When Worlds Collide [Please Ask Before Joining]
By: Karahl Date: June 20, 2019, 9:53 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
((Set after 'Mendacious Assasination For Hire'.))
Business had been booming as of late for the feline assasin,
albeit several outcomes didn't turn out like she had expected
but she was grateful for every bit of coin she had earned.
Perhaps it wasn't uncommon for one to think that an assassin had
no heart nor empathy for the lives they cut short, for the
families left behind with an empty void with the loss of loved
ones; how some may do it for the thrill, power and even the
money to put towards themselves... and in some instances they
may be right as the slender feline silently darted across
rooftops, under the guidance of moonlight, with hardly a whisper
of disturbance of every light step and quiet leaps as she
carried something small and fragile tightly wrapped within the
protection of blankets and her arms.
However, Karahl never did it for herself, every kill she made
and every bit of coin she earned went towards her own little
family; The Snow-Claw Clan. It was one of the few things she was
good at and for the tigress her family always came first, so
that also meant carrying on the family tradition, business and
culture with pride, no matter how controversial or just
down-right horrific. Right now though, the smallest one in her
family was in need of her the most tonight as she held the tiger
cub in one arm as she scaled down the building with the other
until she swiftly somersaulted onto the ledge of another nearby
building, picked a lock of a windowsill with acute dexterity of
the fingers in her left hand before slipping right in.
The empty, dark room seemed to exhaled quietly at the presence
of the intruder as the feline navigated through the obstacles of
furniture, equipment and books with ease before slipping though
anither door, then another, then another.
Until finally she came to a stop very close behind a Mobian whom
was still awake at this hour, going about her own business.
Karahl towered over the fennec with narrowed cyan eyes with a
gaze that could cut glass. Like as always she wore her black
uniform and mask with pride as she clutched the bundle of fading
warmth in her arms.
"Doctor Heart." she addressed suddenly with the usual
respectfully-cold tone.

[Set after No Rest For A Freedom Fighter.

Perhaps it was instinct but somehow Sonya Heart knew that she
wasn’t alone. Prior to her feelings of anguish it had been
a painfully mundane evening for the fox medic. After what felt
like an eternal nine hour plus shift her insomnia decided that
getting her head down for a much deserved rest wasn’t
going to be on the agenda. Not that she was surprised when she
worked for extended periods of time like this her body adjusted
itself and she paid the price. Knowing that she was resigned to
her sleepless fate indefinitely she’d gone through the
motions although unlike unusual she’d procrastinated
getting into her pyjamas and so for clothing she still donned
her matching pale blue medical scrubs white appealing but modest
pumps and her crease less crisp doctors coat with the signature
crimson medical cross imprinted across the side. There was
something about putting on her doctors coat that always gave the
self esteem struggling a sense of accomplishment for which she
was grateful.
It was at this point where she’d been about to shrug off
her garment and was flicking on the kettle in preparation for
some chamomile tea that all the hairs on the back of her neck
stood. Her large fluffy ears twitching in the opposing direction
every so often whoever had broken into her humble abode was
unquestionably experienced. And if not for her enhanced hearing
she sure certain she wouldn’t have known that she had an
intruder with the way this mysterious individual conducted
themselves. With various sorts of outcomes running through her
mind in that instant, Sonya found herself discreetly tucking her
kitchen carving knife upward into one of her long coat sleeves
but she was oddly poised considering the circumstances. Probably
because she knew that whatever was going to happen against
whoever this was she wouldn’t allow without a fight. Words
as cold as ice hitting gently against her ears, she managed to
suppress a shudder as she turned to meet the owner of said
voice.
Her own sky blues widening at the sight of the tigress for a
split second before she swiftly regained her professional
composure. Her gaze drifted to the frail looking bundle in her
arms. Something was gravely wrong she could feel it.. but for
the sake of formality she fixed a polite smile across her lips,
deciding that being tactful would be the safest course of action
here. They both knew the answer to what she was going to ask but
she asked anyway.
“Hello there. How can I help you tonight?” All
traces of hostility vanishing from both her expression and tone
Sonya kept her voice levelled mindful of their younger company.

