An Unforeseen Rescue! [Tails & Sonya.]
By: EternalPeace Date: February 11, 2019, 1:36 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
‘What an earth have I gotten myself into?' The fennec
thought to herself glumly as she politely endured more
‘riveting’ conversation from a crocodile whom was
quite frankly sporting way to much hair gel and the most
baffling part of the visual was a lot the hair product was less
divided between his ridiculous looking Elvis styled locks and
more slicked across his scales to give them a less than
appealing sheen and shine. Fighting off the urge to give an
unimpressed eye roll at the mention of how much his guns were
loaded and something about gym regimes and bench presses Sonya
made sure her expression of curtsy interest didn’t waver
though she very much wanted to. ‘I shouldn’t even be
here it's to soon me being out at a bar of all places this
isn’t me it’s more him...' A sharp pang of
unhappiness suddenly flooding through her veins as her more
vulnerable thoughts tried to take her on trip down memory lane.
For a moment it was all to much the faint but intoxicating smell
of cigar smoke filling her lungs second-hand the warmth of his
rough but tender hands wrapping around her hips to pull her in
close the way her stomach had always managed to end up twisting
into helpless amounts of knots at the sight of the toothy grin
that most found terror in.
“Toots er.. are you crying?” Eventually managing to
ground herself back into the moment as the grey spots around her
vision began to fade and her breathing dropped back down to
regular levels it was only then did she reach upwards to wipe
away the stray tears that had subconsciously began to trickle
down her cheeks. Taking an unsteady step backwards on her dark
blue pumps she tried and failed to keep her composure afloat.
“I-I’m sorry I really am fi-eep!” A firm hand
snaking it’s way around her slender wrist a little to
tightly for her liking she felt vile rise in throat at the
overpowering stench of booze and sweat mixed into one washed
over her. “Damn I knew I was awesome with the ladies but
reducing you to tears? I must be even better than I thought!
Look at a complete wreck and it’s all down to yours
truly.” Her large fluffy tears flattening a fraction a
frown soon found its way fluttering across her dainty features.
“Erm that’s not quite-“ Her next words fading
from her lips at the feel of the males hand trying to move down
lower on the small of her back his tone dropping to what he
thought was a seductive sort of sound but instead just made the
middle aged beauty want to recoil more. “If you let me
doll face I think I know a few sure fire ways I could make you
feel better.” Untangling herself from the crocs embrace as
best as she was able with his hold on her wrist the fennecs blue
irises darted swiftly around the room looking for some sort of
escape route but then she spotted a certain someone instead.
‘Wait what is Tails doing here? wait get rid of creep now
questions later.’
“As bold as your offer sounds.. my husband has just
arrived." Making a subtle attempt to catch the now older kits
eye if she succeeded in doing so she would send out a silent
plea sort of signals for him to play along with this impulsive
charade. Trying not to slightly slur her wording now that the
wine she’d drank earlier from when she arrived was
starting to kick in she called across the room. “Hey
honey! Over here.”

Now the bar wasn't a place you'd usually find a certain golden
furred two tailed fox, but today was a little different. Firstly
he had been asked to meet a friend at this bar in particular but
the friend hadn't shown yet, leaving Tails to his thoughts. He
didn't want to draw any more looks then he already did given his
status quo, by just waiting around so he took a seat a two
tabled spot after ordering a non-alcoholic drink. He got quite
the look from the bartender, who was just as confused as to why
Tails was in his bar as Tails was at this point. Wrapping his
robotic hand around the drink, it made a soft whir as it
attempted to simulate the feeling of touching cold glass for
him, he did this in such a way that it seemed almost as if he
was experimenting with it right then and there in the bar, maybe
he'd just added some upgrades to the arm prior? Looking at the
arm a little too long kind of made him wish he had gotten
something more mature then apple juice to forget it.
His attention was soon brought away though shortly after he made
a mental note that it didn't quite work for the whole hand.
