"See, you're doing great," James pointed out as he saw her skate
backwards but missed the fact she was cheating with her wings as
his full attention was on not falling again once he got up and
going again. Once she slowed down a bit so they were closer he
did nod at her proposal. The ice rink was heating up a fair bit.
"S- sure, if you want to, we can go for one right now," he
nodded as he came to a stop, "i think there's one upstairs. B-
but if you want something more quiet we can always go to the
coffee we always meet at. Your call. Besides, it seems they did
clear it up somewhat."

The normally naked hedgehog was sporting a gray hoodie to defend
against the cold as he approached the ice rink keeping his hands
warm in the jacket's pockets. He took a seat in the far corner
of the rink not intending on making himself known or taking to
the ice, in truth Sonic had shown up rather for the atmosphere
and to see the smiles on his friends faces. Normally Sonic was
one to storm the stage and steal the spotlight however since ice
was involved he'd likely be sliding around on his backside the
whole time since there was little friction. Water in any form
solid or liquid seemed to slow the blue hero down but today that
didn't matter so much.
With a relaxed smile he sprawled his arms across the bench
watching his best friends who both happened to be foxes
converse, while he occasionally glanced over to the others
letting any animosity drift away like water under the bridge as
it was the season to forgive and move ahead. Something about
this time of year ignited a fire in Sonic's heart allowing him
to open up a little more causing him to drop his snarky attitude
if only slightly. Taking a deep breath of the crisp winter air
Sonic smiled as the chill filled his lungs, he gave a slight
shiver that he oddly enjoyed as it made him feel alive. When the
jingle bells stated the blue hedgehog reflected on his thoughts
of Christmases past.
"I never was a fan of Christmas.....Skipped It every year until
I found Tails. All the gifts and material crap just seemed too
superficial but when I saw Tails open his first sprocket set on
the first Xmas we spent together I changed my mind. Next we
started inviting Uncle Chuck and well....it's been a Hedgehog
family tradition every year since for me to break something then
have those two nerds to see what they can make out of the busted
parts."
Giving a gleeful sigh, Sonic rolled his head backwards looking
to the blue sky above as his damaged ear occasionally picked up
snippets of Tails and Sonya's conversation. He soon sat up
looking towards the two as Sonya was getting awful chummy with
his little brother causing him to give a look of unimpressed
disapproval.

Rouge got of the ice rink and went to the front desk to get back
her shoes. The clerk was polite and that was good. The bat was
still blushing and she was confused as to why. James was just a
friend, right? She was trying to convince herself that it was
just a ln innocent outing, but something inside her said
otherwise. She nervously took her phobe out and texted a certain
blond Fennec. 'what was that for?! It's already awkward enough
for me to do more than just a coffee meeting. I honestly have no
idea what I'm doing right now' She quickly texted Sonya before
shoving her phone back into her pocket and returned to James.
"let's go upstairs, anyway they serve coffee, right?"She
nervously giggled and reached for his hand again. It seemed like
the right thing to do at the given moment

Once the skates had been returned at the front desk, James
followed Rouge upstairs to the cafe, just as confused by the way
he was feeling. He would be lying if he said he didn't like the
fact that he opened up a bit, but that didn't explain why he was
so warm and fuzzy inside now that he was near her, why he was
stammering so much, or why he was blushing. It didn't make
sense, they were friends, nothing more.... right? What was up
with him?
Nevertheless, once inside the cafe he gestured at a table.
"Just- just take a seat, Rouge. I will be there soon," he said
as he went for the counter, "i assume it will be the usual, or
do you want so- something special for the... occasion?"

"a seat? H-hum yes okay."She smiled and went to sit at the
furthest table she could and took out her phone again. 'I think
I need guidance, he told me to go get a seat...is he gonna pay
for coffee? I was kidding when I told hin he owed me one. What
do I do >-<?" The bat was nervous and definitly out of her
comfort zone.
She took deep breaths while he was away and tried to focus.
'Does this count as a date? Wait is it a date? Is he trying to
date me? How do I know?' these were the questions she was asking
herself.

