The Return Of The Doctor.

It was surreal she’d been away for so long well at least
she felt like she had been. It hadn’t been the easiest
decision deciding to leave her home zone for another one
entirely. But it certainly wasn’t a decision she
regretted. She’d learned a lot from being away she’d
grown as a person and didn’t know how to describe it but
she felt stronger somehow? Her dark navy blue boots crunching
thickly on the ground the fennec felt an almost overwhelming
sense of relief to be back where she belonged. Despite knowing
that things were going to be far from the same. Ignoring the
sudden and sharp grief like pain that threatened to submerge her
there and then she shoved her hands deep into her pockets and
began her stroll in no particular direction. Somehow the wrap
ring had dumped her in a small local park and though she knew
that there were about a million other things and people for that
matter that she needed to be getting in contact with she
wasn’t ready to announce her arrival just yet.

Shadow is parked in his room in G.U.N HQ, leaning on the wall
with arms folded and eyes closed, due to a lack of anything to
do in his spare time, who can blame him? There is not enough
channels on television that capture his interests, there are a
few books to read on the bookshelf but he has read them all, as
usual he is waiting on the next assignment to get him out of
this dumpster fire of a room. His body is itching to be
productive on the field, its the only way to unleash his
ultimate power without being judged for it.
-Beep Beep-
His desire seems to have been granted, commander tower appeared
on the ID of his communicator, the black hedgehog pressed a
button to answer "Agent Shadow there is a dimensional
disturbance happening on Mobotropolis, its very similar to the
rift disturbance occurred a while back, we suspect they are
connected to one another and we have no idea who is causing
these rift openings, I'm sending you there to investigate,
report any findings you discover" the boss said.
Shadow nodded "Understood, I'm on my way" he replied before the
screen fade to black, the black hedgehog prepared to activate
Chaos Control and vanished without a trace. He reappeared in the
source of the rift opening then looked around the area, there
isn't anything sticking out of the ordinary, either this whole
thing is a fluke or the intruder is concealing themselves,
Shadow suspected whoever is here they don't want to bring
attention to themselves. He begins to walk forward with no
direction in mind, he would still check around for anything
suspicious with no luck, that is until he spotted someone
familiar ahead of him. "Is that...Doctor Sonya?" he approached
her wondering why is she here of all places.
"What are you doing here?" he stopped in front of her.

Large fluffy ears twitching the fox woman heard the all too
familiar tone before her eyes properly adjusted enough to see
him through the evening gloom. Distaste initially flashing
across her pretty features at the sight of him in an instant her
expression was then smoothed over with polite indifference.
Sonya Heart was many things but rude wasn’t one of them.
And while she didn’t see much in the black hedgehog
herself she knew certain a pink hedgehog who was dear to her
that did. So for the time being it wouldn’t kill her to
feign pleasantries before she mooched off to find a hotel for
the night and temporarily pretend that the world didn’t
exist. Pressing a tiny button on the side of her wrist
communicator her field suit retreated into practically
nothingness, leaving her in her more casual outfit. Her pale
Lolita dress and golden-yellow bows completely unruffled her
mini leather jacket was now her only source of warmth for the
time being.
A thin smile tugging the edges of her lips, she gave the male a
small wave as he approached and waited until he was close enough
before she replied doing her best to inject the illusion of
chipper normality into her words. “Hello Agent Shadow.
Good question long story short my contribution to the outer zone
mission is no longer needed which means here i am. Can I ask why
your’re out here this late?” While she awaited his
answer she cupped her hands together blowing into them for
warmth.

The sound barrier exploded from miles away as a blue wind rushed
throughout the city; it raced across streets and up the sides of
buildings until it skidded to a stop at the location of the
disturbance. Seeing Shadow and the masked stranger Sonic knew
GUN was likely conducting some type of illegal dimensional
experiments. He kicked the dirt from his sneakers as he opened
with a witty retort.
"Well, if it isn't the ultimate loser. I thought Sal made it
clear, she didn't want you GUN jerks conducting your little
experiments inside the city." When the figure disrobed Sonic
raised an eyebrow, he'd know those fluffy ears anywhere.
"Sonya?" He said blinking in disbelief. He ran his eyes up and
down her figure, she had changed her wardrobe but she was indeed
the same fox he knew from his childhood. After registering who
it was Sonic crossed his arms and turned his back towards the
two while remaining uncharacteristically quiet. He let the
silence stand before he planted himself on the ground
crosslegged shooting Shadow a glare. "You've missed movie night,
five weeks in a row." Sonic's glare turned into a displeased
frown while his eyes wandered over to the fox.
"You never call and you never write." He said simply to
punctuate her absence from the planet.