Noticing a familiar voice, his ears flicked before his blue eyes
found the familiar figure of Sonya Heart being pestered by a
crocodile fellow. Catching a moment of it, he saw that she was
crying, although she brushed it away. Almost on instinct the fox
lifted himself from his seat slightly but he forced himself to
stay where he was for now to read the situation. Seeing the man
wrap a tight hand around her wrist and Sonya's ears flatten back
before he then started to move his hand down the Fennec, all of
it was making Tails feel uneasy for Sonya.. That's when he
caught her gaze. Now was the time to act, he couldn't just sit
and watch.
Springing from his seat, taking his drink with him, the Fox
strolled over to the pair, putting his robotic hand on the
crocodile's shoulder firmly gripping it, "Hey, you aren't giving
the little lady any trouble now are you?" He'd ask as he swirled
his drink around his glass with his other hand, his twin tails
coming down and swooping hard against the back of the
crocodile's legs in an attempt to knock him backwards, Tails
would move his robotic hand in to hold Sonya so he couldn't
bring her down with him before the fox then stood in front of
her and between the two. "I don't like how you were touchy my,
uh, wife-" He chose to play along with the charade Sonya
started, hoping the other male got the jist better if he did so,
"Do yourself a favour and back off. Lay a hand on her again and
you'll be waking up with more then just a bad hangover" He
growled, before he'd turn to Sonya to give her a check over for
any marks or injuries. "Would you like to come outside for some
air my lovely?" He'd ask, as he gently offered the fennec his
hand to take if she so wanted to. He had an idea as to why she
was here, but here wasn't the best place to talk about it.

Feeling a rush of warmth for the two tailed kit in that moment
she was grateful for his prompt intervention that she could have
cried then and there on the spot. The way he’d strolled over and
took complete control of the situation in a matter of minutes
had been strangely attractive to the currently vulnerable
doctor. Although as her gaze travelled over to the less than
sophisticated sweetened juice he swirled in his glass Sonya was
all to quick to give herself a mental telling off for having
such momentary inappropriate thoughts about her friend. What
happened next happened so fast that she didn’t really have much
to process everything that went on. Snarling, swearing, and then
her less than welcome company was stumbling and toppling
backwards away from her while Tails made sure that she remained
upright. Giving the wrist that the croc had been so carelessly
gripping a ginger rub with her free hand her blue hues flicked
wearily to the now annoyed looking reptile who was glaring
daggers at them. Unable to control the proud smile that slowly
blossomed across her lips due to how well Tails was handling
this uncomfortable situation as a whole his protective growled
warning though probably only thrown in to help sell their
‘marriage’ sent a small amount of shivers down her spine and
before she had a chance to filter herself more words left her
lips before she could stop them. “Yeah only my husband gets
touchy feely rights!”
‘Yep.. I definitely need to switch to water as soon as
possible.’ A light pink haze misting over her white muzzle she
put it down to the alcohol in her system with how fast she found
her fingertips knotting into his own. “I would love to lead the
way dear. Besides it might just be me but things sure do feel
hot in here.”

Tails watched the crocodile fall over clumsily, his tail swoop
having the effect he wanted it to. He wasn't aiming to hurt the
other mobian, just wanting to get him to back off from his
friend. Once the croc was landed, grumbling with upset, Tails
turned back to Sonya and saw her rub one of her wrists, the one
the croc had been holding onto a bit too tightly, he seemed a
little anxious for her about it but trusted it was alright for
now, if not she could show him better once outside. When they
got glared at, Tails raised a brow and shot back an unimpressed
look, the crocodile looked tough, but that was it, just a look.
When Sonya said the next part though the fox couldn't help but
to feel his face go a little hot as colour rushed to his cheeks
he tried to force it down as much as he could though, thinking
she had just said it only to push more for the married facade.
It still didn't stop his twin tails from swirling a bit and his
ears from pricking up though.
"Could I get a small cup of water please" He'd ask the bartender
who was quick to give him one, he'd wrap a tail around it,
holding the apple juice in the other hand as Sonya took hold of
the free hand rather quickly to his surprise. Seeing the pink
over her muzzle and hearing what came next, it wasn't too hard
to work out she had, had a drink or two, but that was what the
water he'd gotten was for. He'd nod his head to her and smiled,
"I can assure you that what's hot in here is indeed you" He'd
wink a rather cheeky grin for a moment before then carefully
leading her outside of the bar, closing the door behind her.
