I was awoken this morning to the sound of scuffling outside my
backdoor; I came to find a note in a manila envelope tucked
under the door.
“But it doesn’t make sense, I quit, I told them I was done, I
wanted to get fired I didn’t care anymore!”
The note bluntly gave me orders to drop everything I was doing
and that I had go on a mission immediately, I basically had to
start a new life and become a new person, that was the kind of
work I did back in the day.
“I’ve changed my name and personal style so much, I forget who I
am sometimes, but it doesn’t matter I’m a nobody anyways!”
I had to leave home and go to the destination that was enclosed
in the envelope, I had to drop whatever plans I had for the day,
or even the week and rush to a little hick town in the middle of
“nowhere” Mississippi and wait, I dident even have time to have
a drink before I left.
“Ok, I always have time for a drink!”
I ran to the local thrift store and found some ratty old
clothes, and then to a used car dealer to get a vehicle, I
signed the deed to the car with my new name.
“You want to know my real name, just call me John Corry, I
guess... Funny, I don’t really look like a John, I should of
picked something different, oh well too late!”
I drove over to the gas station, filled the tank up with gas and
grabbed a 6 back of the cheapest domestic beer I could find,
next stop “Nowhere Mississippi.”
All I have to name is a beat to hell 1970 Oldsmobile Delta 88, a
small wad of 20 dollar bills and a case of Pabts Blue ribbon.
Actually I can’t hold anything to
my name, I don’t really have one!”
I’ve never been to the country; I never wanted to go, but the
note had me mystified, why would the people I once worked for
randomly give me a job and explain absolutely nothing to me, no
briefing, no information on my dossier, the only thing it told
me was where I was going and once I got there, was to wait.
“Wait for what? This sounds shady; I’m not in the mood for this
right now. I know that I am driving, but I think I’ll have that
drink now!”
TO BE CONTINUED!

Another chapter and some old Mississippi Delta blues!
HTML http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DX7YwjWRLJY&feature=related
Chapter 1 “Goin’ Down South”
The sights of skyscrapers and big buildings changed into a
vibrant colored forest landscape once I got onto the highway
heading south. Which seemed like an eternity I finally reached
what you could call the “south”, the rows tall pine trees and
fresh country air emptied into vast amounts of dead grass and
large open fields, The air got humid and the inside of the car
got uncomfortable as the air conditioner probably stopped
working 25 years ago on the car, I grew tired and the long never
ending 2 lane blacktop road made me fell dizzy. With only the
company of the A.M radio and the mysterious note tucked in
between the car seats, I started to grow anxious, then I spotted
a road sign peaking over some overgrown grass reading “River
Rouge 50 Miles” A small town that was right near where I was
supposed to be staying.
I reached the town and I was right! The town was so small and
pathetic, that if you blinked your eyes you would have driven
right through it and not even noticed. I swerved to a rundown
looking gas station; the place only had 2 pumps and only one
worked. It felt great to stand up and stretch my legs, if I
would have waited any longer they would of got stuck. Just then
I heard the old screen door bang shut then and a kid came
darting out of the gas station then ran up to me and pulled the
gas pump handle out.
… “How much would you like in your tank sir?” The kid said in a
deep southern accent.
I chuckled a little thinking to myself “They still do that, I
thought people did stuff like that when Andy Griffin was still
being shown on TV.”
I nodded to the kid sporting a pair of tattered overalls and
bare feet “Fill her to the top.” The kid lifted a handle and
started to pump the gas for me “I’m gonna go take a little
walk.” I said bouncing up and down a little trying to get the
blood pumping back in my legs. I walked to the edge of the road
and took a deep breath; it was hard to believe that I drove all
the way out here because a random note told me too! I think I’d
rather be at home right now instead of in the middle of fricken
nowhere I said to myself kicking a pebble into the street.
I looked down the road to see an old beater of a car cruising
towards me, it was an old hot rod from the 50’s era, it had been
stripped of its paint and sprayed all black with countless spots
of rust peeking through the layer of paint, the car turned into
the gas station and pulled up to the side of it, some old
fashion rockabilly music was play from the radio. I pivoted
around expecting some red neck yokel to exit the car, I was
shocked when a smoking hot woman came out of the front seat, and
I mean she was dangerous looking! The women had light orange red
hair pulled tightly into a bun, heavy eye shadow that only made
her bright blue eyes standout even more than they already did.
