Welcome Back
… “This is as far as I’m going Mr. Holloway.” Jace somberly said
as his truck slowed to a halt on the side of the road.
… “I’m not fully sure, but following those train tracks should
get you into the city.” Jace said leaning over me and pointed
across the empty field to up to some train tracks placed behind
a chain link fence. “The governments supposed to got the whole
city surrounded, but you can try getting in through the subway.”
He said not fully sure of his answer.
I stared down the long vast empty road leading all the way to
Tempest City not knowing what’s in store for my journey ahead.
The only info I have is from the news, and everyone knows that
the news casters are full of shit and will make up white lies to
make a story. An eerie black fog lays above the city scape
hiding what sits inside of it, the rest of the country side
still have a warm glow from the remaining tip of sun setting
behind the hills, but the city seems to be in night time.
I hopped out of the truck and slung my backpack over my
shoulder, Jace leaned over to me.
… “Brad, I’m prayin for ya!”
I turned to Jace “I’m not big on the religious stuff, by
thanks.” I briefly quipped.
… “Well you got my number, let me know how everything goes, I
hope you find Clair.” Jace said with a reinsuring grin.
… “Alright.” I dimly said.
I trekked across the grass field to the train tracks, I looked
back at Jace’s truck as he did a U turn and drove off the
opposite way, the hum of his truck disappeared and left the
still sound of the country side behind him.
I knew there was a lot of danger in store for me, but the idea
of a zombie outbreak wasn’t fully getting through to me.
Reports of a deadly virus tearing through Tempest City was
casted over the news, an hour later another report came on
explaining there was a virus epidemic happening, after that, the
news kept pouring in for a full week leading up to a full out
zombie pandemic causing the City to collapse, the Government
surrounded the city with walls to keep the zombie escaping
further into the land.
I climbed the Chain link fence and jumped down to the railroad
tracks, I looked out down the tracks and watched the dark orange
sun slowly go down, which made me more nervous, I wasn’t too
excited to be wandering around the city in the dark. I picked up
my feet and followed along the railroad tracks.
I got a letter in the mail today, there was no writing on the
front of it, no return address or signature, I opened the blank
envelope, inside was a brief handwritten letter “Brad, I need
you here, I need your HELP.” Signed “Claire” at the bottom. The
letter left dumbfounded at first but then freaked me out shortly
after.
Claire was my ex-wife, 6 years together was long enough for us,
after that she kicked me out of our home and sent me packing,
“apparently I wasn’t good enough for her and had some growing up
to do!” Now 4 years later and she’s in Tempest city hanging out
with the zombies while I’m in the next county over watching as
is all happens.
The strange thing was the I recived the letter 2 weeks after the
government sealed the city with all the residents still inside
of it, how’d the letter get out?!? I didn’t know what to do, so
I tried to ignore the letter, maybe it was a joke, but as the
news reports started to slow down I grew more anxious and
confused.
I walked for a good few miles through the grassy plains till I
caught a lonely home sitting to the side of the railroad tracks.
I was curious to see if anyone was living there, since it was so
close to the city, I climed back over the chainlike fence
surrounding the tracks and trotted to the house, it was a small
little cabin with very little features, in the backyard was a
clothesline with a full set of clothes on it blowing in the
wind, I walked up to the line and looked over the clothing,
there were a few floral dresses, a blue jeans and an assortment
of T-shirts, but the clothes were not clean, I noticed a few
shirts had dried up blood stains on them.
Just then a static noise startled me, it was coming from a small
handheld walkie talkie sitting right side up on the picnic table
next to me, over the static came a voice, but it was impossible
to try making sense of what it was saying, there was too much
static and fizzle, I listened to the walkie talkie for a few
seconds before the channel went to dead air, I shrugged and
walked up to the house, I peeked in the windows, there was one
light peering from behind a wall leading into a room. I ran up
to the door and knocked and waited for a good minute before
knocking again, still nothing.
After that I didn’t hesitate to grab ahold of the door knob to
see if I could turn it, it was unlocked so I walked in and asked
if anyone was home, of course there was no answer, I cautiously
walked down the narrow hallway towards the dim glow of a lamp
light coming from a room at the end of the hall.
I left home and got a mile out of town before getting an upset
stomach and the jitters, I entered a gas station across the
street and walked up to the counter deciding if I wanted to buy
a pack of cigarettes to calm my nerves, I was more focused on
turning back and going home rather than what cigarettes to get,
just then a slim man walked into the store to pay for his gas,
as he waited for his change, he noticed me then noticed my full
backpack, then my troubled face. He stopped and walked up to me
and studied me for a second.
… “Did you come from Tempest?” He questioned almost as if he was
afraid to ask.
I shook my head no, he instantly snapped back raising an eyebrow
“You going to Tempest?!?!” He questioned again but more
strongly.
I nodded with a sigh.
