Sonic had recently offered to meet up with Amy over coffee or in
his case a chocolate shake, to clear the air after all crazy
events the two had gone through. He still felt terrible for
putting Amy out while he was staying at her place and the
startle she gave him when he woke up only served to complicate
the situation while adding an awkward air. Sonic rapidly
scratched at his damaged ear while he waited for the pink
hedgehog at the little trending cafe that was buzzing with
nightlife of the city's east end. Picking at his injured ear
became somewhat of a nervous tick Sonic had at times scratching
it so vigorously it may lead others to think he had fleas. Sonic
was normally so calm and cool but after the events with Amy he
wasn't sure how to act around her anymore; she'd changed so much
over the past year from friend he tolerated with to somebody he
actually respected who arguably had her life more sorted out
than he did.
The blue hedgehog had already sucked down three shakes the empty
glasses piling up as he waited for Miss Rose. He idly tapped his
fingers against the table as he looked out into space with an
annoyed look on his face as he lost himself in thought. "What am
I going to do? I Told Ams I had a thing for her and now she's
dating Shadow. I should be happy she's finally stopped pining
after me. It'd be immature to get jealous so keep it cool and no
flirting and no matter how cute her outfit is don't say anything
about it. First up you've gotta apologize for making an ass of
yourself at her place and then go from there."

Amy gripped her white winter coat closer around her neck and
clutched at her new red velvet fedora when a strong, chilly wind
blew as she approached the cafe she agreed to meet Sonic at. She
had been at first hesitant as things had been rather awkward
between them and she had gotten the impression that Sonic had
been acting angry towards her ever since their falling out, this
had not made her feel good at all, which was probably the reason
she overcame her hesitation during the call and said yes. She
desperately wanted her friend back, even now she saw a future
with Sonic always being in her life. She hoped that thought
process didn't make her selfish.
Once she entered the cafe, she wiped her black fuzzy winter
boots on the welcome mat and then headed for their table. Her
"Sonic-Sense" picked up the blue blur before she saw him sitting
at a table in the corner and she gave him a wave. "Sonic! I'm so
sorry I'm late, I know how you hate waiting, I have no excuse"
she said, removing the red coat that revealed her white
pinstriped blouse and black knee-length skirt. She looked at the
three empty glasses of chocolate milkshakes and then at the
waitress that came by their table. "Black coffee please and a
jelly slice, thank you," she said quickly then turned her
attention back to Sonic and offered a genuine smile. "Hey...
it's... been a while."

Sonic shook his head dismissively when Amy apologized for
running late, holding up his hands he went on to stop her. "No
need to say sorry Amy. I arranged this little meet up so I could
apologize to you." When the pink hedgehog removed her coat Sonic
couldn't help but admire her sense of style it really had
improved over her old red hoop-dress. Clearing his throat Sonic
sucked the last of his shake before his blue eyes locked onto
hers. "Amy I'm sorry.....When I was staying at your place I was
a major jackass and lets just get this out there you caught me
by surprise and things got a little awkward." He said placing an
arm behind his head as he rubbed the back of his neck. "My
royalty check finally cleared and I've rebuilt my place so those
troubles are behind me." He offered a small smile before his
eyes moved up her arm noticing a number of serious scars. His
expression turned from apologetic to concerned as he saw she had
several cuts she couldn't cover up once she was out of her coat.
He stood slamming his seat back as a bolt of lightning shot
through his blue irises. "Who did this to you!?" He belted out
with a vengeful look upon his face.

Amy smiled when she heard the apology it pleased her that Sonic
was taking the higher ground. "You don't need to worry about
that anymore, Sonic. I forgive you. We're good." She said
smiling sweetly at him. "Congratulations on getting your home
back. I'm very happy for you." She paused and jumped a bit when
he suddenly stood up and yelled about someone doing something to
her. She followed his gaze and she spotted the scar tissue of
her 'training' with Shadow and the cuts she has received from
her latest and hopefully last attack from Scourge. She couldn't
tell him what happened with Scourge without risking of exposing
Sonya's secret, the one she swore her life on to keep,
literally. So it was the reader's digest version of Shadow
knifing her.
She pulled at the neckline of her blouse to try to cover the
scar a little more. Oh, that. That was an accident I got during
an advanced training regimen. I took a risk, got careless, and
paid the price. But I guess live and learn, right? This sort of
thing comes with the job description of Freedom Fighter... she
shook her head. I mean, 'Resistance Official'. she tried to
steer the conversation slightly away from her injuries and more
towards what the result of said 'training' was.
Oh right! Sonic! I can summon a new hammer! It's gold and
really really powerful! Much stronger than my usual Piko Piko
Hammer, and even my Giant Hammer. she said excitedly. I
haven't really been able to figure out the right trigger for it,
and it disappears after one use, but I'm sure I'll figure it
out.

Sonic sat and smiled while shaking his head. "Just don't go
pushing yourself too hard, rushing in headfirst is my thing. If
we both go rushing in whose going to bail me out if things go
south?" The blue hero raised an eyebrow at Amy's last statement.
"Gold huh? Cracking skulls in style I see. At any rate that's
going to be hard to miss that coming right for ya."
Sonic gave pause thinking for a moment before he carried on. "We
can always arrange a little practice some time, to see if we can
find the magic word to conjure that thing up. Don't worry, It
won't be as nuts as your last few, I promise." Seeing Amy
excited about fleshing out her abilities made Sonic smile; he
found it nice to hear about his friend's progress; seeing as he
had pushed his own abilities past their limits time and time
again. In his youth, there were many other speedsters on Mobius
who could give Sonic a run for his money, but these days he
could circle the planet seven times a second and even run
through time; needless to say he was finally the fastest thing
alive.
"Oh, I've just remembered a few members of The Resistance have
decided to leave Mobius for another zone altogether. I'm a
little fuzzy on the details but it involves warp rings and a
planet a lot like ours." Before long the blue hedgehog let out a
deep sigh looking to the crisp winter weather outside, getting
lost in this own thoughts.
"We had a good run."