After a moment of silence which had followed Sonya’s
question, a garbled cough gasped through the gaps of the folds
in the blankets. Karahl’s sharp gaze and hardened posture
melted away and giving way to a much more vulnerable and even
frightened demeanour. Her eyes began to flutter as that hardened
stare quickly grew glossy with concern. She took a step back in
realisation that she had broken in with the intention of
sneaking up on the doctor and had been standing too close for
comfort – not exactly the best way to greet someone,
“My apologies, force of habit.” she muttered, voice
even cracking slightly, “In fact there is Doctor, and we
would be ever so grateful. It’s my brother, Kyro, he has
been – is very unwell.”
After a habitual look about her surroundings for any signs of
danger, Karahl crept a little closer and gently parted away the
blankets to make way for a partial view of such a small and
skinny Mobian. His eyes were sealed shut with what had appeared
to be pus, patches of skin were reveal as it was made apparent
that bits of fur had fallen onto the ground during the
unravelling, his frame so frail that bones beneath protruded
beneath his skin quite obviously, the boy’s breathing was
rapid, uneven and shallow and he shuddered from the cold despite
his forehead was burning up.
“Kyro is five years old, he has always needed to have his
health watched closely since he was born but it was no where
near this bad. He could still run, jump and play like any other
normal child, he was just tires more easily, needed a careful
diet and for his heart to be watched but now…”
The Snow-Claw Ninja, whose expertise demanded for her to always
be unrelenting and unforgiving, had then buckled as the weight
of her guilt had pushed her to her knees, “He was fine
this morning when I left for work but when I got home an hour or
so ago he was like…” she paused; not quite sure what
words to use as she shook her head lightly, “this.
It’s like he had caught a really bad flu or pneumonia or
something that had drastically depleted his condition. I
don’t know what it is or what’s happening but I know
he’s deteriorating very fast.”
She then looked up at Sonya again, this time the fennec was
taller than the kneeling tiger whose eyes were now wide with
desperation, “I can’t go to a conventional hospital
for this for personal reasons but I’ve heard rumours that
you’re good – really good - and could possibly
operate under discreet conditions?”

Sonya observed with cautious curiosity as the older felines
behaviour changed like the tide right before her eyes. Getting a
temporary glimpse into the females raw vulnerability for the
sake of the cub in her arms gave the fox medic a great deal of
reassurance. This display right here proved that one truly
couldn’t judge a book by its cover and thus she always
made a point of trying to keep an open mind with most she
encountered. When she took a step back Sonya felt herself
quietly exhale a breath she hadn’t been aware she’d
been holding. Her large fluffy ears twitching, she caught the
audible crack in the other females tone but decided that it
would be more appropriate to pretend she hadn’t heard it.
After all she’d only been in this cats company a short
amount of time and already it was evident that showing her
underbelly wasn’t something she was comfortable or willing
to do in ordinary circumstances. These however were far from the
norm her brother meant way more to her than any amount of
personal pride and that didn’t go unnoticed.
When the cat came closer Sonya craned herself over him blue hues
darting proficiently to and from his protruding pus, patches of
skin, followed by his seemingly undernourished frame all the
necessary information she needed to know about his condition
surging into her mind during the quiet moments that followed.
Concerning enough the boy looked as if it’d been days
since he’d properly eaten but what worried her most of all
was the prominent sounds of the young ones breathing rapid
shallow and uneven was a recipe for disaster and she’d
experienced cases similar to this sure but she’d never
laid eyes on a child to have this to the point of an extreme
development. Not that any of these anxieties for the kitten
showed instead her soft remained a mask of patient indifference
for the boys state. Choosing not to interrupt as the snow
leopard explained Kyros lifestyle day to day Sonya
couldn’t fault what she was hearing if this was a milder
case of the condition making sure he got plenty of rest, a
carefully regulated diet and his heart condition to be
continuously watched would have been the medical advice
she’d prescribed. What she was seeing though it was long
past the case of a healthy diet and regulation being the key to
fixing everything.
Her ears pinning halfway backwards on her head watching this
strong personality succumb to her own despair the sympathy and
empathy weighed heavily across her features her expression no
longer a carefully composed blank of professionalism. Waiting
until she was sure that the snow coloured female had said all
she needed to she squatted down in one graceful movement her sky
blue irises locking directly with her cyan pools. “The bad
news is that your brother has developed a more severe case of
pneumonia one so serious that conventional methods simply will
not help him at this stage. Chances are Kyro hasn’t been
properly fine for quite some time but the severity of the
illness has choosen to manifest itself on the surface now. This
could be down to various factors but to me the most likely
factor in his case is that he suffers from a immune system
deficiency which in short means that his immune system is close
to being none existent and therefore more prone to virus
incursions. With the point his pneumonia is at and the lung
complexity that’s developed alongside it unless attended
to as soon as possible his days are numbered but unfortunately
you already figured that last part out for yourself.”
Allowing that horrific news to sink in for a moment or so the
fennec doctor then continued extending out her arms, for the
younger cub. “However the good news is the rumours are
accurate. I mean not that I brag but..” If the other
female decided to pass Kyro into her arms, she would then
witness Sonyas sky blue irises beginning to radiate a luminous
blue glow both her hands to for that matter. Eyes fluttering
subconsciously closed Sonya would hover a singular hand over the
feeble kitten that same glow fleetingly submerging him but
within that short timeframe the worst of his pus would recede
from his eyes, and his breathing would become much more steady
albeit still a little shallow, but his shudders would at least
reduce into more minor occasional tremors as his body
temperature faded back into normal levels for the time being.
"I am decent at what I do. And if you let me I think I’m
fully capable of helping your brother. But it won’t be
easy by any means and the relief that I’ve provided for
him won’t last nearly as long as I’d like. I need to
operate Kyro has an excessive amount of unstable fluid residing
in his lungs but before i can do that he’s going to need
medicine that I don’t happen to have on hand.. “