She unbuttoned her short black leather jacket exposing an almost
see though white tank top.
I smirked hoping there were more women like her around here,
maybe this place aint so bad. I moseyed around the dirt lot back
to my car, I noticed the women look at me; I looked back at her
and with a grin on my face. As she walked into the gas station I
inspected all the curves and perfections of her body, just then
the kid tugged on my jacket “All done sir, 41 dollars and 22
cents.” The kid said holding out his hand. I went into my wallet
and give the kid a 50 because that’s all I had, “I’ll get the
change.” The kid muttered out, “You can keep the change I said.”
The kid’s eyes bugged open “Thank you sir!” The kid then ran
into the gas station. As the kid entered the building the women
came back out.
… “Hey, that’s a Delta 88!” She said walking up to my car, I was
confused at what she was talking about at first, and then it
dawned on me; she was talking about my car!
I rested my hand on the trunk “Yeah.”
…”It’s a 1970 right!” She asked which seemed more like she was
telling me. “Uh huh.” I said really not knowing what year it
was.
The women walked up to the car and turned her body horizontaly
then looked at the side of the car “I can tell because the
grille and head lights are closer to the middle on the 69.” She
said in a relaxed tone, her voice soothed me, besides her
perfect body her voice was also sexy, how exciting!
I spoke up “Yeah!” I mumbled out not knowing what the difference
between a 70’s and 60’s Oldsmobile was or even what a grille was
supposed to be. “This was a great year; these things can run for
ever, they came with a solid 350.” The women said still looking
the car over.
… “I-I wouldn’t say the car runs that good.” I said. “Look at
the body on this thing; I think the hulk used to drive this
car!” I chuckled.
The women stood up and lazily walked around the car tilting her
head from side to side. “It’s not what it looks like on the
outside, it’s the inside that
counts.” She said walking up to the hood of the car.
… “I thought that saying was for misguided people, not rust
bucket cars.” I questioned while taking off my jacket.
… “It is.” The women said as she reached under the bumped then
pulling on something opening up the hood.
I squinted my eyes “Huh?
The women leaned on the hood of the car and looked at the engine
“Yeah, that’s beautiful.” She said biting her lips. “That’s a
350 Rocket!” she said still leaning on the hood.
I walked up to the front of the car “Damn, you sure know a lot
about cars!”
… “Yeah, you’d know a lot about cars if you ran with the people
I know.”
I noticed on her leather jacket a patch with a skull on it with
car pistons as the crossbones on it, with the words “Gasoline
Bandits” Over the top. “You part of a car club or something?” I
asked.
She stopped and looked at me with a sly look on her face “Yeah,
it’s kinda like a club.”
She shut the hood making it kick dust into the air, you’re not
from around here are yuh?” she said with a crooked smile.
I rolled my eyes “How’d you guess.”
… “It’s pretty obvious.” She said looking me over.
I raised an eyebrow “Is that a bad thing?” I said concerned.
…. “As peaceful as this place seems, it can get dangerous. Not
just from the people or the gators that lurk the swamps, this
place is a whole lot different at night, it get still and
consuming, kinda like black ice, if you know what I mean. If you
don’t believe in god or the devil, I think your opinions might
change if you plan on staying around here for a while, because
if a man with some sort of grudge or some kind of pissing match
with the world comes here with something heavy on their mind,
they might learn something.” The women said dusting off her
hands.
I didn’t know how to respond to that “Just a little something to
think about.” She said walking away from the car.
… Hey, maybe I’ll see yuh around again, stop by the bar
sometime.” She said walking back to her car.
… “Maybe you can give me a ride in your car.” She hollered out
as she walked backwards to her car.
I balled up my jacket and tossed it into my car “What makes you
think I’m not just passing through?” I wittily said.
The women got into her car and leaned out the window “Because if
you were passing through you would have been gone already.” She
said then promptly started her car letting it roar, she slowly
drove past me and gave me a little salute as she drove by, I
smiled.
I got into my car and started it up “She’s right, I should have
been out of here 5 minutes ago.”
TO BE CONTINUED!!!
Wow, I didn’t notice how long I made this chapter; I just got
caught up in the written lol!
