Essentially I agree with you that there have been a lot of very
bad things happen supposedly because of, or in the name of
religion.
Where I tend to differ from you is where I accept or not that
religion itself is the real cause...
Now I am by no means an expert or a historian so please if I get
something wrong, then correct me?
I thought that the Holocaust was more about Hitler's hatred for
the Jews and was more about ethnic cleansing than religion per
se. Was Hitler even a hugely religious man?
9/11 I think a lot of people would say that was more about the
Terrorist's hatred of America than their religious beliefs...
I thought the French revolution was more about peasants uprising
against the aristocrats...
Of course I could be wrong and I don't want to upset anyone so
please don't be offended by my comments/questions?

osama bin laden ordered his followers to do what they did on
9/11 because America invaded the "holy land" during the Gulf War
and never left. America has no intention of becoming entirely
muslim and most Americans are either christian's or catholics.
That is something that also fueled the plight.
The Holocaust wasn't only Hitler's hatred for the Jews, but had
there been no religion the Jew's wouldn't be the Jew's so there
would have been no one for Hitler to hate, and Hitler would
never have tried to rise to power.
The French Revolution was meant to overthrow those in power at
the time so as to make a fair and better nation for the the
revolutionaries. Something they fought for was ideology and
belief. Had there been no religion, the revolutionaries would
not have fought for the belief part. If they hadn't fought for
belief then the may not have been as bad as it was.

I'm sorry but to say that religion not existing wouldn't cause
those massive events is kind of nieve don't you think? for
example say religion never occured in the past 2000 or more
years who is to say that bigger wars or events wouldn't happen?
There will always be folks like Uncle Joe and Hitler out there
targeting people for stupid reasons whether its religion, race,
money or viewpoints.
The point is whats done is done you get one life and its down to
you to make the difference in this world but the whole point is
to leave this world how you found it or at least make it a
little better. You can debate this for the next million years
the answers will still be the same due to free will and
everyones different views on the world there will never be one
true answer on one side of the fence because it would upset the
balance of everything.

This^^^^ I don't mind hearing about how others see religion but
we have to respect others views, I have a very mixed view of
religion and am in contact with people who believe different
things on a daily basis I am a 100% respectful towards them.
To be honest I don't live my life following any religion, I know
whats right and I know whats wrong and thats enough for me.
Religion is a very strong subject for some people and If I see
this thread go out of hand I will have to lock it down.

Yeah I think everyone here is being respectful Ayngel...
The thing is religion and religious debating will always stir up
strong feelings, especially in those that already feel strongly
about the subject...
I don't have any problem with the way this discussion is going,
and I am always open to different ideas on the subject...
I'm still convinced that the real motives behind the examples
presented is Greed, Racism, Xenophobia, and desperation
(Revolution)...
How much of a roll has Oil for example played a part in the
whole "Holy land" invasion?
Hitler's idealogical Arian super race had nothing to do with
faith or belief did it?
The French Revolutionaries were surely just sick and tired of
the massive gap between those with title and those starving
weren't they?
I realise of course that religion has been used or blamed for
the atrocities here, but I can't help but think that it's all
too easy to tell "the people" that you are committing an
atrocity in the name of Good or [insert religious icon here] as
a diversion...
Ask yourself if it's OK to do a bad thing for the greater good?
You'll probably say well yes of course it is...
That's what these bad people prey on...

I met a bloke once who burned down a church because god told him
to.
He was later admitted to a Mental Asylum.

All I have to say is I believe I. jebus( Homer voice).. Lol I
mean Jesus and God but I have no religion... Get what I'm
saying? So on the rare times I myself, go to church, I go to a
non denominational church, one that teaches about that Nd only
that. Oh and karmaa is very real
