The First Employee [Reck & Sabine]
By: SpaceofWaste Date: November 16, 2018, 8:05 am
---------------------------------------------------------
9:00 am: Reck, sitting in his study, hears his alarm go off down
the hall. He stayed up all night again. The porcupine let out a
loud groan. Reck spent his night trying to find any information
on Vangaurd. A relative, or at least that's what the demon
claimed. Though with the loss of his family home when he was
young. Reck had few family records. He would have to take a trip
to the library, at the school where he grew up. They have
records on every attending family. That would come later. Right
now the porcupine was occupied. Today he had a new employee. His
only employee. He spent the night getting everything ready. He
had to get her to fill out some forms when she came in to
finalize some things along with payroll.
9:20 am: The porcupine stepped out of the shower mostly
refreshed. After getting dressed He walked downstairs. His
apartment was the upper story of his store on the outter edge of
mobotropolis. He stretched as he got close to his coffee
machine, and started the pot. He rubbed his eyes and let out a
loud yawn. It was going to be a long day. Not letting the coffee
finish the porcupine picks up the pot and moves it to the side.
He places his mug under the stream until it fills full. After
that he replaces the pot. Reck puts on his jacket and goes to
sit outside. His stool sat next to the smoke pole the legal
distance from the door way of his shop, but still in sight.
9:46am: The porcupine sat plastered to his stool. His coffee
empty and the 5th butt just went down the pole. He was exhausted
and stressed. He's never had an employee before. Sabine even let
him know of her stubborness. Reck let out a long sigh and a
silent four letter word starting with F. He couldn't sleep the
night prior, rather he didn't let himself. The porcupine was
unnerved by the demon from the staff. He was trying to fight the
urge of just going back inside and locking up, but he told
Sabine she had the job. He couldnt let her down. So there he sat
waiting for his new employee.

While Sabine was on the edge regarding her new job, she made
sure to hide as she saw her brother off to school. He had
assured her it would be fine and that she could do it. She
couldn't help but find it funny that her younger sibling was the
one encouraging her and not the other way around.
Nevertheless, she was never one to back down in the face of a
challenge. So off she was to try her new job at Reck's place.
Upon arriving, she was surprised to see him outside and waiting
on her in the way he was, but that was mainly because she didn't
know how stressed he was.
"Morning, boss," she said and raised a hand to get his
attention, "slept well?"
Her attempt at small talk was a feeble move to hide how tense
she was about all this. She knew Reck had been understanding of
her issues, but she was used to her employments only lasting
until the first argument. Hopefully this would be different.

Reck nods to Sabine. "Good morning Sabine." The expression on
his face not matching what he was saying. Reck was trying to be
polite. He reaches his arms out in a long stretch that pops his
back. "Sorry, I look like a total dingus." The porcupine says
with a very light very tired smile.
He stood from his stole and led Sabine inside the store. A
cigarette butt no longer burning still clinched in his lip.
Locking the door behind them. "I forgot to sleep last night. I
was... studying." The porcupine said pouring himself another cup
of coffee. Reck felt terrible for being in such a state on her
first day, but he loses track of time while studying. He could
do nothing about it now.
Reck motioned her upstairs where he lead her to his kitchen
table. He pulls out a chair on both sides of the table. He waits
for sabine to "Sorry, I only have one desk, but it's in the
study. I tend to get lost in there." The porcupine yawned before
continuing. "I'm sure you're aware you are my first employee. I
don't have any videos for you to watch; just some paper work I
need you to sign. Nothing you haven't seen before." He sits at
the table where the paper are already sat infront of the
opposite chair.

Sabine nodded in return and followed Reck into the building.
While she was was a bit confused by the disconnect between his
words and face, she wasn't a stranger to such things. The
assistant at the Job center certainly did it whenever she had
shown herself.
"Don't mention it, i am just glad you gave me this chance
despite everything," she answered as she watched him pouring
himself a new cup of coffee. She was frankly stunned that he
would be able to study for the entire night, even if she found
it a bit irresponsible.
He then mentioned her upwards to the kitchen where he sat down
across from the table to sign the papers. This was without a
doubt the most unprofessional thing she had ever gone through.
Even if she was his first employee. Nevertheless, she sat down
across from him and nodded.
"Indeed, i am way too used to doing this thing," she confirmed
as she signed the paper, "just as i am used to get the fire
notice."

