Religious Debating
By: Aussie Boy Date: January 13, 2012, 6:12 am

Alright here is for a Religious Discussions so we don't clog the
Chat Thread up.
A couple of things I reckon we need to talk about.
The Muslim Religion was based around peace, but they use
violence and war against non believers.
Jesus is a boss!
And we all need something to believe in.

I believe there is a God, or a creator of everything, but to me
everything else is just not there. I think Jesus did live and he
was a real person, but I think what he did was over exaggerated.
My opinion on the Muslim religion is that the higher up people
in it have gone mad with power and it has turned into a giant
cult. Like ALL churches it have at one point it has gone
corrupt. Trying to exploit it's power for money and an expansion
of influence and property.<--- (this word looks out of place,
had another word in mind then forgot it)

I don't believe there is a god at all. I believe we evolved into
what we are today and that God, in any form, is a figment of the
imagination. I also believe that religion causes more harm than
good and that the world would be better off (not much, mind you.
because people are people and will always find something to kill
each other over.) without it.

I think we evolved into what we are as well, but I think there
is something out there that started it all. Even if it is just a
small particle of matter.

Religion like everything has its pro's and cons IMO Religion is
there as a guide to how to live your life not the point where
you follow it to every letter but you just apply to your
situations you might come up against. The main problem for me
with religion is the ones with the power to influence within
those certain orders will misconstrue things to fit their own
agendas look at the whole Al Qaeda group for example.

I'm not religious at all...But maybe (A god) Created evolution
"To an extant" and let everything works its way after that.

I think I'd have to go with classic Epicurus here:
"Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not
omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? then he is malevolent.
Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he
neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?"
Sure, it's not the strongest reasoning I've heard, mainly
because logic and forward thinking can bring about many great
insights, but it still illustrates fairly well one of many
points. And for the people who say that without religion,
immorality will run rampant and there will be nothing to hold us
back from doing bad things: First I must ask, What is good and
what is evil? To every person, what most would consider good has
seemed evil, and what most would consider evil has seemed good
at some point. Good and evil are man made concepts. Do I think
the idea of good and evil is a bad thing though? Absolutely not.
It's instinctual. Every person has their own ideas about what's
acceptable and what's not. And personally, I'm glad that most of
us agree on what some of those wrong things are. Got a bit
sidetracked, but what I'm trying to say is that it doesn't take
religion to make good people. In fact I have another quote I'd
like to share on just that subject.
"With or without religion, you would have good people doing good
things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to
do evil things, that takes religion." - Steven Weinberg
For now that is all. Maybe as this discussion goes further I
will have more to add.
