       Shocks and Surprises
By: JDubya Date: June 9, 2014, 1:41 am

After watching Game of Thrones for 4 dedicated seasons, I'm most
shocked at the new Sansa presented during Episode 8: The
Mountain and The Viper. She is much more savvy when it comes
controlling her environment, and how people react towards her.
She is also less naive about other people's intentions as they
include her in their plots. They are now forced to plot with
her and not around her. This is such a stark contrast to the
       book (no pun intended).
The spoiler episode with the White Walker baby was pretty
       awesome, too!

It's funny what shocks and what doesn't. I wasn't expecting
Ygritte's demise but somehow it didn't affect me much, even
though I really liked her character. Whereas with Oberyn
Martell, I had a sneaking suspicion that he'd lose the fight,
yet his actual death was nevertheless quite upsetting. The
crazy-über-mega-ultra-violence may have had something to do with
       that.

I wasn't that upset about the Red Wedding. But it was very weird
the next episode not seeing Robb or Catelyn. I think I was more
upset about them killing his direwolf. Oberyn's death really
sucked because he was such an awesome character who added to the
dynamics. It was like, finally, someone who isn't afraid to bust
       some Lannister balls.

I have only read snippets from the books. And, i wasn't even
aware of them until I started watching GoT. And, even then,
didn't see the first two seasons until I binged watched them
       right before the third.
I was truly shocked by the Red Wedding. I knew something dire
was going to happen when they closed and bolted the doors. I had
no idea how bad it was going to get. The worst was watching Grey
Wind's demise. On the flip side, I started to really like the
Hound when he clocked Arya and got the heck out of there.
Oberyn's death didn't shock me. I kind of saw that coming. Pride
goeth before a fall thing. But, the skull implosion affected me
as deeply as the Red Wedding.
My favorite characters are Arya and the Hound, Tyrion, Dany,
Bronn, and Maester Aemon. Bronn was dead on right when he
declined to be Tyrion's champion. Just one mistake against the
       Mountain would get you killed.
Nothing can be taken for granted with this story, and that is
what has addicted me to it.

It's a tricky balancing act. Rarely or never kill your lead
characters and the story loses its edge. But if the leads are
dropping like flies the audience becomes numb. That may be why
Ygritte's death didn't bother me as much as it should; after the
previous week's squicky ending a mere arrow in the heart didn't
       seem so bad.

It's funny that you say that because my aunt has been getting
more and more annoyed with the fact the Stark kids keep missing
each other or dying, and Catelyn didn't get to see her family
       united before she was killed.
