Freezing Light (Ty & Kaibette only)
By: Ty the Hedgewolf Date: October 13, 2018, 8:21 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
One day it the afternoon clear skies illuminated the city,
showcase every nook and cranny of buildings in need of repairs,
its local mobians worked diligently to restore the city to its
former glory with nothing to interrupt them, a sign the lot of
them are survivors. A member of the resistance is one of those
workers, he decided to take a break to venture beyond the city's
protective borders for a cup of coffee, its unlikely a lot of
shops are open, most of the establishments are either still
intact being partially disfigured with their goodies stolen or
their remains became one among the dirt and concrete, being
piles of rubble.
How inconvenient..
The muscle toned mobian visited station square, a sister city
who has its fair share of troubles, a water creature soaked the
town years ago, it also would've been blown to smithereens if it
wasn't for Tails who stepped on to give Eggman an ass whooping.
Ty observed his surroundings, the locals are tending to their
own affairs without a care in the world, Unlike mobotropolis,
the area didn't suffer a hefty amount of damage, which is a good
thing, he didn't want anyone else to deal with the same problems
their neighboring city went through.
Ty continued to tread on the sidewalk not really going in a
certain direction, he more or less focused on what's in front of
him until emerald eyes shifted at some buildings. He eventually
found a coffee shop brand referred to as "Sunbucks" a place he
often visit for his dosage of caffeine. He causally strolled
through the door to wait in the back of the line, he watched a
costumer place his order, presumably a cappuccino if his ears
picked up on anything.
"Sir I want a medium cappucino"
"Will that be all?"
"Yes"
"that will be $2.65 rings"
Ty glanced over at the ice latte option from the back of the
line, all he can think about is run down that cold beverage over
his taste buds.

Station Square was a bust. A plane of existence devoid of anyone
who understood the nuances of a developed creative vision. A
waste of her time. A home for those lacking a mature palate for
illustration. And, a city where the majority of the population
seemed to have a splintery stick shoved up their rear end. At
least--the majority of the population that the downtrodden genet
had the misfortune of speaking with that day. She had the
sneaking suspicion that her luck wouldn’t change, as it was only
lunchtime and there were several more meetings for her to attend
to. Just based on their previous correspondence, she was
positive that each individual was absolutely honored to meet her
in the flesh. Not.
A frustrated sigh slipped past Kaibette’s lips as her heels
clicked across the pavement in a lopsided rhythm. The portfolio
case she carried was hung off her shoulder like a purse, despite
it being bulkier and heavier. As such, she found herself tilting
slightly in the opposite direction, in an effort to balance out
the weight-- the awkward gait was just a (somewhat embarrassing)
side effect. Still, she tottered on in the direction of the
nearest source of cheap caffeine: Sunbucks. Before she even
neared the building, she fingered through each pocket to see how
much she could afford. She didn’t have much, but it was enough
for something warm and soothing.
She entered. She stood in line. She waited. She eyed the decor.
She peeked around the taller mobian in front of her to eye the
menu. She prayed that a single person-sized sinkhole would open
beneath her and suck her into the abyss so she wouldn’t have to
go to any more galleries. She entertained the idea of getting a
smaller drink and something to eat instead of getting just a
drink. She shot down the idea. She shifted her weight
frequently, wishing that she was back in her nicely cushioned
boots or even not wearing heels at all. She hoped her agitation
wasn’t obvious. She endured.

It was eventually Ty's turn to place an order, there is no need
to search the menu, he only has one type of coffee in mind he
preferred over the others. The beefy mobian approached the
counter as soon as the previous costumer retrieved their drink,
sharp eyes observed the cashiers facial features, it would seem
they would rather to go home or someplace else from his
perspective, he never worked in a coffee shop so he could be
imagining things. "I want to order an extra large vanilla ice
coffee and nothing else" he requested, swaying his tail.
"That will be $3.45 rings" they punched in the numbers in the
cashier prompting Ty to pull out his wallet to pay 4 rings
instead, he is given the remaining change then step aside to
wait for his beverage.