The porcupine rubs his eyes and reads over each paper. After the
jaguar hands them back. He didn't say anything about her
statement with the firing notice. Once she is done with the
papers. The porcupine figures it's time to explain to Sabine
what her job will be. "So, you're going to be a stocker. You'll
help stock shelves and help me rearrange items from time to
time." He pauses in another yawn. "You'll spend alot of your day
in the warehouse. Just becareful, I have tools for robots and my
work bench back there. It's rarely used. I might have you help
me move some of it around." Reck takes a long drink from his
coffee.
He smiles at Sabine. "If you'll follow me." The porcupine stands
up and leads her back down stairs and through a door behind the
counter. Through the door is a warehouse bigger than his sales
floor. It L shaped around the sales floor. A garage door on the
side wall. An oil stain sat not far from the door. The spot
where Reck parked his truck. Metal racks of computers line the
walls all arranged by brand. Bins of computer parts in the
corner closest to the sales floor. Where the L branched off a
work bench sat with a half built robot suspended on a rack
beside it. Tools scattered across the bench. A welder underneath
it.
"This is my warehouse. Where you will work. When you get here in
the mornings. I'll have a list of computers and parts I need for
the sales floor." The porcupine walks over and props himself up
against the work bench. Reck lets out a chuckle. He was making a
terrible impression on Sabine, and he knew it. Shaking his head
he stands back up and points to a roller ladder against the
racks. "Safest way is to use that and take one box down at a
time. You won't be rushed for time. We're open 10:00-18:00. Any
questions?"

Sabine nodded as he explained her job in detail. Based on his
description it sounded like she could do it well, it involved
lifting and her social contact was limited. The more she thought
about it, the better it sounded to her.
She then followed him down to the warehouse. It seemed cozy
enough for her to spend 8 hours a day here. Even as Reck had to
prop himself up on the workbench she didn't seem to lose too
much faith.
"Seems like a cozy place to work," she trailed as she looked
around before looking to Reck when he asked if she had any
questions, "not as of right now. I have to make sure you got
enough of each thing and move them around so they are stacked
correctly, right? Because that should be doable."

The comment about the place being cozy makes Reck smile.
"Thanks, I try to make it homely." Reck lets out a small laugh.
"Yeah, Sabine, you nailed it. Should be a cake walk. Ask any
questions if you ever need to. We don't want any unnessery
mistakes." He gives the jaguar the list for the day.
[li]Somy Computer Montiors model 610-8A (x2)[/li]
[li]Somy Vison Laptop 15" (x4)[/li]
[li] Syano Computer, Monitor, and Keyboard set. (x1)[/li]
A small note on the paper says check parts in bin #2 with sales
floor.
With a stretch Reck says. "You can handle that, if you need
anything come ask. Brand locations match the corresponding aisle
on the floor." The porcupine points to the racks on the right
wall first. " Aisle 1 is the closest to the garage door after
that is 2 and then three. Aisle 4 5 and 6 are on the opposite
wall 4 being closest to the garage door. Computer parts go on
the wall beside the warehouse entrance. I have to go open the
store." Reck points to the corner, a flat cart already loaded
with some things not on the list. "Later today we have to make
space on the sales floor for them. New product, I'm hoping it
brings in new customers." A glisten in his tired yellow eyes
showing hope.
Reck walks out of the warehouse letting Sabine get to work. The
porcupine unlocks the front door. Starting his day as he always
did. He leaves his til ready for the next day. The porcupine
isn't worried about anyone trying to take the money. The til is
sealed with a strong locking spell.

Sabine took a moment to look over the list and then nodded to
him, "understood, boss i will see to it."
Now that she was left alone, she got to work moving the hardware
along. It was good she was strong, because that meant she wasn't
weighed down and could take greater care with the computers and
additional set-up parts as she moved them to their respective
place and counting them off. That being said, she was taking it
slow up the roller ladder, she wasn't used to having the ladder
move from side to side and while it made it easy to relocate it,
it made her equally uncertain in her movement.
It peaked when she just barely managed to save what she was
carrying from falling to the ground. This was going to take some
getting used to.

The porcupine spent his time on the sales floor dusting displays
and counter tops. So far there were no customers. This was
nothing new to Reck. The days normally slow at the shop. It
didn't bother the porcupine. He preferred it this way. It made
the buisness a little less stressful. Though things had been
slower since the war.
Once the porcupine was done dusting. Reck begain sweeping the
aisles. He grabbed the broom stowed behind the counter and
startet in aisle one. Reck took pride in his store. He wanted it
to stay as clean as he could keep it. He yawned loudly between
sweeping aisle 4 and 5. The porcupine was regretting not
sleeping.
Once he felt the store was clean. Pouring himself another cup of
coffee Reck took his seat behind the counter. Still not a single
customer, but he had seen quite a few window shoppers. He
grabbed a small red book from under the counter. A book of
simple spells, that he would probably never use. Wiping his eyes
he opened the book and began reading.

Eventually, Sabine did get the last box into place and ticked it
off without having broken anything, which was better than she
had expected. But now she was a bit lost in regard of what to
do. Under normal circumstances she would be left with no
shortage of work when she was employed from the job center. But
now she was actually had some downtime while waiting for her
next assignment.
If this was how things were going to go, this would be easy once
she got the hang of it, for now though, she decided to head to
the sales floor and ask what else her job entailed.
"Seems like it's a slow day, huh?" she asked when she saw how
empty the place was, "but i finished moving the crates. Anything
else i need to do before we start to move that new merchandise?"
