Re: Saints Row The Third - General Chat (May contain Spoilers)

Overall I'm pretty disappointed with SR3. I was going to post a
full review and get into real detail, but I decided that's a
waste of time, so I'll just say this; the amount of time I
invested in both SR1 and SR2 borders on embarrassing. I put a
ridiculous amount of time into those games. Playing through the
campaign many times, doing the activities a lot, playing the
multiplayer, doing the co-op modes in SR1's multiplayer, doing
campaign co-op in SR2, etc... Now, just over a week after SR3's
release, I've already finished the campaign, 100%'d all the side
stuff, gotten all the achievements, and am generally done with
the game. I don't imagine I'll spend any real time with the
game again until possibly the first significant DLC pack comes
out. That, to me, is sad. And I think it probably sums up my
impression of the game.
So basically, SR3 is good but not great. Good enough for me to
go through it all and finish it all up once, but not great so as
to keep me coming back endlessly. If I can get philosophical
for a moment, if the first two games had, for lack of a better
word, a soul, then SR3 has none. It seems like a pretty box
that when you open up, it's empty. Once you get past the new
engine and improved graphics and some improved game mechanics,
there's not really much else there, and that is really sad.
Incidentally, Volition used to be my favorite game developer,
but now after they first managed to completely ignore fans and
their questionable choices literally killed the Red Faction
franchise, and NOW they've managed to alienate a lot of their
Saints Row fanbase with a host of baffling design, gameplay,
story, and business choices, and arguably damaged the SR
franchise, coupled with their extremely questionable DLC
business and slight of hand about all that whole mess, I no
longer care for Volition as a studio. I don't like the way they
do things and I do like the way they do business.
So I'm just left with a SR3 box on my shelf that will rarely get
played again while I wait for a REAL game studio to release a
game called MASS EFFECT 3 and remind me what a quality game is.

So just played SR:TT and got the other ending (Shaundi dies)....
What a stupid piece of garbage it is. Now to replay and get the
proper ending (in my opinion anyway).

@Shadow to something you mentioned in an earlier post about the
samurai armor and stuff: If I remember correctly, I saw that in
the description of some future DLC. So, as many people here have
said: fuckin' DLC.

Why are people saying the season pass is only a discount? It's
not. They may have made a lot of shit DLC, but they aren't that
shady.

Yeah, they state that it's 15% off for the people that actually
have to buy the season pass, because the price of the season
pass is the price of all of those dlcs minus 15%. You'll
download them for free when they come out. Like the rockstar
pass for l.a. noire.

Just about the Saints Row: The Third development history and
facts.
SAINTS ROW: THE THIRD DEVELOPMENT HISTORY AND FACTS.
Every game goes through an evolution process and sometimes
changes are made late in the cycle if something just doesn't
feel right. A game of this massive scale has had its share of
alterations as well as some give and take. Here are some of the
highlights.
The large steel mill on the north of downtown was nearly cut
several times due to scope, size, and remaining time to get it
done, but ultimately it didn't seem right for Steelport not to
have a steel mill.
The story went through many drastic changes over different
drafts and scope reduction. Here are some of the biggest
changes:
[li]The Syndicate used to be made up of five actors.[/li]
[li]Oleg wasn't cloned, he was a leg breaker of the Syndicate,
who joined the Saints to be with his role model: Josh Birk.
(Thanks for changing this, Volition.)[/li]
[li]Gat didn't die, he was captured and you saved him. (Why, oh
why, did they removed this from Saints Row: The Third. Could be
some bad-ass mission if you'd ask me.)[/li]
[li]Shaundi had a subplot that explored survivor's guilt and
depression.[/li]
[li]Shaundi never appeared in the game at all, instead she was
off filming her reality show in Mexico. At the end of the game
you were to see her unwittingly on a date with Killbane without
his mask on.[/li]
[li]Viola and Kiki both join the Saints. (Actually, to me it
made sense that Viola stepped out the Syndicate in order to join
the Saints instead, why following a leader who killed your
sister. They did actually a good job to get one of the two
sisters getting killed. Now one of the two had at least a good
reason to.)[/li]
[li]The calamity that caused STAG to roll into town changed
multiple times. Originally Killbane set off a dirty bomb that
totally cratered Stilwater. Then it was changed to the Syndicate
destroyed Stilwater in the middle of a convention called Saints
Con, killing thousands of innocent people as well as Tobias and
Laura from Saints Row and Saints Row 2. Next, it was changed to
the blowing up of the Saints church during Gat's funeral.
Finally, it ended up as the destruction of the bridge.[/li]
[li]There was a bonus cutscene planned, after the bridge is
destroyed, where the Saints are singing a "We Are The World"
type of song to raise money for Stilwater.[/li]
[li]In one story draft, if you chose to save Shaundi and Viola
at the end of the game there was a coda after the closing
credits where Shaundi is at Gat's grave. She's upset that the
Saints let Killbane get away and have gone back to being
celebrities again. She is then recruited by Cyrus and joins
STAG.[/li]
[li]Likewise, if you chose the other option to kill Killbane,
there was a coda after the closing credits where an enigmatic
figure was flying into Steelport on a Syndicate jet and the
person accompanying him was Johnny Gat.[/li]

PS: I quoted this, because it's from a book I have. And if you
can see at some points I gave my own personal opinion, between
the ().

What book?
Also, just read Claude's post. What the fuck!? Are you shitting
me? So we have to pay for something that's already in the
goddamn game? My friends tried to tell me that I should get the
PC version. Can't wait until they crack that. It'll probably be
better than the real game.
Also if you can have a shark gun, how come we can't have sharks
in the actual ocean? why isn't that an easter egg?

I thought about getting the guide, can't remember if it was
prima or not (it was the one with the dlc code), but didn't
think the money shot pack wasworth 20-some odd dollars since i
can get everything else in it for free online.
