Building Chaos (Tails & Shadow)

In peaceful times when an evil scientist isn't around to ruin
everybody's day with murderous robots, people would normally
occupy themselves with everyday activities such as a hobby,
completing their work studies for school, working in jobs to put
food on the table, and generally do whatever peaks their
interest, Shadow is no exception. A canyon could be described as
the scenery, a yellow/orange speed trail of light is moving
insanely fast on a path separating the rock hard architecture.
It doesn't appear to have a goal in mind of where it wants to
go, a desire to run between every vast open crack on the canyon
walls in a series of laps.
Sometimes when he isn't being sent on a mission or brooding in
a corner, he would pay the canyon's a visit to run around and
enjoy the cool air as a way to relieve some stress, or he wants
to prevent his movement skills from getting rusty. Shadow lost
count of how many times he ran through the canyon, his mind sort
of drifted away in favor of allowing his shoes to stimulate the
sensation of being weightless. On the surface a lot of leg work
is require to skate around like he does, personally he always
felt as if he is flying regardless.
The ebony offshoot of a shrew decided to go for one more lap,
suddenly his air shoes sputter a few times and deactivated,
momentum is never kind to anyone choosing to move so fast,
"Huh!? Wh-Whoa!" she forced the spiny pincushion to tumble on
the dirt, going a hefty distance until he struck a rock
formation structure. "Oof!" his body limped before standing up,
he pulled off a shoe to examine it raising an eyebrow, he
checked the each of its bottom holes for anything that might of
clogged them up and found nothing. He shrugged and puts his shoe
back on.
Shadow began to slide his feet over the other through the air
and after twelve seconds the black hedgehog will roll on the
ground once again, smacking a different wall this time. he stood
up to shake away dirt and shrugging off the impact. "Whats going
on?" he took off his shoes again to examine one more, he shook
each of them and discovered a sound of rattling in both shoes.
"Hmm, looks like my footwear are in need of repairs, better go
pay Tails a visit," acknowledging his gifted intelligence.
Shadow teleported to the fox boy's workshop appearing in front
of the entrance, he knocked on the door a couple times hoping he
would answer.

Hearing a hefty knock at his workshop door, the fox's right ear
would flick. Who could that be? He was sure the majority of his
friends were busy today, guess one wasn't as busy as he thought!
Tails would wander over to his door and open it, flipping up his
protective face shield in the process so he could see who it
was, the young boy would have perfectly golden yellow and white
fur where the shield had just been but just about everywhere
else on him was dirty in some way or scorched with black ash
from whatever he had just been doing. He seemed rather surprised
to see Shadow too, that was for sure. "Shadow!" He'd take a step
back at first, remembering what Sonic had said about the other
hedgehog, before then pushing the thoughts aside and offering
for the hedgehog to come in. Sonic was his best friend but even
he was wrong about some people. "What brings you here? Is
everything alright?" The fox would ask sounding curious, eager
to know what brought Shadow of all people to his workshop.

Tails being smothered in Sood is one of the first thing's
Shadow's eyes picked up on, he suspected he must be occupying
himself in some kind of an invention, but that isn't why the
black hedgehog make an appearance on his doorstep. "Its my
shoes, they stopped working all of a sudden during my casual run
in the canyons, I was wondering if you know how to fix them" he
isn't thrilled in asking someone else for help, believing in his
ability to accomplish stuff on his own, but what choice does he
have?
He isn't a super genius like Tails and Eggman and he knows this,
they are probably the only two people in the world who can
repair anything if they put their mind to it. Eggman for sure is
a no go, because he is well...evil, Tails is a respected member
of the Resistance so naturally the black hedgehog choose him, he
probably can understand how does his shoes work better than
Shadow himself.

"Oh!" Tails looked down to the shoes Shadow always seemed to
wear around, they looked fine but Tails trusted that if Shadow
had dragged himself all the way here to him to ask for help on
them, then something was up. "Well I can sure try! Come on in
and take a seat, I'll start checking them over once you've got
them up on my table over there" The fox would point to an empty
workshop bench table that had two little swirl stools perched
underneath it to sit on, one presumably being Tails and the
other was probably Sonic's or there for convenience.
When the hedgehog was in Tails would close the door behind him
and wander over to the bench, it had a sink on the side and the
fox would quickly rinse his hands and arm as best as he could,
removing his current gloves to put on some new ones to work
with. He didn't want to dirty Shadow's shoes with stains of what
he was working on before!
"Just put them up here and I'll start working on them right
away, I have some spare shoes if you'd like to wear them in the
meantime too?" He'd motion towards a lower draw on one of his
many desks, it was labelled but it seemed to be rather smudged
out now, probably from its overuse during the war. "So you said
you were running through the canyons, right? Was there anything
there that might've caused this? Or anywhere you've been
recently that could've?"