Her body shuddered and curled over her little brother both
protectively and denial. An audible gasp of anguish also escaped
her and then finally tears fell freely and splashed onto the
ground but she continued to listen nonetheless.
She looked half-way up again when the hand was extended towards
Kyro and admittingly, Karahl was reluctant to hand him over at
first but quickly dispelled the hesitation soon after because
after all, what was she here for?
For someone so strong that there even been rumors of the
assassin being able to ground ships out of the sky with her bare
hands, when she cradled and passed the tiny cub over her touch
was so gentle and delicate; catering to whatever appeared to be
most comfortable for the little one.
The tigress took a small step back to give Sonya a bit more
space, but also for her own reason as well. A smile perked up
when she witnessed the fennec lessen Kyro's struggles and at
that very moment she felt very thankful that Kyro didn't carry
the same weaknesses she did; especially now.
Eventually she stood back up, feeling confidence creeping back
to her knowing that coming here had been the right decision. She
cleared her throat quietly, "How and where can we get what you
need for him? I will do whatever it takes and of course pay you
whatever is required." she addressed before looking back at the
fox, "What is needed?"

"No payment will be necessary. That’s not how this works.
I’m going to help you free and clear because I am able.
That and I know what it’s like to feel as helpless as you
probably do now. I respect that you prioritised Kyros needs over
your own and know that if I were in your shoes I wouldn’t
hesitate to do the same for my six year old sister in an
instant.” Adjusting her hold on Kyro slightly to make sure
that he was still sound asleep and more importantly undisturbed.
She continued softly though she made sure she could still be
heard. "Your’re not the only one whos been privy to
rumours. I mean I don’t know a great deal about you but I
know enough to know that you aren’t someone that should be
underestimated. Our morals couldn’t be further apart and
make no mistake I am fully aware of what your profession
entails. I want to make clear that while I’m perfectly
open minded to helping you despite our differences that I in no
way condone your methods."
"If this going to work smoothly for Kyros sake all I ask from
you is that if we encounter those who prove resistant when
we’re trying to obtain what we want will do things my way
before we resort to anything more dire. I know the chances of me
holding my own with you in a battle would be slim and I most
likely wouldn’t win. But if you put me in that position
fight you I will.” Her warning unwavering, she let it sit
in the air for a few moments, before deciding that she’d
got the point across and adding on. “The where is the
easier part. The how is going to be a challenge.. we’re
going to need primrose oil but fortunately I know a guy.”
___
Encased in her dark blue and grey fitted field mission suit
Sonya tried not to let her discomfort show as she marched
through the shady side streets of what was considered the
rougher part of Mobius. Admittedly she didn’t like to
frequent places like this often and for good reason. However the
circumstances were certainly extreme enough to outweigh her
trivial discomfort. The only outward signs of her worry being
the occasional twitch of her fluffy blonde tail Sonya ignored
the curious glances that she attracted or more the towering
tigress by her side did. She was thankful that it was dipping
into the later part of the evening at least so that meant that
the darkness around them almost shrouded them like a cloak and
the fox medic preferred it that way.
Eventually the pair would find themselves outside of a side
alley shabby looking door that looked as if it were barely
clinging to what was left of its hinges. Taking a quiet inhale
and exhale Sonya kept her gaze straight but her words for were
for her white striped company. "This may seem like unusual
timing but I’m going to ask two questions your name? and..
the person we’re seeing well he’s barely social with
those he has come into contact with. And your’re
terrifying in a stereotypical way, so could you stay briefly
concealed until I give the signal please?”

