Youth Retreat

The Youth Retreat
The Youth Retreat is the home for children and teenagers who
move to Starlit Night Falls without a parent or guardian, as
well as the home for Young Adults ages 18-20 and those adults
who have chosen to take on the role of Retreat Counsellor. All
children, teenagers, and Young Adults residing within the
Retreat are expected to understand and follow the Age Specific
Rules (available here
HTML http://starlitnightfalls.createaforum.com/information-center/age-specific-rules/)<br
/>and will be held accountable for them.
The Youth Retreat is a single, large building and is considered
as private a space as any family home. People who do not live in
the Retreat may only enter threads within the Retreat if asked
or given permission by the appropriate resident/s. It is split
into three main floors.
The First Floor is the central gathering place containing all
common areas. This is where the residents eat, play, and take
part in all communal activities within the Retreat. These spaces
are accessible to all residents at any time. It is also where
the shared office of the Retreat Counsellors is located. The
Dining Staff serve breakfast and dinner during the school week,
and lunch in addition to these at the weekend. Outside of
mealtimes, food is on a help yourself basis, with fridges and
snack cupboards accessible to all residents as well as a
microwave/kettle/toaster/sandwich press etc. for those who know
how to use them.
The Second and Third Floors are the private areas of the
Retreat. Every resident is provided with an individual bedroom
unless a dual-occupancy is requested. Generally those aged 4-10
will be given a room on the Second Floor, and 11+ will be
located on the Third Floor, but those with siblings or close
friends may request rooms next to each other or dual-occupancy
rooms. Young Adults and Retreat Counsellors are split between
both residential floors. Bathrooms are communal for those under
18, with the exception of older teenagers residing in
dual-occupancy rooms with an ensuite. Young Adults have ensuites
attached to their bedrooms, and all Counsellors are provided
with a suite complete with ensuite and small living area in
addition to their bedroom.
Everyone living in the Youth Retreat is required to contribute
to its day-to-day running. This includes helping with cooking
(for those who know how), cleaning, laundry, and other chores as
well as offering support and encouragement to other residents,
and starting/taking part in recreational activities. All
residents are expected to show respect for each other, including
of an individual's property and private space. Every child and
teenager receives a weekly stipend in the form of pocket money
to spend as they wish and the community ensures that every child
and teenager coming into the Retreat is supplied with clothing,
bedding, etc. on arrival and as needed.
Although there are adults living within the Retreat, they are
there to facilitate group interaction, not to provide one-on-one
attention. Due to this, SNF is not a recommended environment for
those who do not have an individual parent/guardian but require,
or expect to receive, a large amount of individual adult
interaction/discipline.
All Retreat kids are held to the same rules, and uninvited adult
interaction will take place at the discretion of the adults.
Permission for exceptions to the Age Specific Rules should be
sought by private messaging the 'Adults' account. Threads deemed
to be seeking negative adult attention may be locked without
discussion. The community adults are happy to interact with
children but would prefer to be asked to do something as opposed
to being forced to handle negative behaviour.
Any unattached child who does not wish to live in the Youth
Retreat must submit the following form to the administration
after they have been approved:
Name:
Place you want to live:
Reason you chose this place:
Reason for not living in the Retreat:
Currently, the other housing option for unattached children is
the Warehouse (see appropriate thread in this board). This must
be approved by the Administration as well as Juniper Green.