I stopped before the door at the end of the hallway and listened
for any sounds, but it was dead silent, I held my breath and
peeked around the corner, it was an infant’s room, I scanned the
room looking at the cheery wallpaper with clouds shaped as
animals, my eyes wandered towards the crib where something
caught my eye, without fully entering the room I stood on my
tippy toes and peered into the crib.
… “Ahh, Holy fucking shit! Nope!” I blurted out while quickly
catching the sight of a slightly decapitated toddler, I dashed
right for the front door and jumped outside, taking a big breath
of air, I walked around to the back yard where the static from
the walkie talkie was going on again; the voice was still un
recognizable. I held my forehead and looked back towards home,
was the fear of what lies ahead starting to sink in, should I
just go back home?!?
… “I know this sounds crazy, but something in your eyes feels
like this needs to be done, I’ll take you in my truck to the
outskirts of the city, that’s all I can do for you kid.”
Jace introduced himself as he drove us down the 2 lane road
towards Tempest City, I introduced myself then explained the
letter to him, the more I talked about it the more crazy it
seemed , and more crazy I seemed for listening to it. But
something inside of me felt like I needed to answer it.
TO BE CONTINED!!!!!!!! YEAYYYYY, I KNOW YOU LOVE CHAPTERS SO
HERE YUH GO!!!!

Dude... That was epic. A slightly decapitated Toddler, that's
fucked up.
This chapter was perfect, I liked the back story mixed in with
the chapter.
I can't wait for the next chapter man, I really can't.

Wow this is a grand A bone chiller. I got the feeling I was
reading a movie script for Spielberg, and the zombies are set
loose in tempest city is this the government trying to clean up
their mess or an accidental chemical spill that mutated people
into undead groupies? I wanna know more man you got me wandering
stuff. The music set the tone for something creepy a foot, the
dead have come risen for dinner and we're on the menu lol.
to be honest I don't care for zombies as much but I'm starting
to warm up to the flesh crave eating cannibals, that didn't
sound right but you get the gist of it and thanks for keeping
the horror genre strong on the forums between you and AB's
post-apoc it's a nice breath of fresh air from the usual
gangster glitz heard what I'm saying.

I watched the trailer for that game, didnt look to bad for a DLC
game, but take your time, you dont have to follow this story
religiously, Its mainly a side project I will update everyone
once in a while.

Slow Train to Tempest
I stood at the entrance of the train tunnel going through
the hills into the city; the tunnel was barricaded with plys of
wood and rebar across the front of the tunnel, I noticed a good
hole in the side of the barricade where somebody knocked out,
there were chips and broken pieces of wood from where it was
hacked at.
I stood on top of the picnic table and scanned over the rolling
hills and at the city scape, I didn’t even want to look at the
cabin, the image of that poor infant disturbed me to even think
of that. I watched the clothes on the line fray as a cool
calming breeze of wind blew through the air; I spaced out for a
moment and thought about the time I spent with Claire, I did
love her, even though things went sour near the end of our
relationship, I couldn’t blame her for being upset from my
actions, I should have tried to fix my mistakes, but I am a
coward. The little Yellow Walkie Talkie buzzed off next to me
snapping me out of my trance, I decided to take it along with
me, and maybe it would help me in my journey.
I peeked through the hole in the barrier, all I could see
was a dark black endless tunnel with the faint red glow from the
lights on the walls, I took a deep breath and entered the
tunnel. I hesitantly took a few steps forward into the shadowy
darkness and looked ahead, I could see where the tunnel bends,
but I have no idea how long this tunnel could be. At a turtles
pace I made my way through the train tunnel following the
tracks, I cautiously made light steps making sure not to make
any loud noises, my head darted around in all directions, I was
waiting for something to jump out at me.
But for what seemed like an endless amount of time I final
neared the end of the train tunnel, I could see the subway
platform up ahead, it was an underground station. I shuffled to
the end of the tunnel, the platform was dimly lit, it was hard
to see the whole area, which wasn’t that big, I noticed a whole
tone of Luggage and boxes scattered on the train platform, I
guess people were trying to leave the city from here. I took a
few steps out of the tunnel before a person’s shadow jumped up
from behind a box, I froze in my place “Oh God!” I whispered to
myself.
My heart beat like it was trying to jump out of my skin as the
figure stared at me.
The person spoke up “Will….Nancy?!?” The person asked.
I hesitated before speaking up … “N---No, Brad…” I nervously
replied.
The figure took a few steps back then ran down the platform, I
stood in place, I didn’t know what to do, but before I could
even make a decision on what to do, the person came running back
but was followed by a group of people, they all stopped and
grouped together.
A brute voice echoed through the station “Why don’t you go ahead
and put your hands above your head and step into the light for
me.”
