Jungle Bungle: Out of the Bungle, Into the...Museum
DIR By: KateRoseTH

---------------------------------------------------------
As we last left off our heroes, both Kate and Knuckles were on
their way to hunt down Queen Amy (aka. "Queenie") to stop her
from having her revenge with their c,ocky, son-of-a-gun of a
friend, Sonic the Hedgehog. Deciding to cut their losses, they
leave Chomps behind to continue his peaceful life among the
shrubbery in the Jungle Zone, considering the fact that having a
gigantic dinosaur following them around is both distracting and
dangerous to their operation. Before heading off to find the
Royal Highness, however, the two explorers first took a detour
to turn in The Golden Phoenix to "The Committee" and receive her
well-earned prize money.
The two traveled on by Warp Ring into a different Zone until
they reached the grand, ancient city of Spagonia. Many different
cultures of people were sprawling everywhere they went--not
surprisingly, considering that it was currently the middle of
summer, "tourist season". The echidna and the hedgehog strode
down the stone pavement of the main street until they turned the
corner until they spotted the end of the town-home structures
and saw the iconic fountain in the center of a courtyard,
indicating that the large, Roman Italian styled building in the
back of everything was the place they were looking
for...Spagonia University.
As they approached the steps of the building, Kate stopped the
two in their tracks with an arm and turned back to face
Knuckles, looking rather serious. "Okay, so, I heard from 'The
Committee' of the The International Museum of Mobian History and
Artifacts that they were gonna go visit some dude named
Professor Pickle here at Spagonia University while I was out
locating The Golden Phoenix idol. For now, I think it's best to
not mention anything about that Queenie or any other
complications we've encountered...iiiiiiiincluding the fact that
I accidentally 'brought the house down' literally." She paused
awkwardly as she rubbed the back of her head before continuing.
"We should just go in, get the bag of rings, and get out. Simple
as that." With that, she led the way into the building without a
second thought.
Once inside the old-fashioned looking university, they entered
an ambulatory area where some professors and their assistants
were striding past while carrying important looking papers in
their arms. At the end of the large, open space, the council of
archaeologists were conversing amongst each other with what
appeared to be Professor Pickle himself. However, they were also
gathered around a smaller figure who appeared to be Mobian, a
blue, mouse-looking girl. As they drew nearer, their footsteps
making low but echoing thudding noises against the polished,
marble floor, they would be able to distinctly hear the girl
arguing with the archaeologists about something to do with one
of her finds, a shard of shiny green that looked so familiar yet
unfamiliar at the same time to Kate yet, perhaps, familiar to
Knuckles...

"What do you MEAN it isn't authentic?" The blue Pika exclaimed
in disbelief. "Now you're just talking out yer tail! This is an
real deal one-of-a-kind Chaos Artifact!" Relic, the adventuring
archeologist hated by most of The Committee, held aloft her
discovery. A sizable fragment of a green gemstone that seemed to
glow with an inner light. "You can't ignore all the evidence!
This time you have to admit I'm right!"
Professor Pickle, professor of the University and retired member
of the Committee, coughed and adjusted his bowtie. Before he
could speak, however, he was interrupted by the Chairman of the
Committee, a cream-colored mink who had continuously blocked the
budding archeologist at every turn. "On the contrary, dear, we
don't have to admit to anything," the snootily-voiced historian
told her condescendingly. Relic grit her teeth in annoyance, but
remained silent. "For all we know, that so-called 'Artifact'
could just be painted glass." Sneering, he daintily touched one
of the jagged edges, prompting Relic to pull the fragment away.
"Cheap painted glass."
The Professor finally spoke, seemingly unphased by the rude
interruption. "Now, now, Montclaire, surely you shouldn't
dismiss the girl outright? She might be on to a wonderful
discovery!" At the Professor's encouragement, the Pika beamed.
Finally some support!
"Uh heh, heh," Montclaire faked clearing his throat, effectively
cutting off Relic before she could speak. "Will all due respect,
Professor, this...discovery, as you called it, is only based on
the word of a child!" He leered down at Relic. "One with a
history of frauds going back generations..."
Relic's face turned red as the more uppity Committee members
joined in Montclaire's stupid, aristocratic snickering. "Now
you've crossed a line, you bloody wanker!" Relic snapped
angrily. "Don't you dare insult my parents! They were two
hundred times the historians you could ever hope to be!" She
clenched the green shard in her hand, ignoring the small cuts it
made in her glove. Montclaire's smug expression as he looked
down on her only made her shake with barely contained rage, and
caused her to have to fight back tears as she realized that he'd
won this round before she'd even walked through the doors. Oh
why, why did she always have to loose her temper?
"A child who throws tantrums is hardly worth our attention,"
Montclaire drawled. "Shall we move, boys? This time we'll leave
the rabble and rats behind." Ignoring or perhaps unaware of the
hidden slur, the same snooty members nodded their agreement.
Professor Pickle frowned in disapproval, but remained silent.