At first he didn't say anything and simply continued to walk
himself and her away from the establishment, steadily taking her
along the sidewalk, it was only until they were alone and a fair
distance from the bar that he eventually spoke up, giving her
hand a gentle, comforting squeeze. "Are you alright? He didn't
hurt you did he?" He'd ask, as his blue eyes went back to the
wrist she had rubbed earlier. "Do you wanna talk about why you
were there? Or would you rather not?" He hoped he wasn't giving
her too many questions at once, he didn't want to overwhelm her,
so he left the questions there for now, wrapping his spare
second tail around her figure to help keep her warm, as it was
starting to get rather late into the evening at this point.

Allowing Tails to lead her out into the cool night in almost a
dazed entranced state it wasn’t long before the rest of
the world became little beyond background noise for her. The icy
evening wind whipping ferociously through her creamy golden fur
had it not been for her friend chivalrously tucking his soft
fluffy tail around her to protect her from the worst of the
breeze she no doubt would have started shivering in her dark
blue cardigan which had originally felt like a good choice for
wear in the heat of the moment but now she was steadily
beginning to regret it. Taking an immense amount of comfort from
the feeling of warmth that spread through her fingertips when he
gave her hand a squeeze despite her downcast mood she found a
ghost of a smile tugging at the edges of her lips.
Her sky blue irises meeting his own equally clear blue ones she
felt an odd fluttering sensation in her stomach faint but very
much there. Trying to rationalise her feelings the pretty fennec
found herself momentarily lost in thought. 'Earth to Sonya
please get a grip poor Tails is probably feeling incredibly
awkward right now and is to polite to say so. And as for
feeling nervous it’s not that kind of nervous!
You’ve had way more than your usual limit of course
your’re going to be easily feeling giddy and overly light
headed over just about anything.’ Coming out of her mild
trance in time to hear the genuine concern that crept into each
of his questions one after the other she noted. He was way more
worried than a politely obligated friend was supposed to be in a
situation like this. But then again this was simply the caring
type of guy Tails was hell he was so decent that if it called
for it he would probably go out of his way to help anybody in as
sorry a state as this.
For reasons she was yet to understand the thought that Tails
would likely go ahead to such extends to help just anyone like
this did cause her heart to sink. Trying not to let her
confusing feelings bubble to the surface she took a few quiet
moments to stroke her hand softly across the tail that was
safely cocooning her before she spoke the more intoxicated part
of her brain clearly still taking rein as she felt a giggle slip
past her plump lips. “Tails .. did you just- actually no
were you just flirting with me?” His response from earlier
vaguely returning to mind she felt her ghost of a smile shift
into more of an drunkenly amused grin. Though she soon
continued. “Actually forget I said that.. god the ego on
me.” Gently untangling the glass of water from his other
tail with slightly trembling hands she brought the cup to her
mouth taking a couple of small sips before she replied.
“I.. if I’m being honest I am far from alright..
but thanks to you I’m not hurt. Well not as much as I
could have potentially been anyway.”
Noticing that his gaze flickered to her still currently aching
wrist she tried to placid him. “I’ll probably bruise
a little tomorrow but nothing I can’t handle.” Her
efforts to sound confident and put together crumbling by the
minute she soon found herself letting out a laugh that was
hollow in sound. “I really don’t want to talk about
it. But at the same time if I don’t I know that going to
eat me up inside so I may as well come right out and say this to
someone who is actually listening.”Squeezing her eyes
tightly shut as if to quietly will herself the strength to say
the words out loud she reopened her eyes minutes later the fresh
tears brimming even as she tried to keep her grin fixed in
place. “You’ve probably already figured this out.
But me and him we’re over. He hates me and well quite
frankly feeling like this is the least that I deserve.”

