Arrival in Knothole Lake

When Float entered the time machine, she expected to pop out in
the same lab in its early days of construction, or maybe just
somewhere in the village above. She didn't expect to be plunged
directly into the bottom of a freezing lake. Float tried to take
a sharp breath immediately upon feeling the ice-cold
temperature, and would have cursed herself for the mistake if
she wasn't immediately treated to the painful sensation of
drowning. She resisted the urge to thrash around in the water
even as her vision started to become blurry, eyes searching for
any sort of light or indication of direction. Through the
ringing in her ears, she was able to notice her life vest and
inner tube slowly pulling the rest of her body towards the
surface. Feeling an immense wave of gratitude for the floaties,
Float righted herself and started kicking upwards with what
strength she hadn't wasted already.
Float breached the surface, immediately caught up in a fit,
trying to cough out the water in her lungs at the same time as
she tried to inhale the crisp air. She soon managed to cough
most of it up, before ducking her head and throwing up. Fur
plastered to her skin and feeling thoroughly wrung out, Float
started paddling towards the shore, waiting for most of her
thoughts to catch up to her- but very sure things couldn't get
much worse. As she swam, though, the freezing air seemed to gain
a chill, and a heavy object struck her on the head, causing her
to flip into the water again before she could right herself.
Float sputtered in surprise upon surfacing, looking at the round
ice ball in confusion as more fell from the sky, rocking the
waves. Distressed and confused, she started swimming faster,
soon climbing up on what she assumed to be shore- only for the
cold surface to collapse immediately, revealing itself to be ice
forming on the top of the water. Float hunched forward, bracing
herself against the hail as she started crushing the ice in her
path until she came across a piece thick enough to support her
weight. Float stumbled up onto the ice, stumbling on weak knees
as she finally made her way to the shore, tail dragging on the
ground behind her. With a weak sigh, she collapsed on the shore,
close enough to the tree line that most of the hailstones didn't
hit her. She buried her face in the ground, closing her eyes as
she was hit by a wave of exhaustion.
'I'm here...' Float thought to herself finally, not entirely
able to wrap her mind around it. "I'm here," she repeated out
loud, rolling onto her back to stare at the sky. It was like
nothing she'd ever seen; the Knothole from her time had been a
lot...different. There weren't as many buildings above ground,
anyways. She stared upwards blankly for hours, trying to gather
her thoughts as her fur gained a slight frost as the water
froze.

Fem was near to the lake and was doing her usual of watching
through her rifle, as she swivelled it around she caught sight
of Float just lying there. When she spotted her she jumped down
from her snow covered tree and wandered over to her, once over
she leaned over her so her eyes met with hers and smiled.
[I]"You can't honestly be comfortable lying there can you?"[/I]
she said holding out a hand to help her up. [I]"Come on, we
should get you somewhere heated."[/I] she pointed out.

Float blinked as a blue head appeared in her vision, eyes
crossing slightly as she focused on the face. "H-h-huh?
W-who..." As she regained her focus, she suddenly became aware
of her uncontrollable shivers and the sharp chattering of her
teeth. Startled, she tried to move her arm, and found that the
movement was accompanied by the cracking of a thin layer of ice.
Float tried to speak again, but found that she couldn't, at
least not without running the risk of biting her tongue off.
Instead she closed her mouth tightly and took the blue hybrid's
hand, rising shakily to her feet. Entirely exposed to the wind
now, she was surprised to find that she was even colder. She had
never remembered ever having such freezing temperatures back
home... Not trusting herself to reply, Float simply nodded at
Fem's suggestion, still holding the girl's hand in her own. Her
other arm held a tight grip on her inner tube, and may or may
not have frozen to the plastic.

Fem quickly dragged the girl along to the nearby huts of the old
time village close to the lake, one of the huts had the door
barely hanging on and she made this her choice of one to get
things going in, she shoulder barged the door and it flew open
before she led her new companion in side, there was a few logs
left in the fireplace but how would they be lit? [I]"Well our
luck's in town. Just let me find something to light it."[/I] she
said determinedly as she started to rummage around the hut
looking for a way to light the fire. She seemed pretty
determined to help out whom she had just rescued, maybe it was
just her 'instinct to help people', maybe it was because she was
a girl like her. Whatever the cause, Fem was determined to stop
her from being severely damaged by the cold weather.