Shadow nodded entering the wooden establishment, he scanned his
surroundings fascinated by how much stuff the boy genius
invented over the course of his life. He hasn't interacted with
Tails that much, he could tell this boy worked up a lake to
build all of this stuff. Shadow wonder if he ever got paid for
this occupation, he will have to ask about it later when the
repairs to his shoes are competed. He approached the table to
sit on a stool to get started, he plucked his footwear to placed
them on the table.
"I don't know what exactly caused them to shut down, last place
I went to is Chun-nun to complete an assignment for G.U.N, I
examined both of my shoes and discovered something is loose
inside of the soles" he glanced at the bottom piece of the
traveling devices.

Tails listened carefully as Shadow explained where he had been
recently and how he had examined his shoes and thought there to
be something loose inside of them. "I see, I see" He'd murmur,
curious to find out exactly what was the source of Shadow's shoe
problem. When the footwear was placed on the table, the fox
would get to work, bringing them closer to him on the desk
before looking over their top and then flipping to check the
bottom, picking them up individually to give them a shake,
listening. Sure enough, he heard what sounded like something
loose from the inside. "Well it looks like you're right, it
seems to be an inside problem" The fox would look to the
hedgehog before kneeling down and pulling out a smaller sized
toolbox, which he then set up on the workbench. "Do you mind if
I open them up to try and get a look?" He'd ask, better to ask
first just in case right? "If you don't mind me asking also...
Who made these for you? They're very well crafted" It was so
odd, hearing how Shadow was to Sonic, and then actually spending
time with Shadow, who Sonic described to be Shadow sounded
nothing like how the hedgehog was being in the moment.

"Do it" the black hedgehog giving him permission to take them
apart, whatever it takes to get it done so he could attend to
his own affairs. The younger mobian soon asked a question
striking his heart close to home, opting to hesitate and an
answer. A part of him wished Tails wouldn't be so curious about
their origin, but its to be expected, a brainiac like him will
always dwell in the endless possibilities of science. Shadow
felt nervous on how Tails will respond, if he discovered he has
a connection with their most hated enemy, would he kick him out
of the workshop? Would he refuse helping out the hedgehog in his
time of need just because they were related?
"They were created by the Professor, Gerald Robotnik" looking
away from Tails choosing to be honest with the kitsune. He
could've lied to him but there was no point, he most likely
would've figured it out anyway.

Tails nodded and grabbed out a screwdriver to help him take
apart Shadow's beloved shoes bit by bit, paying close attention
to how to shoe went together so he could put it back the same
way it was undone. He seemed rather fascinated with the
structure of the shoes as he went along, carefully placing aside
the parts he had taken loosened.
When Shadow hesitated to answer his question though, the boy was
no fool, he understood why. Tails' ears would flatten back a
little bit as he glanced aside, feeling a bit bad for not
knowing better to not ask such a thing. "Sorry if it's personal,
I didn't know, you don't have to answer" Soon though, the
hedgehog answered.
Gerald Robotnik? Huh, how interesting. "Oh, really?" The fox
sounded more interested then anything potentially negative.
"Well he did an excellent job!" The fox would say in compliment,
he wanted to ask more but thought it best that he probably
didn't. So instead, he'd take a closer peek to the shoes. "Hmm,
I think I know what you're problem here is" He'd begin, spinning
one shoe around to show a loose mechanism from inside the shoe,
"This part right here, which I think is where the air is sucked
in through your shoes to help give you more momentum, it's
broken, it's come loose in both shoes and needs to be reattached
properly." He'd explain, before getting to work on doing just
that, "Not to worry, I'll have them fixed up in no time! Where
are you off to once you've got your shoes back?" Maybe this
question wouldn't be as bad as the last?

Shadow half expected for the boy to yell at him and kick the
black hedgehog out of his shop for being affiliated with a
Robotnik, most people would consider it a taboo. His
expectations shattered surprising the ultimate lifeform, the boy
genius relished this revelation in a positive light, giving a
complaint on the professor's handy work. Tails discovered the
root of the problem regarding his footwear, revealing an
essential component is detached in both shoes.
Shadow scratched his head with an index finger, "Interesting,
that explains why they aren't working properly, you have my
thanks" in truth he didn't know his shoes needed oxygen to work,
all of this time he thought they were powered by an ever lasting
battery or something, who would've thought? Shadow continued to
watch the fox boy repair his belongings in silence, until he
asked about his goals once he is finished. "I don't know, I
could either continue my running exercise elsewhere or go to the
arcade to pass the time before I'm called in to work" he
answered.