---------------------------------------------------------
Tails didn't want to see his friend shiver from the cold, so on
top of wrapping a tail around her, he'd take off his blue scarf
and wrap that around her too, offering her a warm smile shortly
after. Over the years the fox had gotten scruffier and fluffier
overall, his chin began to get a bit of a goatie scruff and his
chest had also picked up on fur count. So despite the cold, he'd
probably be okay focusing on making her more warm then himself,
he of course wasn't totally fine from the cold though.
When Sonya looked at him and seemed to become lost in though
Tails would chuckle lightly, but made sure she kept balance and
didn't trip over anything while lost in her own thoughts for
that brief moment. He just hoped he wasn't making her
uncomfortable in any way.
When she began to gentle stroke a hand across his tail, he bit
softly onto his lower lip and kept his eyes ahead of him, it was
a nice feeling but he probably shouldn't say that- "Maybe" He'd
smile lightly at her question, rubbing a hand against the back
of his neck, "I mean you did call me your husband, I had to be
convincing right?" While that was true, he genuinely meant the
compliment he'd implied earlier too, "I mean, that and I was
just being honest" He'd give her a warm smile before she said to
forget what she said as she took the glass of water from his
tail. "It's quite alright Miss Heart, you can ask what you need
to" He'd reassure her, if anyone had heard about ego's enough,
it was him from his best friend, her's wasn't nearly half as
bad.
"I'm glad you're not hurt, but, I'd like to make you happy too"
He'd put a hand on her shoulder for a moment "You deserve to be
happy" He was grateful she was at least being honest with him
though.
He still seemed worried hearing it would bruise, but he nodded
and gave her a hopeful sort of look, trusting she would look
after it while it was bruised. When she let out a hollow laugh
the fox would listen and hear her out, he understood and didn't
want to pressure her, but if she needed to get it off her chest,
he'd be there. Sure enough, she eventually spoke up about it.
The fox flattened his ears back as he let her continue, when she
finished though, he spoke up. "Hey, hey" He'd grip the juice
with his spare tail instead and brought his free hand up to
Sonya's face, stopping their walk for a moment to try and brush
away her tears, he'd then cup that hand around one of her cheeks
to comfort her as he reassured her; "You don't deserve to be
feeling like this, never is pain something you deserve" He'd
offer her a smile, "But, don't force yourself to smile when you
know you need to cry, it's okay to cry, I'm here for you, I'll
shield you while you do if that's what you need, okay?" He'd
open his arms in offering to her, in case she needed it. "I'm..
I'm really sorry Sonya, for what happened, but you wanna know
what I think?" He couldn't help but to pull her into a tight hug
if she hadn't already taken his hug already, she was crying or
close to and trying to keep herself together and it was hard to
watch. "I think, anyone who hates you for what happened, doesn't
deserve your Heart. It's not your fault, don't blame yourself
okay?" He'd hold her close for a moment before then, if she
allowed it, scooping her up in his arms. It was cold, she had,
had a bit to drink and she was upset, "Let's get you someplace
nice and warm and get hot chocolates going, how's that sound?"
He'd ask, putting his charming smile back on his muzzle, back
when they were in a place of comfort, then she could fully talk
about how she felt and not have to hide from the public.
"My place isn't too far from here, would you like to crash there
for a bit?"

Sonya was so touched from extra extent of his kindness that for
a moment all she could do was loose herself in the blue of his
eyes. So similar to her own and yet also so different the sight
was mesmerising almost. Making sure she wasn’t to obvious
about it while she was staring the fennec gave the kit an
appreciative once over. After all it had been at least a few
years now and time had aged them all naturally but Tails there
was something about him now and not just in the way that he
looked she personally thought that the growth spurt, fluff
increase, and goatie scuff beard really suited him. But she was
now much more aware of the way he carried himself he was more
certain more self-assured no longer the slightly shy and soft
spoken fox she’d grown accustomed to growing up he’d
blossomed into someone all his own and she couldn’t have
been prouder.