“Hey there.” Sounding a lot more composed than she
felt she couldn’t help but roll her sky blue orbs skyward
when her childhood friend arrived and his opening towards Shadow
was as predicted less than courteous. Fixing the black hedgehog
with a fleetingly apologetic look for Sonics behaviour. The
silence that followed caused her to have to fight off the urge
to actively fidget around on the spot. Watching as he lowered
himself into a sitting position his next sentence prompted a
mildly warm reaction to spread through her chest. “
"You've missed movie night, five weeks in a row." ‘He did
notice I was gone..’ Relaxing a little the weary fennec
made her way over to the sitting hedgehog until she was within
his eye line. In one fluent movement she hunkered down to his
level her tone soft. “I may not have called.. but
your’re wrong about the writing part.”
Reaching into the folds of her fur the female pulled out a wad
of creased but manageable letters, before she set the pages
gently down in his lap. “I wrote you a letter every day.
You seriously think I’d have you left out of the loop for
when I came back?” Knowing that tears were probably going
to start brimming if she wasn’t careful she pressed on.
“Me missing movie night five weeks straight just means
that now you get to pick the movie for five weeks solid which
may or may not be appropriate punishment for my absence.”
Finally lowering herself into a crossed legged position to face
him her last words were filled with uttermost sincerity.
"I’m sorry Sonic. I really am.”

Sonic snatched the letters from her grasp, tearing each one from
before its envelope speed-reading through the lot of them. Each
line was filled with details, dates and how she was feeling each
and every day; it seems her adventures off world had played a
large role in toughening her up. Eyes scanning the lines of text
like a rapid typewriter, Sonic's frown slowly turned into a
beaming smile. Tucking the paper away he tackled his old friend
and messed up her dainty do by rubbing his knuckles into the top
of her head.
"Aww Doc. You didn't have to write me every day....but a little
tip for next time. Letters only work if you send them." The blue
hedgehog chuckled and stood back up pulling Sonya to her feet at
the same time. "So after reading those, it seems like the place
you ended up was a pretty harsh environment. I liked the new
combat suit but the dress you're rocking at the moment makes you
look a lifesize doll. Doesn't exactly don't mess with me but
then again you've always been a bit of a softie." He nudged his
old friend and gestured towards Shadow. "Guess whose kicked his
ass TWICE!" The cocky hero announced with a smug grin.
"It's good to have you back. Welcome home, Doc Heart." He said
tossing his arms around the combat medic. Before too long he
pulled away and returned his attention to Shadow. "Speaking of
movies turns out dark and broody over there likes superhero
films. It's all he could talk about the last time I embarrassed
him."

"Outer zone mission? That explains the recent portal openings, I
was sent here to investigate a dimensional disturbance in the
city and I find you here, welcome back Doctor" confirming his
status to Sonya, now that she's returned he will report back to
G.U.N on his discovery, they don't have to worry about it since
the case is solved. Before he thinks about departing, his
expression copied Sonya's indifference as a sonic boom broke in
the distance a sound he knows very well, Sonic is coming.
When the blue hedgehog skid to a pause close to the pair then
threw an insult and accuse the ultimate lifeform of wrongdoings,
Shadow's face grew deadpan while folded his arms. "I'm not here
conducting experiments" he retorted. He watched his blue
counterpart sat on the ground legs crossed for some reason, he
gave Shadow a glare accusing him of missing movie night. "?" he
raised an eyebrow without a word, what the hell is he taking
about? Since when he invited him to a movie? The ultimate
lifeform didn't speak for some time allowing his rival to have a
moment with Sonya, he is more familier with the doctor, it's
only fair.
he couldn't help to brag about defeating Shadow ruining the
moment, his claim of beating him twice raised another eyebrow,
since when? He talked about Shadow's tastes for superhero films,
an unnecessary thing to bring up from his perspective. "Hmph, I
lost to a power ring Sonic, not you" believing his victory to be
shallow. "We do not speak of that" denying the truth about his
love for superhero films.

