       The Essential Tourist

How would you advise a person who wants to visit your country
and region for the first time? What would you tell them are the
essential things to see and experience? Vacations funds not
       being a factor.
For example, I would advise the following for those folks
wanting to experience America in general and Pennsylvania in
       particular.
       America:
Washington, DC - The Smithsonian, especially the Museums of
American History and Air and Space. It would take you a full day
to visit just those two museums and get the most out of them.
They are an excellent snapshot of our history, culture, and
       technology.
Williamsburg, Virginia: Historic Williamsburg, a living history
of how and why we came to be.
New Orleans, Louisiana: The French Quarter - The ultimate
American party place. Descriptions mean nothing. You have to
       experience it. Food, Music, and Alcohol . . . oh . . . and
voodoo. All of it is unique.
St.Paul, Minnesota: The F. Scott Fitzgerald Theater - Be in the
audience of a live radio show called A Prairie Home Companion.
This radio show is performed on stage and brings to life the
American Midwest in music and comedy sketches.
Route 66: "The Mother Road" - This requires meticulous planning
to get off on the right foot. But, if you've done your homework,
you will give yourself the quintessential American road trip
experience. Drive any part of it between Chicago and L.A., bit
do include the part that goes through Arizona.
Arizona: The Grand Canyon - One of the "Wonders of the World",
and one of the few to live up to, and even surpass, the hype.
       Just a pure breathtaking experience.
       My region - Pennsylvania:
Amish Country: For the simple reason of being able to say you
have been to towns called "Intercourse", "Bird in Hand", "Blue
       Ball", and "Paradise".

Ah, yes! I remember all the lame jokes we made about those town
names back in my teenage years.
There is also Gettysburg. You have no idea how insane Pickett's
Charge was until you stood at the bottom of Devil's Canyon and
       looked up.