Blaze strutted through the museum door, the bottom of her robe
flowing a bit before settling as the door closed behind the
feline, a raccoon stumbling behind her. The raccoon whined
"Blazey mate! Why'd ya slam the door!~" The feline glanced at
Marine and stated "I didn't. You were holding the door and let
go." The raccoon sighed in defeat, her lies not going to win her
this battle. Blaze smiled as Marine admitted her defeat with her
sigh and the two walked through the museum, eventually spotting
the angered Pika.
Blaze glanced at the upset Pika and walked over to her, Marine
rushing behind. A small tap of the shoulder was given to the
girl as Blaze asked in a caring voice "Are you alright miss~"
Her voice cooed, trying to calm the girl down in one sentence.
Marine simply smiled warmly, something that the little
Australian raccoon did best.

Kate casually but slowly approached the bickering group and
mouse girl with Knuckles by her side, trying to pick up anything
important from them. Hmm...I wonder if they hired her as my
competition... she thought, eyeing the girl with both curiosity
and slight defensiveness. As they came closer, the radiant green
gemstone fragment became even more clear but confused her all
the more. It appeared to have been fractured off from something,
as if it was a part of a whole set of the little shards. Not
only this, but the mouse-looking girl actually looked like a
pika, arguing something about the shard. The girl held up her
discovery as all of the other members of "The Committee" mocked
and ridiculed her. All except for one man--the only human member
who Kate could only assume to be Professor Pickle of this
facility, Spagonia University--who shifted around appearing
rather uncomfortable of the situation.
Another man she did recognize was a cream-colored mink who could
only be the Chairman of the Board, Sir Montclaire, who was
responsible for all of Kate's important assignments and
dangerous adventures. As the mink tugged on his tailcoat jacket
with a pocket watch in his vest and readjusted his spectacles,
he jeered at the little pika with his nose upturned, literally,
and condescended the young explorer with his snooty little
voice, saying that the artifact was actually a fake while all
the others, except for Pickle, murmured in agreement. Professor
Pickle seemed to try to defeat the poor girl, but he was
immediately shot down by the other, higher-ranked position
holders. They continued to taunt the girl as Kate and Knuckles
reached a point where they were merely 20 feet away, now able to
hear everything from this point onward and see as Sir Montclaire
made a snarky remark about the little girl's parents...
"Now you've crossed a line, you bloody ****! Don't you dare
insult my parents! They were two hundred times the historians
you could ever hope to be!"
The girl was shaking violently with anger and frustration,
looking as if she was about to cry, and Kate's heart flew out to
her. She remembered when she herself was younger and having to
prove her worthiness to "The Committee". Cold, alone, hungry,
broke, and still fresh from leaving the Freedom Fighters, she
had found an ad for a skilled explorer and adventurer in a
newspaper while visiting the town of Vestille for a place to
stay for the night. When the then little hedgehog girl got to
the museum there for the first time, everyone scoffed and
chuckled at the fact that a "baby has come with a death wish".
Yet, once they challenged her skills in a simulated trial test,
they were finally convinced of her ability to handle their first
assignment. However, it wasn't until she had retrieved the first
artifact that they were fully convinced of her skills
completely, thus starting this whole routine. So now, Kate saw
herself in the pika's situation, seeing it happening once again
before her very eyes and making her grit her teeth and tighten
her fists around her knapsack strap as she heard Montclaire
drawl on.
"A child who throws tantrums is hardly worth our attention.
Shall we move, boys? This time we'll leave the rabble and rats
behind."
This alarmed the red-orange hedgehog and made her snap her head
back into reality as her prospect buyers were about to leave the
area. She wanted to comfort the young pika girl but she also had
a business exchange to attend to. What to do, what to do...
Just then, she heard the main doors open and she whipped her
head around to see a young cat woman enter the university
followed closely by a rather rowdy little raccoon girl. They
marched straight up to the group and the purple feline directly
addressed the pika girl to console her. Nodding while
half-smiling at the new develoent, Kate decided to, then,
approach "The Committee" to take care of her business so that
she and Knuckles could take off and hunt down "Queenie" Amy.
Before Knuckles could say anything, she rushed over to the group
and announced herself, mainly addressing the Chairman of the
Board. "Wait! Before you go, could you guys accept this and give
me my pay of 100,000 gold rings, please?" she urged, pleadingly,
reaching into her knapsack and revealing The Golden Phoenix
idol, complete with all its placed gemstones and all.