Lifting a spoonful of funnel cake halfway to her lips the golden
feathered duck suddenly paused. A confused expression flickering
across her features while she vaguely listened to Viola make the
introductions and then her sister promptly make her re-entrance
only a few minutes afterwards. Her baby blue hues carefully and
curiously scanning the rest of the small café area she found the
source of her unease her eyes met intensely aqua blue ones. With
both Sonya and Viola distracted with talking to Tails she hopped
out of her seat in the booth, and made her way towards her
sisters best friend. Ordinarily Louise wouldn’t have dared
wander off without adult supervision but he was literally only
across the room, and she knew that however protective Sonya was
that once she realised who she’d wandered off to keep
company she wouldn’t mind one bit.
Her unease waning once she was within close range of the
hedgehog she pounced playfully onto his lap in a form of
greeting, before cheekily quipping. “Your’re late,
what are you doing creepily lurking in the corner?” Blunt
as her question was she reasoned that it was a perfectly valid
one after all it was unusual for Sonic of all people to want to
fade into the background during a social situation. Now sat
comfortably in Sonics lap, the youngster gently stretched her
dangling legs out, deciding to try make conversation. "Sooo ...
my dad says your're still a homeless bum living in tent by the
river .. how you holding up with that?"
Feeling the vibration of her phone in her coat pocket, Sonya
slid it out quickly skimming the texts that her friend was
sending. Her fingertips flying across her keypad at record
spread Sonyas gaze flickered downwards to the screen. ‘Try
not to overthink it.. focus on just having as much fun as
possible that’s what you guys came here to do right? James
will be happy if you relax and simply be yourself! and yes
he’s going to pay for coffee, from what I eased dropped- I
mean overheard.. he asked if you wanted your usual.. so just
breathe and keep calm you’ve got this!’ Looking up
from her phone after sending the text Sonya briefly caught her
nervous friends gaze, giving her what she hoped with be a
reassuring thumbs up. Before turning her attention back to
Tails, Viola, Sebastian and.. wait where the heck was her
sister?! eyes widening, her gaze began to almost frantically
flicker round the room.

When Sonya's younger sister jumped into his lap he couldn't help
but disrespect her father in front of her. "I'm holding up okay,
me and nature kinda have this thing going. Speaking of your Dad
how furious was he when he had to chew his way out of the pet
carrier I left him in? Heh....that was a good night." Sonic
snickered to himself before ruffling the little ducks feathers
playfully. "I wouldn't say I'm lurking I'm just enjoying
watching my friends be happy. Besides I don't exactly think
Sonya and Rouge feel like talking to me after that stunt I
pulled at the night club."
Suddenly realizing he was talking to a child he dropped the
social drama and decided on a more child friendly topic. "So
whats Santa bringing you this year? Got some really awesome toy
on your list or you after a new bike like most kids this year?"
When Sonya's gaze started darting around the room the blue
hedgehog gestured towards the fox. "I think she's looking for
you. Do me a favor kid and head back before she comes looking
for you, your big sister gets powerful anxious and it's not nice
to make her worry." With that he dropped the duckling on her
feet and ushered her towards the booth almost as if shooing her
away.