Knowing that he would still be feeling the cold to some degree
she waited until he’d removed his scarf before gently
intervening. “Okay I may be intoxicated but that’s
not an excuse for me to let you freeze. We should share
this.” Not really giving him much say in the matter Sonya
proceeded to loop the scarf around both their necks, ironically
tying them together a little closer in a way. As they wandered
along in peaceful silence during the moments that followed she
was all to aware that the only reason that she was still
managing to remain upright and not be embarrassing herself
through stumbling over like a fawn on fresh legs was because his
focus did not stray from making sure she remained upright. Her
large fluffy ears flickering slightly at the sound of his
chuckle she found herself inwardly cringing a little. How much
of a ditz did she look right now? Barely able to stand on her
own two feet, rambling on about nonsense, and worst of all
oversharing about her now none existent romantic life if he had
second thoughts about helping her before chances are he did now.
Knowing that he was probably weary that he was overstepping
boundaries she opened her mouth to try and reassure him
otherwise but then she caught sight of his teeth sinking into
his lower lip. A worrisome expression briefly fluttering across
her features a flurry of anxious thoughts presented themselves
in her head. 'Am I hurting him? am I the one making him
uncomfortable here and he doesn’t know to tell me to stop
getting familiar? Oh god oh god.'
Her fussing cut short by his response to her questioning about
his unexpectedly flirtatious behaviour that brought a faint
smile to her lips nodding in agreement she spoke up softly prior
to cutting him off. “Oh yeah.. I did didn’t i? well
for what it’s worth Miles you were a perfect pretend
husband." His casually added on comment causing her muzzle to
burn up a fresh batch of rose pink she glanced sideways hiding
herself behind a curtain of her long blonde waves. Sneaking a
glance at him from her peripheral vision his words only caused
the heat in her cheeks to rapidly increase. "You don't deserve
to be feeling like this, never is pain something you deserve.
But, don't force yourself to smile when you know you need to
cry, it's okay to cry, I'm here for you, I'll shield you while
you do if that's what you need, okay?" These words of comfort
and care alone shattering the remains of her emotional defences.
Folding herself into his awaiting embrace she buried her face
into the nape of his neck, finally allowing herself to feel all
the grief and anguish she’d been repressing over the past
couple of days over the loss of the hedgehog she loved.
Her tiny frame racked with thick sounding shuddery sobs she
stayed in Tails arms all the awhile just quietly appreciating
how warm and solid he was pressed against her in the moment.
Tears still dribbling down her cheeks when he scooped her up in
his arms she gave a tiny nod in response, her arms wrapping
around his neck while her large ears pinned sadly against her
head. “I’d really like that thank you..”

Tails caught her eye back, which of course then led to him
catching her giving him a glance over although she was pretty
sly about it, he chose not to say anything on it though to not
draw attention on her like that, though it did bring a little
colour to his cheeks again.
She had a point when it came to him sharing what clothing he
had, he already had little bits of snow clumps in his hair and
fur here and there, she also insisted and didn't give him a say
on the matter, which was appreciated since he knew he would've
insisted otherwise had she of not looped the scarf around both
of them. "Heh, I guess you're right, thanks~" He'd smile before
patting out some of the snow from his fur.
Sonya was making it surprisingly rather easy to help her stay up
and for that he was glad as he didn't want to see her fall, "If
I'm getting too close or anything like that, please let me know,
okay?" He'd ask, offering her a reassuring smile, hoping it let
her know he was comfortable.
He nodded, indeed she did. He laughed lightly at the following
comment though, "Well that means a lot considering I've never
been a husband yet" He'd ruffle his hair lightly as she glance
away to hide her blushing face, which made him smile and glance
aside as well to let her have that privacy, her locks were
really as pretty as ever though.
When the fennec folded in and buried her face into his neck,
letting her have the moment she needed to let it all out, Tails
put his arms around her to provide comfort, holding her close to
let her know he was here for her, giving her a gentle pat on the
back as he shielded her from any onlookers as well as from the
weather.
He gave her an understanding nod when she made it clear she'd
like what he offered, holding onto her small frame and keeping
her close, still trying to use his tails to blanket her as much
as he could, the fox trudged along and did his best to make the
trip to his place short and swift but still comfortable.
