Sandbox City
By: Matthias King Date: October 27, 2012, 9:32 pm

Since all of us are big fans of sandbox games, I wanted to ask
opinions.
If someone were to create a new sandbox game, featuring a
fictional city, not based on any particular real-world city,
what types of things would you like to see in that city, i.e.
locations, types of buildings, districts, landmarks, interesting
areas, etc...
Anything you can think of that you would ideally want to see in
the sandbox city of your dreams. Be specific if you can, and
say why it matters to you.

This is a good topic ;D ;D
For starters... A prison, a full blown muh fukkin prison. Like
the one from SR2, but even bigger and better. I've missed having
an actual prison to play around in, in a game.
A secret underwater military installation.
A really big desert, like the desert from San Andreas, but
larger and just more dead you know? Where there aren't cars
everywhere you look, someplace you can just get lost. Just Cause
2 tried that and it was decentish, but still wasn't that great.
A map that isn't in the middle of the ocean, or if it is make
the map so enormous that you can't see all ends of the island
when you fly a plane.
Planes/helicopters (a lot of different variants) and several
airports that have a purpose. Many of the SB style games that
have both either barely use them or they aren't used at all.
Vehicles that are different, SR2 did that (most cars were
customized differently), but still there weren't many variants
of cars/motorcycles to choose from.
Skateboards and roller skates hasn't EVERYONE wanted that in a
game? Mods for GTA make it possible, but what you have to go
through to actually make them work is just ridiculous.
A war, think about it... City in one place then keep going and
bam... Middle of a war, like a real war. Have an option for the
war to move into the city or make it so it's part of the story.
Oh and guns... Lots and lots of guns, hundreds of guns each on
customizable. Seriously, take BF3's guns and the Frostbite 2
engine put them in GTA San Andreas or GTA V (whenever it comes
out)... And that would be the GREATEST SANDBOX GAME EVER!!!
Buildings that can be destroyed and respawned upon loading a
save or that part on the map.
All of this would be impossible for todays consoles, but on PC
it would work.
Shit tons of safehouses, mansions, penthouses, shit houses, shit
apartments... and everything in between all the way down to a
box. Or even better... Make that box solid fuckin gold with
windows made of diamonds. It would be the greatest house ever!
The houses would have to be buyable not unlock only, that's
bullshit.
A submarine and air ships that actually go places. Make them
driveable..
I'll add more things later.

Hoohoo is right, this is a good topic. We all can dream 8)
I wouldn't mind a suburban kind of ghetto, SA was too sunny and
happy with palm trees and beaches. I actually would like a
midwest type ghetto not in the heart of the city. Abandoned
homes, factories, and businesses would be fun to go into maybe
using them as hideouts. Freight Trains that run through the
towns. Maybe adding seasons, I would like to play a sandbox in
the fall or winter. Lets shake things up and make it a zombie
sandbox game.

Hoontown, a working class area near the beach, with burnout
marks all over the roads and grass torn up everywhere, cars
parts in gutters and all sorts of customized cars everywhere.
But not expensive, like old cars fitted with new parts to make
them good. Blood stains around the area and ambulances and
police cars are constantly hanging around.
While traveling through the area, you'll see police chases,
random fights on the street and street races.
I just think it would be a neat little area to explore.
Also, hoo hoo's prison would be a cool idea and the "midwest
ghetto sounds fun"

A trailer park like in sr2 and a backwoods redneck town so I can
make a big 4x4 truck with a rebel flag on it and listen to free
bird while hitting jumps!

I want an sandbox game based around the ideaologies of a new
world order.
"find out the worlds best kept secrets as you infiltrate fully
openworld bases such as area 51, order of the cabals, skull and
bones clubhouse for men and odessa caverns. as a reporter your
slowly drawn into a thought out conspiracy that threatens to
destroy humanity, learn the truth before earth is doomed.
- each of the games 22 massive bases are destructable both
inside and out.
- exoctic locations to explore include Atlantis 2.0 and the
bushes skeletal closet.
- offering an assortment of exciting sidequests to undertake,
vehicles to smash and powerful weapons to create chaos.
- intel pickups unlock fun and unimaginative cheats to mess
around with such as alien invasion and zero gravity.
- Fight for freedom against NWO's most legendary elite: The
Nazis, Illuminati, Freemasons and Blackwater Mercs.
ever since playing destroy all humans ive always wanted a game
of this calibur could still be possible but with DLC and season
passes even so it would suck.

I love Deus Ex and the conspiracies in that, I think a game
based on conspiracies with you playing a reporter or similar
would be fantastic. I love the idea of this, it's something the
publisher of Deus Ex could have developed as the Deus Ex series
won't be able to have much more added (we know how it ends).
Something completely new, not part of an established series.