Tails hoped that he wasn't interrupting something important by
asking where his friend was, he had already done the asking part
though and hoped they didn't mind. The fox smiled a little shyly
noticing that the hedgehog seemed a bit stunned and blinked
herself out of it before finally answering, sometimes he forgot
that he was up there with Sonic nowadays, both his sidekick and
his own person especially during the war. He was more used to
just the sidekick part.
When Viola answered he smiled more to hear that Sonya was in
fact still here and he'd wave to the two little ones with a
smaller wave just for them after the hedgehog motioned to
Sonya's little sister. "Oh thank you! I worried if I was a bit
too late to coming" He'd let off a relieved sigh seeing as that
wasn't the case.
The fox soon also realized how he hadn't even introduced
himself, where were his manners today? He was about to do so
when she beat him to it! He would take her extended hand with a
smile, giving her hand a firm but gentle shake, "It's a pleasure
to meet you Viola! Any friend of Sonya's is a friend of mine! My
name is Miles, Miles Prower, but my friends just call me Tails"
Hearing she wasn't from the city made him a little curious, "Not
from the city huh? Do you mind me asking where you're from? I've
been to a lot of places in my plane but it's always fascinating
learning about the places different people are from" His blue
eyes seemed to spark of interest, he was older now for sure but
still had that young curiosity of his.
His look then suddenly became one of surprised as a pair of arms
went around him in an embrace, it was Sonya!
The fox would smile warmly and hug the fennec back before
letting her go when she pulled back, "Glad to be here and to see
you! I'm so sorry I was late I had a list of things I wanted to
get out of the way and lost track of the time!" He'd rub a hand
behind his head shyly when he caught her looking him over but
then perked back up when she complimented his ice skates, "Thank
you! I made them myself!" He'd say with almost child-like
excitement, happy his friend noticed his work. The fox looked a
little mesmerized when Sonya shook her head and her blonde curls
bounced in a rather lovely motion, so much to the point he
almost missed what she said after, he'd blink and shake his head
lightly, snapping back to reality. "Y-yes! Viola just introduced
herself" He'd then look to the cub she mentioned last, a complex
explanation? "Did something happen just before I got here?" He'd
ask, looking a little concerned. It didn't stop him however from
introducing himself to the cub either, if they were friends with
Sonya and Viola, they must be a pretty good kid. Kneeling down a
little to be at the same height as Sebastian, the fox would hold
his hand out to him and offer him a smile, "Hey there buddy, I'm
Tails! It's nice to meet you, is that funnel cake any good? It
sure looks delicious"
By the time he finished talking to Sebastian, Sonya's little
sister who he was going to talk to next, was gone from where she
once was, the fox's ears went up like he was on alert rather
quickly as he looked around the cafe, "Hey uh, Where did Louise
waddle off to?"

Viola heard the little voice thanking her for her words and it
put a small smile on her face to know that she was some help to
the little duckling once more. Even when talking to the small
cub, she seemed too help a little. It gave her a certain warmth
to know that she could change the way a child is feeling for
good, despite never being around them. It was natural to her,
probably something she got from her mother. Since does remember
how sweet and kinds she was to everyone, especially the kids.
"Mother..."
She slowly shook her head twice to take her away from her
thought, easy enough too, because then the fox took her hand to
shake it, Vi returning with an equally firm and gentle one, just
like her farther taught her. "A weak handshake could make people
see you as weak minded" Anyway, back to Tails. "Well, Sonya and
I really just became friends today, but it's been nice to gain
one." She responded with a little laugh, a bigger smile when
hearing he was exactly who she thought. "Tails, huh? I knew it
was you. I've heard about you and the radio and read in the
paper. I'm impressed and can easily say a fan. I think I can be
pretty intelligent sometimes, but no where near your level!" Vi
stated to get excited towards the end and had to dial it back.
But it was so great to finally meet him. Ah, but then he asked
where she was from, made her excitement fall about a notch or
two, but tried her best to hide that. "Ah, well, where I'm
from?" Surely he knows of the Mystic Ruins. But, should she
mention the place she knows he hasn't? She would test it out,
but not tell him her background connection. "Currently I live in
the Mystic Ruins, I have since I was six years old. But I'm
originally from somewhere else." And just like that, her comes
Sonya to save the day for her, calling out the twin tailed fox's
name. The same way she called Rouge's. "Not a normal thing,
huh?" Viola quietly said to herself with a small laugh, maybe it
would be enough for Sonya to pick up on, if she wasn't so
excited. Watching the two converse was very nice to see,
especially given that at the start the fennec was worked up
about knowing showing. But the hedgehog had been right, they may
be busy but they will show when they can.
As Tails stammered to answer the question of introductions,
Viola simply nodded with his response at the same time. It had
been done away with in time for her to come and enjoy her
friend's company, and kept her from having to really explain
where she was from. With a sigh of relief and looking away from
the two, she happened to catch a glimpse of Louise taking off
and waddle her way to someone she didn't know, at least not in
the distance and in the grey hoodie. And after the confrontation
that Sonya and her death it, Vi wasn't going to allow that
again. The hedgehog got up from her seat and head the same way
that Louise did, easily moving her way through the crowds of
people like a gentle breeze. She happened to hear Tail's voice
ask where the little girl went to, at the same time of following
the small voice, who was on this male's lap. As she got to them
though, he had already put her back on her feet and stood right
in the direction he was trying to get the little girl to go to.
She didn't even pay attention to who he was, her focus was on
the little one. "Little Sunshine, what are you doing taking off
like that? You may be small, but you won't go unnoticed." She
knelt down to her level so not to loom over her, give a softer
approach. "What caught your attention, little one?" Again, she
really paid no attention to the male she was just with, he was
trying to keep from being noticed, and it worked with the purple
haired one at least. Besides, her main focus was on the duckling
and her safety.