Amy smiled at the offer of training and nodded, no offence to
Shadow but she did miss Sonic and figured that a few training
sessions and they would be able to smooth over their bumpy
moments. "I'd like that, Sonic. Now that I'm soon to be the
proud owner of my own shop, I'll have more free time, and it
will pay better than the museum."
The news of Resistance members leaving their zone made her
straighten and she noted Sonic's expression and tone. He sounded
so sad and lonely. Amy reached over and placed her hand on his.
"Oh, Sonic. I'm..." no. He didn't need pity right now. She shook
her head. "Well... don't worry about me. I'm not going anywhere
any time soon." she said with a smile. "Besides. If I know
anything about zones, there will be another Amy over there and
honestly, there can only be one of me per zone." She said with a
slight smile, then gave his hand a squeeze. "Some of us are
still running with you, Sonic. And we'll always got your back."

Sonic looked back from the window to see Amy's hand on his; had
this been in their younger days he'd be freaking out and Amy
would likely be fussing over him. However, since the two had
grown up and any and all romance was behind he took it for the
friendly comfort it was. He gave a goofy grin before pulling his
hand away listening to what she had to say. "Thanks, Ams. I
appreciate the pep talk. More than one of you? Yeah, we're
lucky, about one of you is all I can handle." The hedgehog
playfully mocked trying to lighten the mood.
Before he inquired about Amy's new business venture he decided
to reflect on the faction of Resistance members in question.
"I'll give em about six months. The way those rookies operate, I
wouldn't be surprised if the whole operation comes to a total
halt in that time."
Now with those thoughts behind him, Sonic looked surprised
towards the pink hedgehog. "A shop? Ams, I don't get it. You
love archaeology, landing that museum gig is all you've ever
talked about. Knuckles and I couldn't shut you up about ancient
lore, once you got started. You must have a hell of a product if
it's got you excited enough to quit the archaeology game. So
spill girl, gimme the details." He asked keen to find out just
what this shop was.

Amy grinned at the jab and shot him back a tease. "Yeah, now
that I think about it myself. Handling more than one of you
would be taxing for me." She feigned a dramatic whoa is me
gesture then giggled and smiled at her Sonic. Technically there
were two Sonics here but if Scourge didn't see himself as Sonic,
then she wouldn't see him that way either.
Amy laughed at the mention of her love of archaeology and
Sonic's curiosity so she shrugged and answered. "Well I still do
love ancient lore, I will always believe that history is sacred
and must be respected otherwise it will be repeated and not for
the better. But I realized that I wasn't doing my own history
any justice with my career path. Going through my parent's
marriage chest has opened my eyes to so many things I didn't
know about my own heritage, especially on my mom's side. She was
a gypsy who could see the future and give guidance to others.
When I was over in Mercia during the holidays, I asked my cousin
to help me locate their caravan as he mentioned that they were
still around and make trips to the kingdom every so often to do
work and sell things. So... I proposed the idea of helping bring
business to Mercia and my mother's caravan, I'm going to sell
their wares at my store: herbal remedies, essential oils,
infinite possibilities, along with a few personally made items
that I have learned to craft."
She was beaming. "I also want to have a fortune telling session
for certain days to offer advice to people and truly listen to
their worries and fears." her smile softened. "There are so many
people in our world with problems, and I want to use my skills
and my history to help them if I can." she paused to take a
breath and then looked at Sonic. "What do you think, Sonic?"

This was a lot to take in and a major shift in Amy's lifestyle,
but it was clear she'd thought the whole thing out. Pausing for
a moment Sonic looked Amy up and down then spoke as the words
came to him. "Well if you told most people you're giving up a
well-paying job doing what you love to hock gypsy wares, they'd
look at you like you're crazy. I'm not going to lie it sounds a
bit farfetched and could even put that lovely apartment of yours
that Shadow and I fought over to unpack, at risk." He held a
finger and thumb to his chin thinking about the situation for a
moment before throwing his hands into the air adding energy to
the following statement.
"But then again, who am I to talk? I'm a jobless drifter who
makes bank on selling out his image on merchandise. That's so
much crap floating around with this handsome mug on it, I'm a
bit annoyed by it actually. I'm too impatient to wait tables and
would rather just drift around, but that's just me. There's this
saying I love. Respect the will of others while believing in
your own. So while I may not feel the same as you I can
definitely respect the drive and ambition you've got in order to
chase this. Hell, I'll even be your first customer. It's good
you're getting in touch with your roots, but just remember
you've got a whole lot only you can offer this world." He said
before giving a reassuring wink.

Amy shook her head. I'm not worried. There's a call in the
market for herbal remedies and all natural cosmetics. Plus it
won't just be gypsy wares I'll be selling, I'll have Mercia made
inventory to sell, all the businesses that signed up with my
shop will send me their items to sell, I bring direct marketing
to the public which will increase their awareness and knowledge
of Mercia, and hopefully inspire them to go there and aid my
cousin's kingdom in it's economy which will increase the need
for jobs as the more items I sell will be in high demand which
will call for more makers of said items. the pink hedgehog
woman smiled. I already have the stock and will be opening the
shop soon, all it will take is a few advertisements in the paper
and maybe a radio announcement and I'll attract customers.
Amy took a sip of her black coffee then looked at Sonic. Thank
you for being concerned, I have had several months of planning
this, and it's always been a dream of mine to have my own shop.