Stifling a fond giggle at the sight Sonic eagerly speed reading
through the tales of her adventures over the past couple of
months in that moment the fennec a familiar rush for warmth for
the hedgehog. She’d really missed him and that became more and
more apparent as the minutes ticked by watching that frown of
his slowly turn into a smile triggered one of her own back at
him instantly partially because she’d forgotten how much that
smile worked wonders and partially because knew Sonic well
enough to know what was going to happen next. When her long time
friend leapt for him and went straight in to ruffle up her soft
blonde locks aside from a mild squeal this time around she
didn’t argue.
“Your’re right I didn’t have to. But I wanted to." The second
part of his sentence causing her to playfully smack him in the
arm she pointedly added. If I had sent the letters that would
have defeated the my drama purpose of giving them to you in
person blue for brains.” Her banter filled commentary dished
back out wholeheartedly, she let the blue hedgehog hoist her
back to her feet. Large ears tilting downwards slightly at the
reminder of how difficult her environment had been. “Yeah.. yeah
it was.” Perking up moments later when he went on to compliment
her new field mission attire she simply shook her head when he
made a comment about her outfit resembling a life sized doll. It
was kind of a compliment she guessed? “Thank you! yeah I’m
really happy with how my field suit turned out. And yeah sure
this outfit doesn’t scream I’m going to butt kick you into next
week but we both know I’m a lot tougher than I look.” Fiddling
with the edge of her long blonde pony tail while Sonic nudged
her side and belted out another typically Sonic statement. She
glanced towards Shadow, then back at him her words lightly
sarcastic. “I’d never be able to guess."
Blinking momentarily in surprise as she felt the weight of
Sonics arms coiling around her tiny frame. She returned the
embrace in kind pressing into him and also pulling away when
appropriate. “Thank you blue. It’s good to be home.” Also
returning her attention to Shadow Sonya gave him a curious tilt
of her head. “Superhero films? I pegged you more as horror or
thriller sort of guy. But then it does make sense.. superhero
films the heavy identification with Bat Man most likely.”

Sonic gave an easy going shrug before gesturing towards Shadow's
footwear. "You're just a sore loser. You wanna talk about
getting external help, how about you lose the rocket boots next
time we throw down? I bet you couldn't even break the sound
barrier without your fancy shoes." The blue hedgehog gave a
smirk that you just wanted to smack off his face. "What when
they built you up in space they couldn't spring for super
speed?" Sonic seemed to be put in a foul mood whenever Shadow
showed up, largely due to the fact he almost took out all life
on Mobius at one point. Sonic grit his teeth and pushed the
black hedgehog as if egging him on.
"You may have Amy and everybody else fooled but were made to be
a weapon, and it's only a matter of time before you snap back
into your old ways. I'm not saying you haven't done any good
since you joined the winning side. Your help with Scourge
couldn't be understated but doing good deeds isn't how it works.
You almost killed everybody and have you been punished, served
any jail time or endured exile? NO! You get to run around just
as free as everybody else because Sal's Dad is afraid of you."
Sonic pressed a finger into Shadow's chest giving a glare. "You
want me to leave you alone? All you have to do is go to trial.
Serve your time and get a clean slate. He should rot for what
he's done, don't ya think Sonya?"

Her large fluffy ears pinning backwards slightly on her head at
Sonics sudden and sharp change in tone she knew all to well
where this conversation was heading. There was just something
about Shadow that rubbed Sonic up the wrong way. Gone was her
charming witty childhood friend that she’d be playfully
bantering with only moments before and in his place was someone
way more hard edged there was something visibly defiant about
him as far as the black hedgehog was concerned. Deciding that
the best course of action at this point was to try and defuse
the situation. Moments after Sonic made the first move for world
war three by shoving the other hedgehog. She stepped in between
the two. "I think we all should take this down a notch. The last
thing any of the locals need is another round of full frontal
hedgehog wrestling at this time of night.” After fixing
the both of them with a stern warning expression she sighed and
smoothed down the none existent ruffles in her lolita dress,
before speaking again her words coming out calm but drained.
"Can you both just not do this right now please?"
