Damn sure I ain't old yet but we call it goat weed also. Find
you a big patch and cut strips every few weeks and the game
warden will be thinking you baited the doves in there with crack
corn and sunflowers.

That pic is wooley croton. It ripens towards the end of dove
season.. Tropical croton, that grows crazy in crop fields here,
is ripe at the perfect time. You can buy wooley croton from
several seed companies. I've tried so many times to save an
replant tropical dove weed, with little success. Each stalk has
so many stages of seed. In a whole bush, only a few seeds may be
far enuff along to replant... I always heard it come to the
south with the cotton, but i dunno??? What i do know is a dove
will fly straight over millet, corn, sunflowers, proco, whatever
to get the stuff. Its crazy!!!!

Hey, John. I have a question for you. Does Nat-gear, Code Scribe
and Wildlife Solutions sponsor you to appear on Squirrel Haters?
I was sponsored by Koonts Skinners, and made it all the way up
to Pro Staff for a while, but got booted off for pretentious
behaviour (it's just a squirrel skinner), so I'm here on my own
nickel now. :-\

After no replies from the northern growers on here I'm thinking
goat weed is a southern thang. :rebel:

I've never heard of anybody trying to plant it on purpose. We
spray the crap out of it to keep it out of hayfields. A new
cutover will be covered with it the first year, so it can't be
that hard to start. Most of ours is not mature enough to hunt
over until after opening weekend of dove season, which is the
only time we hunt.