Montclaire looked down at Kate when she spoke. "Oh, finally. At
least there's one girl around here who can get results." He
tipped his nose up and held out his hand for the bag.
"Naturally. We'll talk over your payment with our bankers over
lunch, yes? Sometime tomorrow, perhaps?" The aristocratic mink
adjusted his ascot as he spoke. "Yes, good, fair enough? It's
always such a pleasure working with you, dear."
Knuckles ignored the exchange between Kate and Montclaire,
instead focusing on the relic in the Pika's hand. "Oh, damn it
all..!" Knuckles cursed, eyes widening. If that was what he
thought it was... His thoughts quickly started rushing around in
a rising panic. What had happened while he was gone? How long
was he even gone for? Why hadn't he sensed anything?! He closed
his eyes and tried to sense the presence of the Emerald, only to
find the energies...scattered, and faint. And one of them was in
this very room, as he had thought. Knuckles opened his eyes and
growled, immediately storming over to where the Pika was.
"HEY! You with the blue fur!" Knuckles snapped as he approached,
voice far louder than it had any right to be inside a
university. "Who the hell do you think you are?! Where did you
get that Emerald Shard?!" He grit his teeth angrily. "You'd
better hand it over, right now!"
Back with Kate, Montclaire's eyes widened as the echidna's loud
voice interrupted his ramblings. He sneered over at where
Knuckles had started picking a fight with Relic. "Ugh. Who is
that ruffian?" Montclaire immediately started looking around.
"And where is security? I want that barbarian kicked out of here
immediately, along with whoever let him in! Honestly..!"

Relic looked up as the cat tapped her shoulder. She sniffed and
took off her glasses for a moment to rub her eyes with the back
of her wrist, before replacing the spectacles and smiling weakly
at the regal feline. "I-I'm fine, mate, thanks. I just need a
moment..." She returned the Raccoon's warm smile. "Ain't you a
cute sheila~"
Relic's ears twitched as she heard a furious shout directed at
her. She looked up to see the red echidna's approach- and hear
his demand for the artifact she had discovered. Immediately, she
slipped it into her backpack. "What?! No way! This thing is
mine, and if you think you can steal the artifact I uncovered,
you've got another thing coming!" The echidna's hat and knapsack
reminded her of some of the more rough and tumble treasure
hunters she had encountered, and she wasn't about to give up her
find to someone like that!

Kate held her knapsack with the idol in it close to her chest,
kind of suspicious. They never had to postpone handing over her
fair pay before, and so the Chairman of the Board could be
tricking her. However, she should take into consideration that
they were all currently not at the typical museum meeting place,
so she suppose the arrangement could make sense... After all,
she usually doesn't trust anybody, but especially males. All
except for Sonic, that is...so far.
Swallowing her pride, she decided to not act defiantly but,
instead, made a proposition. "Well, fine. We'll all meet
there...but I'll keep the idol with me 'til then. That way,
there're no 'mistakes'." At that last remark, she smirked
knowingly, as if she was certain the others would try to pull a
fast one on her. After all, the majority of men cannot be
trusted...at least, never fully, as with the exception with
Sonic. "And it's always a pleasure to do business and be paid by
you, too."
When she finished that last comment, Kate suddenly heard a very
angry shouting match going on behind her and Montclaire, and she
groaned, knowing that red echidna must have gotten himself into
some more trouble. Whipping her head around, the red-orange
hedgehog could witness as Knuckles and the Pika fought over
whose right it was to possess the emerald shard the little girl
had just put away into her backpack. She couldn't help but
facepalm herself on the forehead and shake her head at the sight
of the two, wanting to step in and put an end to it all before
he had embarrassed himself completely in front of her
"employer". However, the Chairman of the Board beat her to it
and sneered at the red echidna who started the shouting match,
looking around for security.
Sighing from slight irritability, Kate grumbled, "That won't be
necessary...", and marched straight over there to them and
yanked on one of Knuckles' dreads--not too hard but just firm
enough to get his attention. "And just the heck do you think
you're doing?!" She barked, glaring at the red echidna. "You're
making a big scene!" Then, turning to the pika, she changed her
expression into a more calm one and asked, soothingly, "Are you
okay, gal?"

Montclaire blinked in surprise, not expecting the hedgehog to
rebuff him so readily. "W-well, I-" before he could finish his
sentence, Kate had already gone to deal with Knuckles and Relic.
Put out, Montclaire crossed his arms and glared slightly at the
young group.
"Steal it? Are you kidding? The only thief around here is you!"
Knuckles snapped, before being interrupted by Kate tugging on
his dreadlocks. "Ow! Hey, Carrots, what's the big idea?!" He
glared at the orange hedgehog, putting his hands on his hips and
glaring at her. "I don't think you understand the situation
here, Carrot Top. She has something that belongs to me!" He
snapped, gesturing towards Relic. "And I'm going to get it back.
Simple as that. Get it?"

didn't have enough to deal with. Now you're just making stuff up

Dread Head!"
Relic blinked in surprise as Kate stepped in, before smiling
gratefully. "Aw, thanks, mate! I'm fine, soon as this git gets

glared right back. "Any idea what his damage is?"

and smiled warmly. Marine smiled and responded to the pika
"Thank you kindly mate!~"
