Love Struck

It was a day like any other in Mobotropolis, clear blue skies
and people went about their lives without pause and Sonic was
spending time with his best friend. It was strange the duo
seemed to have this ritual in which they held hands whenever
Sonya felt nervous to prevent her from having anxiety attacks.
Sonic never thought much of it, one day she grabbed his hand and
it seemed to calm her down so he figured why fight it despite
the fact it made them look like a couple. The blue hedgehog was
always one to try to bring out confidence in others so he didn't
mind doing this for the woman that had saved his life. Sonic
turned to face Sonya and the rays from the sun hit her golden
hair brilliantly causing it to glimmer as she basked in the
light. The speedster paused taking in the image of his friend
looking lovely; to him it was almost like the whole scene
happened in slow motion as he savored every moment of it.
Normally just leaving his grip loose while Sonya had a firm
grasp was the way they did things however...this time Sonic held
tightly right back.
His heart started to beat faster as he admired the way her
golden mane fell onto her shoulders complemented by that cute
little blue bow as gripped ever tighter his grip now far more
affectionate than Sonya had ever seen him be. Quickly trying to
cover up what was happening trying to play it cool he started to
whistle out loud while the two continued their stroll. Thoughts
of her by his bedside and helping her choose new dresses came
flooding into his mind causing the blue hedgehog to blush
lightly he was really closer to Sonya than a best friend should
be and this anxiety coping mechanism wasn't helping. Sonic found
himself looking down the fox's petite frame admiring everything
about her from the shape of her body to the simple yet elegant
way she worked some feminine elements into her uniform like her
white shoes that had just enough of a heel to make her seem
ladylike. After noticing the shoes he couldn't help but admire
the way they made her behind stick out when she walked so he
started to whistle even louder all the while forgetting he was
now holding her hand like he never wanted to let go.

[i] Same old routine, different day.
Their friendship always being on the closer than close level on
the scale, it was now simply natural for the two of them to link
up together to spend time with each other on a weekly to
fortnight basis, whether it was doing activities she enjoyed
like painting or craft making together, or activities that Sonic
preferred like fishing, or playing cards. Sometimes however they
would just agree to meet in the middle and hit up the local
arcade, or go see a movie which suited her fine. Wandering down
the street hand in hand with her best friend, it didn’t
feel weird or out of the ordinary although it probably should
have, given that typically best friends weren’t known for
going around hand in hand. One could say they was certain a
special case, but Sonya had long since stopped overthinking the
details. The truth of the matter was she was severely anxious
but then considering she’d spent the majority of her life
being teased, tormented, and ridiculed mainly because of the
size of her ears she had a plausible reason for being very
reluctant to go out in public without a safety measure. Sonic
was that safety measure so be it.
Besides by this point the whole hand holding thing was now more
of habit as well as a coping mechanism, so she didn’t plan
on stopping anytime soon unless Sonic expressed discomfort in
such a means, and so far they’d been steady. Turning her
head towards her blue furred friend, at around the same time he
turned to look at her, she couldn’t help the content smile
that fluttered across her snow white muzzle. Being with Sonic ..
he made it so easy, when she was with him it felt like the rest
of world was nothing more than a colourful blur, or more like
everything was spinning, while her and Sonic remained the only
two things in focus. She could be having the most awful day, and
all it took was for him to make some characteristically
egotistical comment, or joke and she would feel better, he
simply got her and got him, and that’s how they worked.
Her content smile twisting into a playful grin, upon feeling the
odd sensation of their usual hand holding ratio being altered.
Combined that with the not so casually timed whistling, and the
lovely shade of fresh crimson now seeping across his usually
tanned muzzle. It didn’t take detective level deductions
to come to the conclusion that he was clearly flustered for some
mysterious reason. Now she could have gone down the curious more
mature route, and gently quizzed him for answers on his sudden
switch of behaviour, but.. then where would be the fun in that?
Hardly able to keep the smile out of her words, she put an
abrupt end to the whistling.
“If you hold my hand any tighter I’m going to loose
all circulation you know, is this how you usually feel? Wowza ..
now I know you adore me Sonic, but it’s okay I’m not
going anywhere, although I can see why you’re
overwhelmed.. “ [Gesturing to her body with her free
hand.]
“I get it, really.” [Wink]
“Now .. you just breathe, and try and tell Aunty Sonya,
exactly WHY you’re so worked up huh? I mean putting my
beauty on the back burner for a second.”
Obviously she wasn’t the reason for his sudden stream of
flustered behaviour, but it was sure going to be laugh poking
fun at the very idea.

Sonya's confidence was refreshing for Sonic while at first he
seemed a little more pink than he was a moment ago he quickly
bounced back. "Last I check you we're the one holding my hand."
When the fennec fox gestured to her body Sonic subliminally
nodded in agreement. "Speaking of your looks, you're lucky your
easy on the eyes. It's one of the only reasons I hang out with
you, I mean I've never met a bigger pain in my ass. I mean look
at you with your golden hair, beautiful blue eyes
and...pretty...pretty face....." As he rambled on he started to
gesture towards Sonya not noticing he had worked his fingers
between hers and just went from cocky to complementing. The blue
hedgehog paused for a moment as he had just collected what had
happened. Quickly he pulled his hand away from hers and hid it
away behind his back. His ears stood on end as he gave a nervous
laugh and anxiously asked. "I don't suppose you could forget
what I just said and we pretend this didn't happen, right Sonya?
Sonya!?" He exclaimed her name panicked before trying to relax
himself by running his hands through his spines.

