still, fascinating. there's never an easy answer to major
historical events like the CW. what a crazy period in our
history. we do really suck pretty bad

Funny that you imply that west of Halsted is dangerous... I
guess I haven't seen that but then again I only make it in to
Chicago once or twice a year. I've been reading/hearing that
Bridgeport generally is on the upswing and that McKinley Park is
next.
Do you know about the Patio Theatre on the NW Side? It dates
from the '20s and was recently refurbished and reopened. There
are hopes to do a similar rehab on the Ramova (bigger and
fancier sister to the North Side's Music Box) in Bridgeport.
I love old theaters.

Is that prison one of the cool looking old castellated ones from
the mid-19th century?

My understanding was that Bridgeport has always been fairly
safe, due to large # cops living there, Daleys, etc.
Just saw a piece on the Patio on TV this am. Looks like they're
running recent (but not first-run) movies for $5 and the
concessions are cheaper than your googolplexes as well. Need to
check that out. . .but I'm not going to see "Thor" there.
I know a couple of little kids got shot in Avondale yesterday,
but I believe the W. Irving Park area where the Patio is is
still relatively ok. For now, but probably a good idea to enjoy
now.

Yep and it IS cool. Joliet limestone.
By the same architect who did the Water Tower, which, given
what's going on in THAT neighborhood, should be converted to a
prison.