Kaibette stepped forward, her resting b!tch face rivaling the
expression of the cashier. At least it masked her anxiety.
“One large Matcha Latte please.” She did her best to raise her
voice above the clutter of noise in the room, but she faltered
and trailed off at the end. Her best wasn’t good enough.
“One large what?” The cashier asked. Strike one-- she felt heat
building behind her face.
“Matcha Latte.” Her voice raised a bit more. She felt like she
was screaming, but it was probably a normal volume for the
situation.
“Okay. Your total is $3.25 rings.” Strike two-- She had only
counted $3.19 in her pockets. Still, she confidently placed what
she had on the countertop and stared the cashier down as they
quickly counted through it. Her gaze was firm, but her
nervousness could be seen in how her hands fiddled with the
strap of her portfolio case.
“You’re $0.06 short..” Strike three-- Kai moved down to her
pockets once more, searching for the extra change. Seconds felt
like minutes as she quickly went through each pocket of her
portfolio and blazer. Whatever she found, she placed on the
counter: only $0.03.
The cashier must have been tired of her holding up the line. Or
maybe it was her blushing face and ears. Regardless, they let
her slide. She quickly stepped aside, bushing past the burly
wolf to get to an empty chair. Her portfolio found a place
beside it before she took a seat. The genet buried her heated
face in her hands, both hiding from the awkward situation that
just transpired and trying to keep herself from noticing the few
sets of eyes that glanced curiously in her direction. Her
fingers massaged her brows as she waited for the red tint on her
cheeks and ears to subside, and her tail curled around her legs
in a protective gesture.
It felt like she waited an eternity and a half before a cup was
placed on the other counter. She wasn’t completely listening to
her surroundings, and the barista wasn’t exactly loud enough for
her to hear at her seat, but they called out a name that was
similar sounding to hers and of course she got up to go get it.
Without checking the name on the cup, she swiped it up and
returned to her chair, placing it on the adjacent table before
popping off her pumps and curling up in its cushioned comfort.

While Ty is waiting patiently for his drink, his ears and eyes
are influenced by a costumer behind him, who appears to have
some money trouble, like the cashier her face reeks of wishing
to be somewhere else or is going through some tough times right
now. He glanced at the change in his hand wondering if he needed
it more than this woman, those thoughts were pushed in the back
of his mind when the cashier lady is kind enough to let her
slide, a silver lining sprung out of this horrible atmosphere.
Ty's vanilla iced tea is finally placed on the counter prompting
a feeling of relief, he could only imagine pour the sweetened
liquid on his tongue to savor and swallow, that dream faded away
quickly as the woman took his drink and parked on a table. "!?"
a caught off guard expression emerged on his face, instinctively
he followed the thief, towering over her table, sharp eyes
glancing down on the genet mobian yet there is no sign of anger,
likely because he knew it was an accident."You have my drink.."
a calm deep voice spoke.

No sooner than when she found a comfortable position, she
recognized the tall fellow that was in line before her looming
over her seat. As if on instinct, she pulled her pencil skirt
down and her tail curled tightly around her. She would be lying
if she said his size wasn’t at least a little intimidating.
Paired with his muscled physic, the intimidation increased
twofold, if not more. Her discomfort was blatant; ears pulled
back in submission while the fur along the top of her tail
raised significantly. Kai was about to press her head into the
cushions and ignore him, but his words threw her for a loop.
“What?”
Lime eyes quickly glanced from him to the cup and back. If it
was his cup, it should have his name on it. Unfortunately, the
cup was placed on the side table in a way that made the name
impossible to see from her angle, and she wasn’t about to go
reaching for it now. Instead her embarrassment burned hot on her
cheeks as the barista called out another name.
“Kai”
She avoided eye contact with the strange man and instead, she
closed her eyes tight and focused on pleading the gods--any and
all--for a black hole to swallow her up. At least one of them
had to listen to her, right? Maybe it was to much to ask for a
black hole or a sinkhole. A bullet to the head would do fine.
Or a spontaneous myocardial infarction. A stroke that ended with
a coma? Kaibette ended up silently pleading for any harmful
event to take her away from her current predicament. The brief
begging prayer gave her the energy to twist the cup around and
read the name.
‘Ty’
It was scrawled across the side in a hasty script, and the cup
felt cold to the touch. She pushed it to the other side of the
small table, closer to the empty chair beside hers, before
mumbling an apology. As much as she wanted to grab a pillow and
cover her face with it, or leave her drink and let someone else
take it, she had to go retrieve the correct beverage. She was
apprehensive, pausing before slipping her heels back on.