It wouldn't take too long until the fox had reached his cozy
looking little home, which had a larger building, presumably one
of his workshops, attached to the far side of it. Pushing his
door open with a spare tail, Tails wandered them both inside,
but only put Sonya down once the door was closed and once he was
able to set her down on his rather soft couch. After he had set
her down he disappeared down a short hallway for a moment before
coming back with a big puffy blanket, which he'd gently place on
top of her before then turning to light the small fireplace he
had. His place wasn't overly large or anything despite the fact
he could've easily of made it bigger or bought bigger given his
status, but if he lived alone like he did, there probably wasn't
much point for him to have bigger, or at least Tails thought so.
Wandering into his smallish kitchen the fox then began to make
some hot chocolates for the two, making sure to bring out a bag
of soft marshmallows as well, "Are you warm enough?" He'd ask
the fennec, they could talk all they wanted once he made sure
she was comfortable and warm.

The more sensible part of her brain that screeched and pleaded
to be sober was trying to tell her something in that moment that
she wasn’t quite grasping. Noticing the fresh back of colour
that soon seeped back into the males cheeks she felt that odd
fluttering sensation in her stomach again but was all too quick
to dismiss the unusual feelings. A rather goofy grin spreading
across her muzzle for reasons that remained at a loss to her now
but she had a feeling would be all to clear come morning.
Without really thinking she instinctively reached forward
tenderly brushing the droplets of snow from his steadily growing
damp fur and hair. “Your’re practically a snow-fox it’s a good
thing I’m here to look after you.” The alcohol in her system
still hindering her reactions instead of wanting to cringe and
apologise for such a blazon comment instead she found herself
snickering at how useful she was turning out to be drunk and
all.
She wasn’t really aware of how long the two of them wandered
along the soft crunch of the snow beneath being the only sound
that echoed against her large fluffy ears until he next spoke.
"If I'm getting too close or anything like that, please let me
know, okay?" At first Sonya was tempted to ask him if she’d
heard him right but even in this state she knew that asking that
probably wouldn’t do her any dignified favours. Leaving a moment
or so before her next reply she cupped a hand over her snow
coloured muzzle to conceal a smirk that if read the wrong way
could be mistaken as patronising. Her words while soft we’re
clear enough for him to make out. “Miles. So far you’ve been
nothing but the definition of ideal company considering I’m in
such a persuasive mindset. I mean you are such a decent guy that
it probably hasn’t occurred to you that if you weren’t a decent
guy we’d probably be having a very different conversation right
now. If you catch my drift?” Tilting her head in his direction
the fennec arch a rather suggestive eye brow though she
continued un fazed at her own implications as she shook her
head. “Again.. forget I said that. Of course you don’t have any
idea what I’m talking about..”
The sound of his laughter bringing another small smile to loose
lips, she found herself cooing at him. "You’ll be a REAL husband
one day Tails! and by god when you found someone I am going to
give her the third degree to the maximum! I swear no one is ever
going to be good enough for you in my eyes.” Wrapped in the
security that was Tails arms the fennec soon lost track of how
long she stayed where she was. But eventually she felt herself
being swept off the ground, a small nod later and being half in
and half out of consciousness for most of the journey when she
did come to again it was in the safety of Tails small but
relatively comfortable apartment. Never had the female been more
relieved to be in a place that was so overwhelmingly familiar.
Sinking back into the comfort of the sofa she could already feel
her eye lids trying to grow heavy with her alcohol fuelled
adrenaline beginning to fade. A small yawn escaping from her
lips when the soft puffy blanket was placed on top of her. She
quietly watched as Tails tended to the fireplace until he got an
appropriate amount of heat going. 'He’s going through so much
trouble just to make sure I feel comfortable when all I’ve been
this evening is nothing short of ridiculous. He really is a good
guy.’
Tugged from her train of thought by the foxes question she
managed to sit herself up a little and scoot along to make room
for him sit down beside her. “I’m much warmer now. Thank you ..
you know you didn’t have to do all this right?” Nursing her hot
chocolate mug with caution the medic could feel the despair from
earlier trying to needle its way back in. Her large fluffy ears
flickering downward slightly she spoke her last words much more
quietly. “I’m not worth this effort. Let alone anything else.”
