       Mohammad El Akkari scores 113
Mohammad El Akkari joined the exclusive 100-point-game club when
he scored 113 in a Lebanese league game Tuesday.
Akkari, a 27-year-old guard for Moutahed of Tripoli who went in
averaging only 7.6 points in 23 games, made 40-of-69 shots,
including 32-of-59 3-pointers, according to fibaasia.net. He had
       only one free throw.
"Thank God for this performance. I think it's all a result of my
practice," Akkari said, according to fibaasia.net. "I also want
to thank my coach for letting me play that long and all my
       teammates for helping."
Records show that this was the first 100-point performance in an
official game in any league of the FIBA Asia National
       Federations.

John Calipari not interested in NBA
       By Andy Katz | ESPN.com | Updated: April 4, 2012, 3:46 PM ET
Kentucky coach John Calipari said Wednesday he isn't going to
coach the New York Knicks or any other NBA franchise for the
       foreseeable future.
"Kentucky is the best job in basketball coaching," Calipari
said. "Why would I leave? We just won the national title. We're
       chasing UCLA."
Kentucky's title win over Kansas on Monday night in New Orleans
gave the school eight national men's basketball titles, three
       short of UCLA's all-time record of 11.
Calipari said no NBA team has contacted him about an opening,
including the Knicks, which are being coached by Mike Woodson on
an interim basis after Mike D'Antoni was fired.
Calipari coached the New Jersey Nets for three seasons after he
took UMass to the Final Four in 1996. He was fired by the Nets
20 games into his third season, in 1998-99.

Coach: Dwight Howard wants me out
       By Ian O'Connor | ESPNNewYork.com | Updated: April 5, 2012, 3:54
       PM ET
ORLANDO, Fla. -- Stan Van Gundy said he knows his franchise
player, Dwight Howard, has asked that he be fired as coach of
the Orlando Magic, and get this: Van Gundy claimed his sources
       are better than any reporter's.
"I was told it was true by people in our management," Van Gundy
said Thursday, just hours before the Magic hosted the New York
Knicks. "So right from the top."
In what had to be one of the most bizarre game-day scenes in NBA
history, Van Gundy confirmed a WKMG-TV report that Howard is
pushing for his ouster, and did so right before the center
walked through a circle of news media members and embraced his
       coach.
"They haven't told me anything," Van Gundy said of Orlando
management, "and they don't need to. I'm the coach right now,
and I'm the coach until they decide I'm not the coach. It's
12:02 right now. If they want to fire me at 12:05, I'll go home
and find something to do. I'll have a good day."
Clearly unaware of the stunning claim Van Gundy had made, Howard
suddenly appeared at his side and put his right arm around the
       coach.

Arkansas coach Bobby Petrino had female passenger on motorcycle
       ride that ended in crash
       By Associated Press,
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Arkansas coach Bobby Petrino had a female
passenger with him during a weekend motorcycle ride that ended
with a crash that sent him to the hospital, according to a
       police report released Thursday.
Petrino was with former Arkansas volleyball player and current
       Razorback Foundation fundraiser Jessica Dorrell.
Petrino, who is married with four children, didn’t mention he
had a passenger during a news conference on Tuesday, two days
after Sunday’s accident, and a school statement that day quoted
Petrino’s family as saying “no other individuals” were involved.
The 51-year-old Petrino also said Tuesday that he had spent the
day with his wife, Becky, at a lake and was going for an evening
ride. Dorrell, 25, didn’t immediately return a message seeking
comment. A Petrino spokesman, Zack Higbee, declined immediate
       comment.

Cuban: Make players stay 3 years in NCAA
Mark Cuban not fan of 1 and done
       By Tim MacMahon | ESPNDallas.com | Updated: April 5, 2012, 11:20
       AM ET
DALLAS -- NBA commissioner David Stern and Dallas Mavericks
owner Mark Cuban, a pair of basketball power brokers who have
differed on plenty of topics over the years, agree that they'd
like to get rid of the one-and-done trend with draft prospects.
The rules currently require an American player to be at least 19
years old and a year out of high school before he can declare
for the NBA draft, which is why the lottery is littered with
phenoms coming off their college freshman seasons each year.
Stern said Tuesday that he'd like to add a year to the rule.
Cuban wants to take it a step further, requiring players to wait
three years after their high school class graduates to become
       draft-eligible.
"I just think there's every good reason to do it, which is
obviously why we didn't do it," Cuban said sarcastically, adding
that Kentucky fans were the only people who like the
       one-and-done concept.

regret that I have not publicly acknowledged a passenger on the
vehicle. I have been in constant pain, medicated and the
circumstances involving the wreck have come out in bits and
pieces. That said I certainly had a concern about Jessica
Dorrell's name being revealed. In my press conference, I
referred to her simply as 'a lady'. My concern was to protect my
family and a previous inappropriate relationship from becoming
public. In hindsight, I showed a serious mistake in judgment
when I chose not to be more specific about those details. Today,
I've acknowledged this previous inappropriate relationship with
my family and those within the athletic department

FIU dismisses Isiah Thomas as men's basketball coach

Isiah Thomas, who came to FIU in 2009 amid much fanfare, was let
go Friday as coach after a 26-65 record in three seasons.
       BY BARRY JACKSON - bjackson@MiamiHerald.com
Former NBA star Isiah Thomas, the most ballyhooed coaching hire
in Florida International University history, was fired as men’s
basketball coach on Friday, more than a month after completing
an 8-21 season, his third losing season in as many years with
       the school.
"I want to thank Isiah Thomas for his three years at FIU,” FIU
executive director of sports entertainment Pete Garcia said in a
statement. "However, we have decided to take the program in a
       different direction."
Garcia did not elaborate, and wasn't immediately available for
additional comment. FIU said it immediately will begin a
       national search for a replacement.
FIU went 7-25 and 11-19 in his first two seasons. He leaves the
Panthers with a record of 26-65.