I did what the man said and stepped forward into the station,
the group of people took a good look at me and left the shadows,
there was 5 of them, they all had the same look on their faces
as I did mine; scared. The man that gave me the order was a tall
African American man, middle aged, he was wearing a camo army
hat.
… “You said your name was Brad?” He calmly asked and I nodded
“Brad, tell us what you are doing down here.” He said putting
his hands on his hips.
… “I came through the tunnel, I’m looking for somebody.” I
somberly said.
The man stepped to the edge of the platform “Who?” The man
simply asked.
… “Claire, Claire Brazing.” I replied.
The group of people talked amongst themselves, I could see them
shaking their heads from under the shadows.
… “Sorry Brad, we don’t know here.” He answered.
I jumped in “I’m not from here, I came from the next town over.”
I said with my arms still raised above my head.
The group of people started talking amongst themselves again,
after a second them man spoke up again “Brad why don’t you join
us.” He said, but this time in a friendlier manner.
I followed the group of people down the platform to a small
office, we all sat down, the man introduced himself “Brad, I’m
John, but everyone calls me JFK, because of my initials.” He
said with a slight chuckle. “I know didn’t know who you were
looking for, but we are looking for some of our friends, Will
and Nancy.” He questioned.
I shook my head “I haven’t seen anybody since I left town.” I
said looking down at the dusty floor.
… “Our friends left to see if they could get help about a day
ago, we have been trying to make contact with them over this
radio but we couldent reach them.” JFK said holding out a little
yellow Walkie Talkie.”
My eyes lit up noticing it was the same radio I picked up off
the table at the cabin, I reached into my backpack and pulled it
out holding it by the antenna letting it dangle for everyone to
see.
Everyone sighed “Where did you get that!?!?” JFK shouted.
… “It was laying on a picnic table next to a small cabin.” I
said still holding the radio.
JKF put his hand over his mouth “Damn, What they hell are they
doing?” he asked himself.
I set the radio down “So can you tell me whats going on here?” I
curiously asked.
JKF took a deep breath “Well, just like the new reports said.
Fuckin zombie’s man! The whole city went to war against its self
and against the zombies, everyday someone is getting shot by
damn marauders or killed by the zombies.” He grimly said. “The
curbs are lined with dead bodies; cars are torched, homes torn
down. It’s pretty much a ghost town, either everyone is dead or
in hiding; we’ll all the normal people like us.” JKF explained.
… “But what about the army.” I asked raising an eyebrow.
… “Ha! All they do is stand around a let us get killed, they
haven’t done shit except help themselves.” Someone smugly said
from the group.
JKF slide his chair forward making the legs of it screech as his
moved it closer to me “Brad, why are you risking your life
coming here?!” He asked in all seriousness, everyone in the
group curiously peer at me.
I pulled out the note from Claire out of my shirt pocket and
handed it to JFK, I got this letter from my ex wife about 2
weeks after the outbreak, after the city was barricaded. After
sitting around, I had to come here, I have to find her.” I
stubbornly said.
JKF grinned “Damn, she must really mean something to you.” He
said in a shocked tone.
I scratched the back of my head “Well it’s not just her, but my
daughter, Ellia, I haven’t seen her since she was an infant, I
haven’t seen Clair since either.” I muttered out.
… “What about you guys, why don’t you leave?” I asked.
… “Its not the easy” JFK quickly snapped back. “We can’t just
leave and forget this shit, this is our city, we gotta fight for
it, this aint just gonna go away, I’m tellin ya right now, these
barricades aint gonna hold them monsters back forever, there
might already be some infected outside of these walls as we
speak. We gotta hold on to what we got, you know what I’m
saying.
Everyone remained quiet “Plus we’re here to keep fools like
yourself from walking into this city and getting kill.” JKF
barked out while slapping his hands on his knees then gave me a
good look “But, with your situation I’m giving you permission to
come in my city boi.”
I gave a disgruntled smile “But we can’t help you Brad, we gotta
stay here and hold down the fort, but why don’t you stay the
night here and head off in the morning, being outside in the
night is just plain stupid.” JKF said standing up from his seat
“You can use Wills bed over there, and the bathroom is in the
next room over.” JKF said.
I thanked him and went to the bathroom, I looked myself over in
the dirty mirror “My head was getting shaggy, my facial hair was
coming in rough patches, I noticed I still had Claire’s letter
balled up in my fist, I slid it into my shirt pocket. My nice
new long sleeve button up shirt was brand new; I bought it from
the new mall 6 months ago and hung it in the closest where it
never moved until today. I played with the dark circles under my
eyes for a minute before getting ready for bed; I went back into
the office where everyone was getting ready to go to sleep.
An older women kneeled in the middle of the room and everyone
stopped what they were doing as she began to say a prayer,
surprisingly it wasn’t dark, it made me feel peaceful, I guess
she didn’t want to upset or scare anyone. With that in mind I
laid in the Cot that was set up in the side of the room and
tried to fall asleep.