The tigress found herself blinking with surprise again, she
hadn't met anyone who would conduct business relating to their
career profession for free. It did make her feel suspicious at
first but she also didn't doubt that the fox was being genuine
either.
There was a slight stillness after what Sonya had revealed about
what she knew. It seemed that Karahl's reputation had preceded
her and even with that knowledge Sonya was still willing to help
her and her brother... how she stood up to the feline couldn't
help but raise a level of respect for the doctor too.
She then nodded once, "Very well." Karahl replied simply in
compliance; then eventually followed the fennec doctor to where
they needed to go.
---
Karahl was no stranger to visiting less-than-desireable
neighborhoods so this was no exception. The tiger stralled
beside the doctor as they made their way, taking quiet and
graceful strides, keeping her posture tall and both arms folded
behind her back. She paid no mind the occasional tail twitches
from the other, for commenting to that regard was unnecessary
and as for the curious glances she ignored most of them but
locked eyes with anyone suspicious as they proceeded to walk
until they were out of sight; almost as if daring for them to
try anything.
When they finally reached their destination Sonya's companion
answered, "It's Karahl."
Then before she even finished her sentence the ninja was gone,
though not far and given how their first interaction went down
she wouldn't doubt that Sonya's sensitive hearing would indicate
that the Snow-Claw was still nearby.

With the tigress safely out of sight the fennec doctor then
proceeded to thump her knuckles against the brittle door frame.
Her next couple of words carrying a definitive no nonsense
element about them. “Venom! Open up.” When a few
minutes of torturous silence followed Sonya began to debate
whether or not she’d made the right decision in not
kicking this door down straight off the bat. But she wanted to
avoid going into more aggressive solutions if it could be
helped. Before long sounds could be heard from the other side of
the doorway from what Sonyas distinct hearing made out latches
and locks being tampered with. And then a pair of unnervingly
yellow-green eyes came into view narrowed and calculating from
the second they met hers. “Why Doctor.. your’re a
long way from your usual comfort zone. What brings you to the
likes of me this time?” Ignoring her increased feelings
of foreboding she focused on the matter at hand.
Forcing the male to open his door wider than he would of liked
by pressing a firm hand against it. Her reply was brusque under
normal circumstances the fox medic probably would have been more
patient but time was a luxury her and the feline assassin
didn’t have. “You have something I want.”
Practically bulldozing past the serpent her blue eyes darted
almost frantically around her surroundings trying to locate
their objective. “My my I remember you having far more
manners Quack Junior. I assume your’re looking for
this?” A smug smile spreading across the males lips, as he
held up the glass cylinder filled with the precious primrose
coloured petroleum. He took delight in knowing that he’d
gained the advantage. Her hands curling slowly into fists Sonya
found herself near growling. "I don’t have time to waste
on you right now. Either you hand that over immediately or I
take it without a damn for your consent.” A raspy chuckle
emitting from the snake as he tucked the tube tauntingly out of
sight he replied. “Feel free to take the vial if you can.
Although that my prove difficult you see I have some very
protective friends.”
On cue several others emerged from the shadows to surround the
combat medic crow bars and other weapons readied. One of the
thugs welding a an old fashioned looking pistol was pointing it
straight for her head the disgust flashing across his eyes as
they briefly locked with Sonya she knew then that unless she
acted he was going to fire and at this range it was likely he
wouldn’t miss. Ignoring her other oppositions for the time
being Sonya moved forward half a step both hands raising as she
grabbed the unfortunate individuals wrist with one hand and the
barrel of his gun with the other. The gun went off the bullet
hitting the ceiling and Sonya wrenched downwards snapping the
males trigger finger as she ripped the pistol from his hold. He
didn’t even have time to scream before she slammed his gun
into his face three times and then she flipped it and stepped
back, aiming the gun around to the those that continued to try
and close in. “Heh you do surprise me doctor I’ll
give you that but the fact of the matter is your’re still
out numbered you were foolish to think you could come here alone
and leave unscathed..”
Now it was Sonyas turn to look openly smug. “Who said I
came here alone?” Pressing her lips together into an small
o shape, the fennec released a subdued but sharp sounding
whistle signalling Karahl for her debut.

