Sounds like Melton and I have about the same opinion, except I
think they'll be below .500 this year.
Next year, they will be good.

Because Chicago needed an interpreter to understand Ozzie
Guillen's mea culpa news conference Tuesday in Miami, I offer a
quickie local translation for the entire saga: Thank goodness
he's gone.
The Marlins got exactly what they paid for: $2.5 million a year
worth of distractions that have absolutely nothing to do with
baseball. I wonder if they could hear the laughter from the
South Side in South Florida.
Guillen can be a terrific manager when focused but, as the White
Sox found out the hard way, once he feels empowered and
invincible, that happens as frequently as he says no comment. It
probably took Guillen the last five years to wear out his
welcome in Chicago. In Miami, it took five games. Is there a
Cuban term for baseball annulment?
The man who was on "bended knees" begging for forgiveness for
offending the Cuban-American community should hit the floor
again to give thanks he still has a job. A five-game suspension
from the Marlins revealed team owner Jeffrey Loria as a
charitable soul. Loria could have been justified in firing
Guillen given how much of a potential marketing disaster he has
become.
In a sports world where perception trumps reality, the new face
of the Marlins franchise just became a symbol of pro-Castroism
for a baseball team that plays in Miami's Little Havana.

Well, I wasn't listening all that closely, it's all the same
blahblah baseball talk, I was trying to say hi and move on,
especially on Sunday morning, not big on socializin'. But he and
Mrs. JohnJeter were. Mrs. JohnJeter is ALWAYS up for
socializin'.

Returning to his midday talk show Monday after a six-week
absence, veteran radio host Dan McNeil told listeners he’d
suffered “what best could be described as a nervous breakdown”
and had sought treatment for depression and substance abuse.
“I can’t promise anything about down the road, but I know today,
as I have been for the last six weeks, [I’m] pretty happy to be
substance free,” McNeil, 50, said in the opening of his first
show back on CBS Radio sports/talk WSCR-AM (670). “Real joy has
returned to my life.”
Until McNeil delivered his remarks Monday, Score listeners were
told only that he was away dealing with “health and wellness
issues.” In the interim, Laurence Holmes and others filled in
for him alongside co-host Matt Spiegel. McNeil announced his
return on Facebook March 28.
McNeil said his problem started when he stopped taking Lamictal,
the mood-stabilizing drug he’d been prescribed “after a long
time of fighting temper tantrums and depression and anger and
resentment.” Because it resulted in chronic fatigue — a common
side-effect of the drug — he simply quit taking it.

Good for Robin for actually making the team work on
fundamentals!
Practice, practice: The Sox have resurrected infield practice
before the first game of road series.
"I've always felt it was necessary, if it all works out,"
manager Robin Ventura said. "Outfielders throwing to bases, you
can't really do that in batting practice. You're asking a guy to
throw a ball to home plate when he hasn't done it at that field.
"Unless you actually do it, you might do it once every three
weeks or a month. I like them to do it on the field and be
comfortable. You can make adjustments, but you can't make
adjustments if you're doing it once every two or three weeks."