[i]Admittedly she was totally thrown for the path this jokey
conversation had now taken a turn down.
Sure she was used to Sonic being flirty it was a huge part of
personality after all, but this sort of talk was usually
reserved for pretty much every other female in existence that
wasn’t her. So one could understand the clear look of surprise
that splashed across her pretty features, before she recovered,
with a giggle, and a raised eye brow she didn’t know what it
was, but seeing Sonic all flustered encouraged her to behaviour
almost so uncharacteristically similar to him that it was scary.
Not to say that she didn’t possess any confidence of her own
naturally but her confidence was usually much more low key.
Head tilting, a fraction while she watched him struggle to
properly compose himself, she hook her head, her confident smile
never faltering, as she took a miniature step towards him,
wrapping the arm that he had just hastily yanked away snugly
around her waist, his fingertips resting on her slender hip
bone, she curled an arm around his waist in an innocent enough
manner. Her tone carrying an air of flirtatiousness to it,
purely for her own personal humour. “You really think I have
beautiful blue eyes? .. “ While her voice was still playful,
she added an element of softness to it, letting the fingertip on
her free hand reach under to stroke her frazzled friend, gently
under his chin, she made sure their gazes remained sealed. My my
Sonic you’re a hedgehog of so many words today.. what on earth
has gotten into you?”

With Sonya's bold actions Sonic's blush went from a flushed pink
to a brilliant shade of crimson red. Becoming quickly flustered
by his normally reserved friend it was odd being on the other
side of this act for once. Normally Sonic would charm his way
out of these situations however the woman currently wooing him
knew the hedgehog too well to fall for any of his tricks; this
made Sonic nervous as none of his smooth talk and charisma would
get the fox off his tail. Sonic felt a pleasant shiver run down
his spin when his friend placed her fingers under his chin not
allowing him to look away. With their eyes locked Sonic was
forced to look deep into the eyes he admired with the affection
clearly showing in his; because of Sonya's suddenly surge in
dominance and her knowledge of his ins and outs the love struck
hero became oddly honest with her. "The most beautiful, I've
ever seen. They are kind and compassionate eyes that I've come
to...l..really appreciate." Sonic simply shrugged as Sonya kept
their eyes locked and her hands at his side. "Maybe it's all the
hand holding or even just the fact you saved my life but you're
all my mind all the time."
After letting her know how he felt Sonic lost himself in her
eyes giving a goofy smile across his muzzle as he zoned out
letting their blue orbs meet in a dreamy daze. Normally Sonic
would have tried to pull away and take control of the situation
however Sonya holding his chin in place to observe her eyes had
broken down his barrier allowing her total control of the
situation. He went weak in the knees and his tail started to wag
like an excited puppy as he tried anything to allow him control
of the situation again. "Can I buy you dinner? He offered hoping
she'd let him go before she asserted herself ant further without
Sonic taking the lead.

[i] This was so weird being completely in control of a situation
like this, Sonya would have been lying to herself if she said
that she wasn’t enjoy this temporary shift of events. Watching
Sonics blush go from pink to crimson in matter of mere moments
it spurred her new found confidence on something fierce. That
and how this sort of flirty behaviour was coming to her with an
ease she didn’t know she possessed, normally she was the one
stuttering, stammering, and barely able to get a sentence while
Sonic was the one revelling in her awkwardness, more than happy
for the unnecessary added boost to his already giant ego.
Masking her surprise at how blunt his answer to her question
was, she took a couple of moments to saviour their unusually
intimate moment. Almost loosing herself in those aqua pools of
his she managed to mentally snap her fingers, and refocus her
attention on his response, a slow soft smile spreading across
her plump lips. “Well I appreciate your honesty .. you should be
this expressive more often.” She was half joking, after all
ordinarily he was very expressive with her, but more in a rough
and tumble sort of way rather than her being an actual member of
the female species way.
Taking note of his goofy smile, dazed expression, and the cherry
on top of the cake, the brief tail tagging she caught. She
decided to see how far this kittenish behaviour would carry her.
Now normally when he asked her if she wanted to grab dinner a
fifteen minute half serious half mock debate would break out
between them, with her arguing that he couldn’t pull the “Want
to grab dinner card?” and then whisk them off to McDonalds, and
then he would half-jokingly accuse her of being a snob and so
on. She had feeling a feeling though that this time around,
things could go differently as long as she played her cards
right. Releasing his chin, Sonya purposely hesitated in
answering the blue hogs question, studying his handsome features
with an intensity that would of flustered him outright if he
hadn’t of been a nervous wreck already. She twirled a wavy
strand of golden blonde hair around her fingertip, while she
made sure her expression remained neutral, thoughtful even,
giving the egotistical speedster the intentional illusion that
there was a possibility that he wouldn’t get the answer he
wanted to hear. Another smile slowly coming to her muzzle, she
gave him the works natural pearly whites showing and all.
“Sure, why not?”

When she said yes Sonic grabbed her hand and jumped into the air
thrusting his fist towards the heavens as if pumped for a
massive victory. The look on his face was one of excitement and
joy while Sonya closed one eye while placing her dainty fingers
over her lips as she giggled at his charming boyish antics. This
would mark the first time the blue blur and his best friend
would be holding hands as more than just friends.

When he hit the ground he placed an arm around Sonya while
fanning his other hand across the sky. "Put on your little black
dress bestie because when you ride with Sonic you can go
anywhere. I'm taking you to the fanciest digs in town! None of
that Meh Burger crap we normally do. Nothing is to good for my
bestie and if I play my cards right girlfriend huh?" He said
teasingly as he ribbed her in the side using his elbow. It's
clear Sonic was excited to show Sonya a good time but could his
promise of such a wonderful evening match up to what his big
mouth blurted out.