Karahl was certainly lurking somewhere high above what was
transpiring between Sonya and the rest of the gang they were
visiting. As per usual she remained calm and waited in a
crouched position with the patience of a saint; quite literally
ready to leap into action at any given notice.
First while Sonya and the reptile were talking as the rest of
his presumed goons appeared, the tigress quickly performed some
mental gymnastics took note of how many there were, where they
were positioned, what weapons they were carrying - prioritising
by order as most dangerous and immediate threats - and
calculated best routes to take when she had to move. Naturally
the one holding the gun was top priority but to some surprise
for Karahl the fennec was anything but helpless and rushed after
that one already; a rogue bullet was fired wildly during the
struggle, hitting the ceiling a little too close to where the
ninja had been hiding for comfort. Seemed like a good time to
change positions, so using the cover of both the altercation and
shadows she stalked and prowled to her next leaping point.
Naturally when an obvious signal was given, Karahl acted
instantaneously. She decided to go after the two closest to the
vixen - whom were also behind her - first. With the natural
grace of a feline she leapt, landing square on the shoulders of
one holding a knife of some kind; pushing him to the ground with
her feet whilst also attempting to disarm and discard the weapon
across the room. Next, her tail wrapped around a crowbar weilded
by a nearby goon and snatched it off of him, before moving more
towards the centre of the room where she could be seen. The
tiger then held the crowbar horizontally at each end with the
tips of her pinky fingers before pushing them together and
effectively snapping the metal bar like a toothpick; all the
while locking eyes with Venom's with an unblinking and ruthless
stare.

Ordinarily Sonya took no pleasure in other peoples misfortune
but she had to admit there was a small part of her that
internally smiled seeing the corrupt serpent shrink in on
himself all traces of his in the moment arrogance completely
evaporating with the realisation that he’d dealt all his
trump cards and it still hadn’t made an ounce of
difference to deterring what could be an extremely unfortunate
fate for him. Both sets of his goons effectively neutralise and
scattered on the floor around them the fennec doctor watched his
beady gaze flick to his useless hired help, then back to her,
and then finally back on the feline beside her who
unsurprisingly to Sonya made no attempt to conceal exactly what
she was capable of by using one of the flunkies crow bar as a
demonstration as easily as a canine could bite through a twig.
Purposely letting the silence that followed stretch out a little
longer than necessary the fennec made her way towards the snake
her expression uncharacteristically deadpan all the while.
“Unless you want me to give my associate here the go
ahead to snap you as effortlessly as she did titanium then I
suggest you hand over what I asked for.”
Fresh unfettered hatred flashing across his yellow-green hues
the male found himself stubbornly grasping at straws for the
sake of his quickly dwindling ego and pride.“W-What
your’re doing it won’t work you know! anything
involving primrose petroleum is a FOOLS charade and I would have
that you of people would have been smart enough to-" Her
knuckles cracking swiftly across the males jaw, Sonya put enough
force behind her hit to make sure she broke it and expectedly
the unexpected blow caused him to shriek out in agony and clutch
at his mandible which served as plenty distraction for Sonya to
reach down into the front of his coat pocket and recover the
petroleum sliding the vial securely into one of the compartments
on her hip she straightened up, glancing over her shoulder to
speak to the Snow-Clan tigress. “We’ve got what we
came here for. Lets go.”
Discreetly nursing the hand she’d used to punch Venom with
on her way out she willed herself to take small but deep
breaths. Knowing that she’d been in the right to take the
violent approach with snake the justification didn’t
exactly make her feel much better. After all hurting people
unless it was for a self-defence reason wasn’t something
that came naturally to her and it probably never would. The
males farewell snipe triggering the milder side of her anxieties
about the situation. She made sure to briskly shut such thoughts
down as quickly as they’d tried to come. They’d only
just gotten started this wasn’t the time to be second
guessing anything. Wanting to reiterate this point out loud for
her own sake as much as her current companies she made sure to
sound firm. “What he said back there he’s not wrong.
From an outside perspective what we’re attempting to do
probably does seem like an impossible risk and this isn’t
something most doctors would go out of their way to attempt.
However.. I’m not most doctors. I promise that I’m
going to do more than help him we're going to save your brother
regardless of the odds stacked against us.”
