A conspiracy theory of sorts has the White Sox intentionally
leaving top prospect Dayan Viciedo at Class AAA Charlotte until
some unnamed date this week to ensure he won’t eclipse a full
       year of service time.
That, in turn, would allow the Sox to delay Viciedo’s free
       agency by a year.
One source scoffed at the logic, considering Viciedo accumulated
only 83 days of major-league service last season and couldn’t
become a free agent until amassing the required six years.
That is a long, long ways off.
“There is no magic date next week,” the source said Saturday. “I
have seen some of the speculation out there, but a lot of it is
based upon not having a full understanding of the rules.”

fangraphs had a report on players' prime years. Can't remember
the specifics, but their conclusion was that, basically,
pitchers should come up as soon as they are even close to being
ready. Prime years were something like 21-27. For hitters, it
was actually older, more like 24-30. The super-2 thing is not
an issue, but Kenny may be very closely looking at the value
Viciedo may have in 2011, and thinking why waste a year toward
free agency, when he may just be getting in his prime then.

If he is, that's the wrong thing to look at. With improvements
needed and no money to spend, he has to look at the farm.
Pierre's VORP tells us that any schmoe would be better than he.

This guy has been giving up runs like candy in a 4th of July
parade. Does Kenny know our batters don't get to face him?

In April 2010, the White Sox signed pitcher Dylan Axelrod —
nephew of agent Barry Axelrod — to a minor league, free-agent
       contract, probably for organizational depth.
But they may have found themselves a player. The 25-year-old
Axelrod recently moved up to Triple-A Charlotte, where he's made
2 starts and allowed 2 earned runs in 13⅔ innings with 13
strikeouts against 2 walks and a 0.951 WHIP.
“He's dealing right now,” said Jake Peavy, who saw Axelrod at
Charlotte. “He's throwing about 93 (mph) and locating. He's
going to pitch in the big leagues.”

He's going to pitch in the big leagues, perhaps as soon as the
       next time I get injured.
