I have 5 strand of wire around everything that I own it could
still happen but have had good luck so far. :thumbsup:

Deer and coons, bear for that matter don't like those hot wires.
Usually you may have to put it back up a time or two with the
bears. I know when I was still messing with a garden I found
that was the only option here.
Come to think of it I don't like getting shocked worth a damn.

I am kinda serious about protecting what little I have picked
a rabbit off it last week after I turned it off first. ;)

im serious too, i sprayed roundup on all the grass down both
sides of the vines... it think that coupled with a wet summer
(or was wet, dry now) helped with no water going to waste. all
of it went toward the vines.

You don't want grass or anything else competing with the roots
from the grapes but be careful with the roundup. Dale it would
be best to use weed blocker and mulch on top of it to control
the grass. :thumbsup:

my neighbor said it was ok to spray directly only bark or roots
of the plant even, that it would not poison it. i was doubtful,
but he assured me, and it worked... i wouldnt have taken his
advice except he's in the field of weed management, a consultant
or something. the thing i worry with on mulch beds, is that its
a prime habitat for jap beetles... i try to keep the trunks
clean, even around the posts, and that has lessened the need for
spray or pesticides because there is no place for them to live
near the vine. its just bare ground. not totally bare, but dead
grass on top . ;D

I have been spraying roundup under my vines
for years as long as you don't get it on the leaves
you are ok.

Boys glyphosate is a systemic not a contact hebicide. Now I am
no expert but the Gov spent thousands of your dollars trying to
school me. :Mick: Plants DO take up nutrients etc through the
bark and for sure the roots. Of course the leaves is the quick
route for a herbicide to work. But you fog that bark or spray
heavy and it get to the root system and you will have damage to
the plant. May not kill it but you will have reduced yeilds and
growth.
I wish I had some of the films we viewed of the studies of trees
that were sprayed in test plots that were 5-7" caliper. All were
viewed with tie lapse potography. The trees that were not
allowed to have drift on the bark and roots were much more
healthy.

sorry fish, i gotta go with the neighbor. :icon_nana:
muscadine vines have roots as shallow as half an inch, but i
still sprayed it all around the trunks, and they all got wet.
all the grass died, but this has been the best year yet for my
vines.