Ty's standing posture didn't really change from its initial
position, because there is no reason to move without his
beverage, he idled patiently for a response, however it wasn't
quite what he expected. This woman appears to be frightened by
his presence, did he approach her too strongly? Perhaps his
words lacked any manners to ease her worry? No sound escaped his
windpipe preferring to keep his mouth sealed, both ears
flickered over the announcement of a name "Kai."
Judging by this woman's reaction and discovering the cup doesn't
match up with her order, it must be her name, he watched her
depart from her seat to retrieve her beverage, his eyes shifted
over to the empty seat, in front of the chair is his cup where
she left it. Did she want him to sit next to her? Kai could've
just given him the cup and he would've been on his merry way,
instead she apologized and left it unattended, interesting.. Ty
pulled up the chair placing his bottom on the exterior taking a
sip from the iced coffee.

Kaibette returned to her seat the same way she did before. Cup
on the table, shoes off her feet, behind in the seat and back
against the armrest. Much to her confusion, the wolf had taken
the seat next to hers. Well, not really confusion, but surprise.
Truth be told she didn’t know how to feel about it, and her
troubled disposition showed on her face. Her gaze was curious,
if a little worried. Furrowed brows and active ears were
directed at his profile as he took a sip from his drink.
She felt ashamed to admit it, but she did find him to look a bit
brutish. The scarred eye and the torn ear only clued her into
previous skirmishes, and that was just those two features alone.
Combining that with his size and, for the lack of a better word,
girth put her on edge, making her extremely cautious. So much so
that she shifted a bit, making it easier for her to leave her
chair if need be. His attire left much to be desired as well.
She excused her shallowness this once, as it was a matter of
personal safety over being nice.
For a moment green matched green as their eyes met. Although Kai
managed to play it off by shifting her attention on her cup
instead, there was still some awkwardness about her. Mainly
exemplified by her still-tinted cheeks. Among her shaky
decisions that day was the choice she made to cling to her shaky
facade. Absentmindedly, she flicked open the plastic tab on her
to-go cup, brought it to her lips, and took a sip. Kai was met
with the taste of milky matcha with a hard aftertaste of searing
hot pain. Her body acted on its own accord; attempting to spit
the liquid back into the cup through the tiny hole she drank
from. Obviously, that wasn’t possible, so it ended up spilling
down her chin, the side of the of the cup, her hand, and a bit
made its way down to stain her blazer.
Her free hand covered her mouth, wiping the liquid from her
face, as the other placed the cup back on the table. Her tongue
throbbed, numb from the scalding liquid, and her face flushed
harder than it was before. Panicked eyes bounced around the room
before resting on some photos on the wall. Unlike her gaze, her
heart and breath kept their shocking pace.

During the time of getting examined by the woman parallel to
him, Ty more or less focused on how long he can allow his lips
to be drenched in the cool creamy liquid texture to really pay
attention to her staring. The awkward wall between them is a
force proving to be hard to ignore, he could sense a hefty
amount of distance emitting from Kai due to natural
unfamiliarity towards a stranger, a lack of communication
between the two cemented this fact. Ty acknowledged her
skeptical gaze returning a look of his own, the woman apparently
caught note of his eye movement and decided to focus on her
drink, likewise he did the same.
There are many different ways to start a conversation with her
to try to weaken this awkward barrier, yet no words can come
out, his mouth refused to choose a topic. Ty glanced at Kai once
more wondering if she find this uneasy to say anything as well,
only to discover she is having trouble swallowing her beverage.
Her accident prompted the muscular mobian to reach for some
napkins to give them to Kai to clean herself. "Here.." he placed
his leftover change on the table in front of her alongside the
napkins, he returned to sipping his drink.

“Th-thanks.”
Her stutter was the least of her issues. Swiftly and silently,
she cleaned herself up. Rather than struggle with getting the
stain out of her jacket, she took it off and laid it out on her
lap, exposing her short sleeve button-up top. Her interview look
would just have to be altered slightly, though it didn’t really
matter that much in the grand scheme of things because her work
was probably going to get rejected anyway. Whether or not she
looked completely put together didn’t have any weight on the
decision to think her art is sh!tty. In fact, after this, she
considered not even showing up to have her art rejected. The
outcome would be the same either way, only not showing up would
save her the trouble of embarrassing herself for like the
sixteenth time today.
Speaking of which, she wondered if it was possible to be so
embarrassed and ashamed of herself that she couldn’t feel it at
all. The heat that seemed to burn her face cooled off to an icy
sweat that tailed down her back. It intensified when Kaibette
noticed the money beside her cup. Normally, she would have just
swiped it, but today she was putting effort into being a normal
functioning member of society so instead, she eyed it
quizzically. Her attention shifted from the change to Ty and
back several times before she spoke.
“For me?” Kai made a small gesture towards the rings.
