I'm going to guess dogstoothe doesn't like many Westerns, at
least of the Ford/Hawks variety. They all have an element of
"corn" if you look at it that way. I on the other hand like 'em
quite a bit.
Next week is "Repo Man" because a character in an Elmore Leonard
novel is very much taken by Harry Dean Stanton and the film.
Like SO many movies, it's good for about 30-45 minutes.

"Repo Man" it is then. Jeter, I quite liked "Shane", but that's
not a Ford/Hawks, so yeah, I guess you is right. Eastwood's
"Unforgiven" on first view I thought was exceptional, but the
second time around not so much. I do like him though, as an
actor and as a director.

Gene Hackman is always good, but he was REALLY good in
"Unforgiven".
You wanna see a true cult western, where things are really
strange and upside-down in a way, check out "Johnny Guitar".

I will. Sterling Hayden is one of my favorite, if not the
favorite, actors. I've seen "Johnny Guitar" but it's been a
while and I need to see it with new eyes. Agree about Hackman.
Loved him as Popeye Doyle, "The French Connection" (#1) is
terrific. Thanks for the tips. The library is hard for new
releases but the older classics seem to stay on the shelfs.

I've changed my mind to Harry Dean (Zen) Stanton.

Hahahh, at around 4:00 or so, I like how what's happening on
stage just ceases to make any sense at all. I like how they
brought the trapeze bit back much later for "She's a Beauty".
Conceptual Continuity.
Also, how coincidental, just today purchased the newly released
NTSC DVD of their Wild West Show from 2004, previously only
available on PAL. Evidently European audiences have more of a
stomach for the incredibly retarted.