Float trailed after Fem quietly, shakily sitting down by the
fireplace when they arrived in the hut. She was glad to be away
from the wind and hail, and took the opportunity to look around
while Fem searched for something to light the fire with. Trying
to ignore the ice breaking off of her fur as she moved, Float
stretched her arm out to touch the cover of a dusty book of
fairy tales on the bedside. She extended her arm further,
getting a better grip on the book before pulling it towards
herself. Her shakiness had weakened her grip, however, and she
accidentally dropped the book on the floor. Wincing, she set her
inner tube to the side before leaning forward to pick up the
book and place it on her lap.
Float did her best to brush off the dust, looking quietly at the
cover as she kicked off her shoes. 'If you wear wet clothes,'
Float recalled, 'You'll be more likely to get sick. That's what
dad used to say whenever Terios pushed Sapph into the lake...'
Float half-closed her eyes, her vision growing distant at the
memory. Even though it had been annoying at the time, in
hindsight those incidents and others with her friends had given
her lots of experience that she had taken for granted. She
closed her eyes, wanting to appreciate the memories before they
inevitably lead to what had happened recently. She looked down
at the book in her hands, opening it. "M-m-mom used t-to r-read
this to us..." The book held many fond memories for her. She had
heard that her mother had told the stories inside to Tails when
he had been a child, too, but she didn't believe that the book
was so old. Apparently she had been wrong.
Float shook her head slightly, more ice flaking off her fur,
before looking over at Fem. "T-th-thank you, m-miss..."

[I]"Save your energy for warming up alright?"[/I] she advised to
her. So far she was having no luck finding something that could
light the fire. Then an idea hit her. [I]"Alright I have an
idea, though risky."[/I] she said as she took out her rifle and
aimed at the logs. [I]"Castela Council, Armory of fire!"[/I] she
said as her rifle set on fire for a second. Making sure to keep
her aim distanced from Float she fired a flame imbued shot at
the logs. The shot pierced straight through the log leaving
flames in its wake, this setting the log, and the fire, alight.
Having done what she could to help the girl she looked over to
her and sat down next to her. [I]"you'll be alright, I'm
sure."[/I] she said comfortingly.

Float nodded quietly, moving to take of her life jacket so that
her fur could dry properly. Her eyes widened and she gasped upon
seeing Fem lighting the fire. "O-oh my g-goodness..!" Float's
hands moved to cover her mouth in surprise. She looked up at Fem
with something like awe decorating her features. "T-that was...
h-h-how..?" Her gaze fell again onto the fire. 'I've never seen
anything like that..! It was like a Chaos Spear, but she doesn't
even look tired..!' Float pulled her legs up onto the chair,
wrapping her arms and tail around them and curling in on
herself. 'If everyone here has powers like that...' Float mused
to herself quietly, still looking amazed, though now with a tint
of dismay. "M-m-maybe I s-shouldn't have c-come here..." Float
mumbled to herself, not seeming to realize that she had spoken
out loud.

[I]"As one of the commanders of my city's armada they granted me
psychic access to the elements of our Armory hon. I just choose
to channel it through my rifle is all. It's nothing to be
worried about."[/I] she said before catching what she said about
'not coming here'. [I]"Not come here? What d'you mean by that?
You've not been any trouble."[/I] she said thinking that she
thought that she was being a hinderance.

"O-oh..." Float replied quietly. 'Psychic access to another
place... I didn't even realize that was possible! I wonder how
it works? It could be a huge help back home.' Glanced up at Fem,
considering asking her for more details, but decided against it
and returned her gaze downwards. The cyan hedgefox caught her
gaze again when she spoke, reassuringly, causing Float to blink
in surprise. "N-no, I... S-sorry..." She bit her lip, wondering
what to do. On one hand, she could try to explain her
situation... but the hybrid hadn't asked for her life story,
that was ridiculous, and she shouldn't impose on her... 'Maybe
she could help, though..?' Float thought to herself. Of course,
she didn't even know the girl... she had just helped Float,
though, and she didn't have to tell her everything. No, maybe
just what she was looking for? But how much should she say?
"S-Sapphire," Float blurted, before realizing that was literally
the least amount of information she could have given and that it
probably made no sense. "Um, I m-mean, have y-you seen... uh..."
Her ears folded back as she fumbled over her words. Maybe this
wasn't a good idea. "H-hedgehog? B-blue... um..." 'Oh, stop
while you're ahead! You've already made a complete fool of
yourself!' Float scolded herself mentally, hiding her face in
her hands out of embarrassment.

Hearing the word 'Sapphire' and the description of the girl she
saw as her other-dimensional sister left her both smiling
slightly but curious at the same time. [I]"I happen to know who
you mean."[/I] she decided to be straight up about it. [I]"The
girl is almost a sister to me. If we were the same dimension she
probably would have been. How do you know her?"[/I] she asked
the new somewhat suspicious seeming girl putting a hand on her
shoulder. She wouldn't be prepared to help her find her until
she understood how she knew Sapphire, as she was literally her
sister she didn't want her to come to any harm.