Sonics sentence opener being predictably less favourable for her
father caused the duckling to subtly roll her baby blue irises
while she listened to him politely all smiles and her expression
open. “Yeah between me and you he was pretty mad.. so mad
that apparently according my brothers who overheard my mum on
the phone he was vein throbbing in the corner of his forehead
angry.. which certainly didn’t sound healthy.”
Cupping a tiny hand over her beak to muffle a giggle, in sync
with the hedgehogs sniggering Louise felt a little guilty
afterwards, after all she was raised to be well mannered and
gracious to her elders so she knew that laughing about her
father behind his back wasn’t particularly kind but he
could be so uptight sometimes especially as far as Sonic was
concerned. She didn’t understand his resentment for the
hedgehog that put in the time to help her make up imaginary
games and secretly snuck her candy that she wasn’t allowed
to have. Not quite sure what he meant by the nightclub scenario
the youngster decided to diplomatically improvise a reply.
“My sister wouldn’t have invited you here today if
she didn’t want to have fun with you so don’t you
think your’re overthinking?" Hearing his enquiry about
Christmas caused her to snicker. “SON-IC I’m almost
nine! not five… but I do want a chemistry kit from
santa..” After being placed promptly back on her feet,
Louise started to take a couple of obedient steps back the way
she came though she didn’t get far.
Her beak flushing a light shade of pink in reaction to being
caught wandering off she was all set with a sweet smile and a
nervous titter as she beamed up at older girl. “I’m
sorry Viola! I didn’t mean to worry anyone…”
Grateful that Viola decided to kneel down to her eye level the
duckling felt more much confident in her next words. “The
hedgehog behind me caught my attention Vi! don’t worry I
know he looks like a dodgy hobo because he technically is
nowadays.. but he’s great!” Cuddling up to the
purple hedgehog, she turned to look back at Sonic. “Sonic
this is Viola, me and Sonya met her down on the ice rink today!
where she basically helped Sonya saved me from being eaten alive
by a jaguar with rage issues. Viola this is Sonic The Hedgehog
my sisters best friend but my dad just calls him the local trash
bag of Mobius which is subject to debate. I mean according to my
daddy he has a hoarding problem and thinks he can stick his junk
wherever he likes but i feel that's an over exaggeration Sonic
isn't super messy!"
Sonyas rapid heart rate increase coming to a slow hearing
Louises voice out of the blue she felt a variety of emotions all
of at once the most prominent one being relief but also
confusion. Her large ears flickering, as she caught snippets of
conversation that was now apparently happening across the room
her gaze drifted until she located the trio, seeing that Louise
was more than safe being the most important factor the second
thing that came to was something along the lines of Sonic had
arrived and not tried to be the centre of attention? was he ill?
Releasing a sigh of relief, as she waved Viola and Sonic over to
come and join them, her next rather weary comment was for Tails
ears only. “Trust Louise to go wandering off the minute
Sonic was in range...”While it was true that his behaviour
during public outings had been horrific as of late he was still
her dear friend and she was glad to see him the last thing she
wanted was for him to feel left out or worse feel like he
wasn’t welcome to interact with her at all now.
With Sonic and Viola beckoned, Sonya gave an awkward rub of the
back of head while she went back to the question Tails had asked
moments before “Did something happen just before I got
here?" Wrapping her free hand around her opposite arm Sonya
phrased her next words delicately.
[color=limegreen][b]“Not exactly.. I mean it was a
misunderstanding that got seriously out of hand.. nothing to
worry about though thankfully Viola helped me handle it.”
